  • Barry McGuire actually sang the lead on this "hit" version and his vocal was overdubbed by the rest of the group. In the first line, "All the leaves are brown" you can hear a reverb...that is Barry's vocal still on one channel and overdubbed by the voice of John Phillips.

  • Thanks for putting this gem up. It makes one wonder what on earth "they" thinking by destroying the master tapes. Many artists have fallen victim to this with what I think are disappointing results. Shame on them all!

Nice to hear this the way it was intended to be heard.

  • SWEET! Love the pops and crackles!

  • this is sooo cool. God, what a piece of history.

  • Reminds me of EMI destroying the Ringo drums version of Love Me Do.

  • Mono has become my favorite way of listening to music. I've collected for 40 years. Thank you for posting your records.

  • Hello friend , it is absurd to know that a record be destroyed by a single master . I have the second LP and EP from 1966 , one American and one Brazilian and the EP . The LP and EP from my country (Brazil ) I know it's Mono, but the American is my question , it marks : D50006 . This means that it is mono or stereo ?

  • Yes - It's true - ABC Dunhill not only destroyed the mono master, but the original multitrack recording as well. All that is now left is the stereo mix down and that is it.

Therefore, no other mixes can be made as the master tapes are gone. They did this to save space.

I believe the LP number is mono. If stereo, it would be either DS50006, or D50006S.

  • @WABCRADIO77 Sundazed reissued the first M&P album last year on CD and LP, in glorious MONO. A 15ips mono EQ tape dub was located in the UK.

  • Great song, great to hear it in mono.

  • tjsmith51:i 100% agree with you on today's so-called pop music.that's why i like this type of music.

  • Always loved this song. I may be 20, but this music is better than a lot of crap today.

  • Their debut hit, peaked at #4 the week ending March 12, 1966.

  • One of the greats
