  • Quit shit talk Roddick. he would have way more Majors if Federer wasn't there, thus I think if anyone had the right to hate Federer, it would be Roddick, as Federer ruined almost every chance Roddick had of winning a major...

  • He is so sexy. He may not have the best backhand but, he definitely has the best ass

  • HI , Im Andy and i approve of my sweat going further than the ball.

  • His backhand is AWESOME, so is his ass!

  • Dudeck who the fuck are you to criticism andy roddick.....don`t say you don`t want his many or his glory....your just an idiot...who criticism a very good tenis player..... so what if roddick is in top 10 with the service only...

  • Many people have ugly techniques, its normal even i dont have good or beautiful technique. but those pro have good clean hits and have good technique, with good game takticks and stragety. In my oppinion Roddicks techniques are ugly but he follows the the instructions and manage to generate power. I think Federer has all the techniques but not the best in every shot. What do you guys think?

  • Dick's backhand is one of the fugliest shots of all the guys in the top 100.

  • @JamesYakov1990 and how long has he been in the top 10 now?.... OK so stfu

  • ok, so hes not #1 any more so he sucks??? get a life people. you wish you can get in top 100.

  • a very flat backhand. part of the reason he tends to dump them in the net when he tightens up. he has managed to add more spin to it lately though which is one of the reasons he regained his form last year.

  • People need to STOP giving Andy such a hard time. Of course he gets raped by Fed (not in their last meeting) but EVERYBODY does. Andy Roddick is a great player who has stayed in either what top 10 or top 5 for a good 6 years which is in itself a statement of what a committed good player he is. He's a great guy who (if not for Rog) would have a nice handful of slams by now.

  • nice video x-X!

  • anyone arguing about how good Roddick is just watch this year's wimbledon final

  • roddick gets it in the butt.

  • im sorry. hes one of my fave player but he cant run. he's flat footed. sure he can run fast but its not comfortable for him running that fast. his groundstokes are good though.

  • westwern

  • what the hell is with dudekc88? Is he that retarted? I have a fukin vid of Roddick and Federer on WImbledon and Roddick's forehands were hella fast and hard. He was even a good volleyer. If he's not so dumb he should also know that not even half of the game depends and the serveand even if it does, it takes a hell yea lot of practice and talent to get that kind of serve. Looks like dudekc88 needs to stop BSing

  • dudekc is kind of dumb. Roddick is a good player and has belonged n the top 10 for the past 6 years. Former #1 players, like Roddick, hav made the most of their careers with what they hav.. Roddick happens to have the best serve in the game, therefore he will post good results, US Win, 2 Wimbledon Finals, 27 ATP titles. If your gonna make the arguement that he sucks because he loses to guys like Nadal and Federer than who on the tour is good, every1 loses them. Roddick FTW. Dudekc is kinda dumb.

  • what grip does he use for his right hand??

  • the old 2 hander :P haha i dont know

  • It looks like an eastern or a weak continental. Connors coached him for a bit and Connors had a double eastern backhand.

  • So, I've read the past two pages of comments and dudekc you seem to not have an ounce of common sense or intelligence. It's damn near foolish for you to say Roddick sucks as a player. You should just give up, apologize to Nico, and then beg for forgiveness. If I had to guess your probally just a 12 y.o. trying to start a fight via youtube.

  • for a person with probably ''THE'' fasted serve in tennis throughout history, his groundstrokes are extremely poor, produces no fucking power, his backhand blows dick his forehand sucks, his slices are pretty good, therefore he will never be able to beat the likes of federer with only 2 main weapons

  • he use to be able to rip his forehand like nothing.

  • Lawl, his forehand was nothing thats why he ripps nothing now.

you can also replay this video and tell he cant strike the ball for shit ,he hit that at the very side bottom of his racquet.epic fail in my eyes.the only reason why he is even in the top 10 consistently is his serve, without it,he'd be unknown.

  • that's not true. the serve helps a lot, but with only a serve you wont make top 10. you probably wont even make top 20.

