I agree with LeoGoable, two completely different shows, not really comparable, however, As different as the british sense of humour is with our taking the piss and sarcastic comments, it's only meant in fun.On the whole Brits have learnt through hardships, not to take life so seriously, we r less judgemental, more open minded,& plain silly, it's why we r a free country you cannot be controlled by or live in fear of people you don't take seriously.We owe our Humour alot, and I am Proud of it!, x

@Josingable i'm american and i fucking love graham norton!!! he's my absolute favorite host ever. i know he tried to break into america but it didn't work, however they didn't give him a real shot....meaning, he didn't get a late night show on a network. he got a cable show at an odd time. as far as ellen goes...she's very funny. this is daytime too. much funnier clips she has though then the one's displayed.

It is acceptable to be far more insulting to guests, celebrities and people in general in mainstream UK TV. This may or may not be a good thing but it does give scope for funnier gags.

Another difference is that IMHO US chat shows like to celebrate the guest whereas in the UK the primary goal is usually to be funny and the guests are just prop to achieve this. I think this is kind of embedded into our cultures.

I don't understand the point of this comparison. Ellen's and Graham's shows are two completely different things. The Ellen Show is a light hearted, daytime show predominantly aimed at older women where she'll talk about the latest adorable kid she saw on YouTube and then cry about a homeless puppy. Whereas the Graham Norton Show is late night, aimed at younger people and students and is supposed to be racy and raucous.

ellen's awesome, but graham's setup on his show, where allt the celebrities interact for half an hour (rather than one celebrity for just 5 minutes) is MUCH better, so i always end up enjoying the gh show more.

Both are fantastic. The clips of Ellen shown here are not good, but normally her show is wonderful. Her humor is quieter, though. I adore both of them. As an American I wish Norton was better known in America.

How can you compare a political discussion about gay marriage with a chat about cats with wigs?? It's obvious that the latter would generate more laughs. Craig Ferguson would make a better/fairer comparison.

You can get away with saying things like "cock" and giving the finger on camera on Norton's show whereas in America, you'd immediately get bleeped/pixelated. Humour is also different between the two cultures (Brit style tends to be more subtle, dry wit; America is more obvious slapstick).

Both are comedians with a certain comedy niche.Ellen is more of a clean,family humor comic, whereas Graham is more saucy and for adults.I prefer Graham,because I enjoy British humor. At Ellen's show,I find myself laughing more at guests than her.

Graham norton is having a show in the Uk, and in the uk you have more freedom to be naughty than in the usa :) that is why so many american celebs love to join that show, they get to be more naughty there than in a show back home :)
