So. The consensus among the people who liked Vanessa Hudgens was because she was "beautiful" and "sexy". All the comments about the other actresses say they were phenomenal in their interpretations as Mimi.

PS: Will Chase brings some great stuff to the songs, both vocally and acting-wise. Adam Pascal is a phenomenal vocalist, but there's just a bit too much... standing around when he's on stage.
These two don't have the vulnerability of Daphne and Adam, and the vulnerability of the characters is what makes Rent. The story is just flat without it.
It's something about the way she sings 1:18 - 1:32 that convinces me that her heart was frozen in that instance of her being burnt by Roger's dismissal. Renee is an excellent vocalist and actress...my goodness.
I prefer Will to Adam. Adam seem to play Roger simply as an angry, grumpy person, but Will seems to really understand Rogers conflicting emotions and plays him much less angry and incorporates all the other emotions. Of course, that's just my opinion. I don't hate Adam. He's amazing and everything, I just prefer Will. Especially in this song. And Renee is an amazing Mimi. Her and Rosario are both perfect for the role. Vanessa, however, was NOT.

In all fairness, Adam was very green when he first played Roger. He was a wannabe rock star, not an actor, whereas Will was a professional by the final performance. I think Adam improved greatly for the movie (say what you will about the movie itself). He too was vulnerable, broken but also vaguely cynical. He is the best to me :)

I mean, /seriously/ - watch Will's face from 1:45-1:51 and at 1:56. You can practically /see/ the conflicting emotions flickering across his face as he tries to decide whether or not what Mimi's saying is true. It's moving and a quality I don't see in many Rogers. It's just the sheer emotion in his performance that makes him stand out. <3 Will Chase!