  • Nadals serve is not very consistent although it has through improved throughout the years ,it is still not as strong as the other top 10 players, how come he is world number 1 with a weak serve?

  • The serve helps a lot, but with ONLY a serve you will not make top 10.

and Nadal has a lefty serve, which spirals away from a righty's backhand, so his serve doesn't need to be strong or fast like roddicks, just accurate and precise

  • roddick only HAS a serve, why is he in top 10 then?

  • Which is why i said "that's not true" after you said he only had a serve.

  • k,what ''weapons'' does he have other then the serve?

  • give this guy a break man, there is a good reason why hes top 20 player in the circuit.

  • no why should i?what reason?there is no reason why he is top 20,the ONLY REASON is his serving will not be broken in matchs and in most cases,it will become a tiebreak,we all know he is not gonna lose one point on his serve unless he is in a rally, when other people fuck up gives him a point therefore he breaks and wins the game, the only reason ,otherwise he sucks big dick

  • hes in top 20 so if he sucks what about those players from rank 21 onwards? they suck huge cocks ? he may be inferior compare to big gun such as federal or nadal but still tho you have to give this guy some credit for trying his best. the major factor in difference among those players are their mental fitness. the drills and technic they've being trainned up with are almost identical and similar. plus he won quite a few majors so you should give hime some respect

  • its *federer*L2:SPELL,lol what titles,he has only won 1 grand slam, the others are tournaments where shitty players enter and federer, nadal, safinnalbadian and all those dont participate in it ok.you dont know shit stfu .also about their training drills,so what if their similar, will that improve roddicks ground strokes?um no ,mental fitness will not improve his strokes either so stfu, stop making excuses for your hero who got nothin but a serve

  • i'm a tennis coach and i've been playing in ATP tour 5 years ago i had to stop due to injury. i dont like the way you said about roddick to me that is very disrespectful. you are probably just jealous cus you are not even a fraction as good as he is. u have no idea how hard and how much time it takes for a player to reach to that level so instead you talk shit about him, Andy Roddick might not be as good as federal but he certainly is a good player but needs alot of improvment

  • how many times do i have to tell you,its *federer* if you've been on the atp tour for 5 years you'd know how to spell the guy whose ruled the rankings for years.you dont know anything stop bsing nub

  • so are you saying that any one whos good at spelling are equally good in tennis too? that doesnt make sense. btw why do i give a faq for such a small things as mispelling? english is not my mother language and who really gives a shit as long as we all know who i was talking about, i'm entitle for my speech and speaks anyway i like it, is it wat the democracy is all about?

  • you're the one who dont know shit by calling ppl noob and made bs statement such as roddick sucks. again that doesnt make sense. if you are so rightuous then can you explain how the faq on earth he made him way to the TOP 10 tennis player in the world? now stfu and go and do some research and tell me that roddick sucks

  • k what are you?

whats your name?lol mr atp tour for 5 years complete bs.

  • lol, first u cant talk shit knowing that u already lost the argument and still trying endless to come back like this, god i pitty u fool. second why should i have to reveal my name on youtube?

  • lol cause your a fucking bullshit artit who know jackshit about tennis.you saying you were an atp player ,and yet you know nothin about the game,i lost the arguement how?when you say federer is a whole lot different to federAL ''generAL'some who can not even sound out a great players name probably never heard of his damn name but a mere guess to troll other peoples comments.i can say whatever the fuck i want to,you are completely wrong.

  • '' you know how hard to play tennis is'' yes it is physically demanding but ..his ground strokes are not powerful even fucking djokovic groundstrokes can penetrate the court easily.yes he has toughened up his body and chasing down balls.but wuth nadal and him nadal will keep return em back while hitting a winner out of nowhere, can roddick do that?uh no?

  • @dudekc88 first of all, cursing DO NOT make your statement any accurate at all. Second, you probably were a mass of complexes when you were growing up,cuz thats the only way to "understand" your comments.Really sad

  • rofl

everyone this lil lieing faggot claims hes been playing the atp tour for 5 years or really?Hey steve i dont recall a tennis player called steve actually and your only 23 ..23-5 =18?so and you never said when you quit so im making an assumption that you played between 15-20?oo fag much and i dont think any coach would coach at 23..

  • and are u so dumb enough to believe the name and age in my profolio is acutally real? u moron or something? why would i put my real name and age on youtube? and u do realise that there are alot of talent young player in atp/wta as early as age 13? and you dont think any tennis player would coach at 23... lol where do u live? on mars ? looks like who's the one dont know hack shit about tennis?

  • look at u ..u know nothin now u bs even more ..

  • lol you are such a lil stubbern bitch cant accpet the fact that you've already lost the argument. you mention something like roddick sucks, and then i argue if you think he sucks how on earth he made it all the way to top 10 and i asked an explaination from you and all you do just whine and bitch about his poor forehand and serves, why the fuck are u comparing him to nadal, federal and now djokovic. we've already know the outcome

  • bro just stfu, you know nothing about tennis ok?just quit immature scrub.i just /sigh at scrubs ike you. you asked for an explaination why he is in top 10?um what do you think?HIS SERVE U FUCKTARD?i wasnt whining about his groundstrokes im just stating the facts in how his groundstrokes suck.if he aint hitting aces or getting cheap returns hes done for.yes there is no comparison between top feder''al'' LOL because he just cant compete with him.

  • lol you calling me immature? look at the statement and tell me where u spot immature traits. you made a big mistake by saying roddick sucks and didnt know there are young players in the professional circuits as early as 13, then i ask you a question and u reply "his serve" ? duh.....??? is that all you know about him? you must be very shallow, becuse it takes more than just good serves to achieve to where he is and trash like you dont know how to respect and appriciate them. shame on u mate

  • @dudekc88 Ivo Karlovic serves more aces than Roddick no? I don't see him the top 10. Taylor Dent, Sam Querrey, Mardy Fish. The list goes on. You are a fucking retard. Roddick has one of the best forehands on tour.

  • @dudekc88

Roddick is an amazing Tennis player, he has one of the best backhands in the sport, strong forehand, is actually one of the fastest players ( Nadal is fastest?) and on top of that is his serve

Now please tell what the fuck is a cheap return? ARE you that retarded?

If the man wins a point on the opponents serve, you think thats a cheap return yet you never take into consideration Andy is one of the best in the world ( and has been the best a while ago)

  • and i dont give a shit about federer, i can call him anyway i like "federal". it's like calling steven to steveo or steve, do u go up to the person who's calling "steveo" and judge their intellectual ability by it? i doubt not? so why are u being such a dick? does your mum teach you how to judge ppl like? she did a real good job!

  • Comment removed

  • @dudekc88 then how'd he get number one?? I can't trust someone who can't get their grammar right, fastest*

  • el problema de roddick es no suele meter el hombre hombre para pegarle con todo el cuerpo, el suelo pegarle solo con el brazo , debe meter el hombro adentro y pegarle con el pie de apoyo mas frontal al court no de modo lateral

  • point of contact should be a little more out in front for him....his production of the shot is what causes him to fall back almost every time he hits it....this is obviously from lack of confidence with it, but it has seriously gotten so much better, thanks to Connors (whose go-to shot was obviously the backhand)

  • The big problem with his backhand is that his arms and especially his elbows are so straight and extended before contact, that it is too much whrist action and that's why it lacks power. I mean it really lacks power, he can get it pretty deep and hit an ok shot with it, but he cannot generate the pace most pro backhands can.

  • it's not the wrist action.....wrist action gives you more of everything in tennis, including power.

That's why all those players have had wrist injuries....trying to do too much with the wrists because they know what it can produce.

As you can see from this video, he's not really using his wrists at all, to be honest. More wrist would help his backhand, as well as bending those arms more.

look at Hewitt's backhand. he hits it the same way, but he uses more wrist than Roddick does.

  • I actually really like Roddick's backhand. I love the way he readies it so early and think it's a very good-looking shot. It's certainly more reliable now than in the past.

  • it is....but he needs more. It needs to become a weapon. He hits like 5 BH winners per tournament. That's not enough against the top players. You can't hide a weakness in men's tennis as much as you can in women's

  • Sorry, you mean it's a good-looking shot or it's more reliable? :)

  • I meant that it's a better looking shot than it used to be, but he needs much more from it. It needs to become a weapon to beat the players ranked above him more consistently. Luckily for him, he's been able to hang around the top 5 or 6 without it.

  • if you guys think your so pro and criticize roddick, why don't you vs him yourself

  • Andy's backhand is vulnerable but it's certainly not terrible.

Now, I know most fans love 1h backhand over 2h anyday just because it looks more beautiful supposedly but one isn't necessarily superior to another.

I recommend any beginner to start out with 2h first. And from there, decide to switch to 1h or keep the 2h. Don't start out with 1h thinking it is easy. It's much harder to control and takes much more practice than 2h.

  • I think roddick has an ok backhand, don´t understand all the criticism really,I just tend to think he lacks some power on it, because it´s not common to see many winner´s off his backhand, although at this years us open(08),I thought he was hitting it better than his forehand..

  • Never noticed how high up his hands were on the grip

  • I would say its not a bad backhand rather its not a weapon, I think its a shame at the lack of improvement he has made on his backhand, yes he would beat me 6-0 and has a better backhand then me so i will save you guys posting a comment.

  • why dont u spend less time talking shit and post a video of hows its really done then?

  • btw you dont have to trust me, watch the other players on the tour, to a man they all know to just hit to his backhand and for roddicks part he spends his time trying to step around the ball to hit a forehand. He will run outside the doubles line frequently.

  • what did I miss ?!?!? Roddicks backhand has got to be the worst of any player ever considered in the top 50.You can clearly see on this video that he hardley pull the racket back even when he has lots of time and that he uses the non-dominant hand to generate the little power he has with this stroke. The way he addresses the ball is the most akward thing I have ever seen. I saw him live and he looks even worse at court level, I was shocked to see a professional that had such a bad ground stroke.

  • There's nothing wrong with generating power from your non-dominant hand. Most pros today do it like that. Actually, Agassi is the only person that comes to mind right now with a good 2 hander who didn't generate power from his non dominant hand.

  • solid backhand, its gotten better over the years.

  • roddick is using the backhand slice a lot more than his 2 handed backhand

  • Roddick will be most of the time incapable of hitting down the line shots or short cross court shots with the technique that he has... His backhand is consistent but lacks of technique compared to some real nice two handed backhands like Nalbandian, Safin or Davidenko who just can do whatever they want with that shot...

  • you happen to be wrong. if you watched roddick play you will see that he has a variety of backhand shots.

  • Wow, that sweat going after the ball is COOL!

  • terrible technique, and not a good end result. I give you exhibit A for the explanation of Roddick's lack of slam trophies.

  • not really... look at nalbandian... he has an amazing backhand... an amazing game all around but roddick has a slam and he has none

  • true, but i don't think you can say that nalbandian's backhand is anywhere near the weapon that Roddick's serve is, which is how he won that one slam. To be dominant every shot has to be solid, and able to produce winners.

  • why do ppl like bomb on roddick. he aint in the top 10 for no reason..

  • Obviously he's a great player, mostly due to his amazing serve. He's never going to be consistenly in the same conversation as the big three because they can hurt opponents with all of their shots.

  • i totally agree with you. i doubt he'll make the the top 3 with federer nadal and djocovic up there.. but keeping a consistent ranking of 6? is it.. should be given much more credit than hes being given.

not just you but the majority of people bomb on roddick and dont even realize how good he is in the first place. he should be given the proper credit than wat has been said about him is all im saying :]

  • not to argue with anybody here, since we all have our own opinions, but i agree that roddick's backhand probably isn't the best to learn from. it still does good for him, and it's not a bad shot that he has, but i wouldn't personally call it his best shot or the best backhand in tennis by far.

  • he doesn´t hit it like a david nalbandian, but it´s ok..

  • u r of course better than roddick^^

  • I´m not critizing,on the contrary,I think all this criticism on andy´s backhand is bullshit,I don´t understand it quite frankly..andy´s one of my favorite player´s..

  • His serve is definitely great, but it disappoints me when he doesn't capitalize on points on serve sometimes. He doesn't take advantage of his offensive position sometimes and gives it away to go back to nuetral when he could keep his opponent on defense. This is especially true when he's up against other top ten players. His groudstrokes become very predictable, very "one-dimentional" as commentators would put it. His backhand is a weakness in that he doesn't have good footwork on that side.

  • A lot of times, he also doesn't select good shots for his backhand side. Very often, he is pulled veeery wide off the court on his backhand side because he insists on hitting it back with two hands. Well, predictably, he loses balance and weight continues to transfer outwards. He loses court position. Lastly, his opponent is set up for an easy winner if he reaches the ball.

  • what do you mean exactly when you say he doesn´t have good footwork?

  • Not sure what he means, but I have noticed that Andy tends to shift his weight on his right foot when he hits the backhand, especially when pressured. So whenever he's on the run, he loses balance and doesn't recover as quickly as some other guys (ie Rafa), and gets pulled out of position fairly easily. Federer loves using this strategy to come in on it.

  • im sure his footwork fundamentals are correct, after being coaches by various people, it´s not possible that he doesn´t do things the corret way.

  • It's not that he doesn't do it correctly. It's just that bad habits are hard to break, especially under pressure.

  • If only Roddick was taught proper form for back and forehand, he would be unbeatable.

  • looks so unatural lol

  • ugly!

  • His backhand is not one you should learn from.

    Not proper form at all.

  • Better form then yours thats for sure.

  • i tried his grip and it works for me..it helps me stroke better

  • why do you even bother posting Roddick's backhand, seriously

  • Because txchou posts everyone's slow motion shots so that we, the viewers, can see how each and every player hits. You are asking why bother posting Roddick's backhand, yet here you are watching the video. Roddick is still a pro, Grand Slam champion, and former world number one, and you are not even a good junior player, so obviously you must give every professional all the respect, even if he is ranked 9999, because a professional tennis player is still a professional.

  • because Andy Roddick is a great player and has a backhand that puts yours to shame

  • it´s great to see the pros do their movements in slow motion, to learn the proper mechanics of strokes..

  • What a nice shot. We can actually see the sweat going off his shirt. Amasing!

  • unless you can do it better then shut up

  • connor´s helped andy´s backhand a ``ton´´ acording to andy..

  • theoquah, yet strangely he just the Dubai title with that backhand, beating two players, Nadal and Djokovic, who have backhands that are considered very good. Just don't talk.

  • Copy his serve, copy is good attitude. but don't try to copy his backhand or forehand... there are players out there with much superior backhand and forehand technique.

  • I think it's a little easier to hit a controlled two-hander, being a person who continuously experiments with both lol...when my one handed backhand is on, I can actually hit it alot harder than my two-hander....the other arm being on the racket automatically forces the dominant hand to lose some acceleration, because of the act of trying to get TWO hands to do a driving force simultaneously...just look at the stats of the hardest hit backhands on the men's side...the harder ones are one-handed

  • I'll have to disagree with your analysis QuadThreat. It sounds like YOUR one-handed backhand is a better shot than your 2-hander so you hit better shots with it. Your strength on a 2 hander comes from the non-dominant arm (arm closer to the throat of the racket). Most people simply don't develop that arm or train it to hit through the shot. The best 2 handers in the world with some serious heat are Nadal, Djokovic and previously Agassi. Women's side, Davenport, both Williams sisters.

  • yes they are better.....but look at Justine, Blake, and Federer's backhands....their hardest backhands have much more heat.....I'll agree that is is HARDER to get that acceleration because it's harder to control it, but if you can figure out how to control it, you will always be able to generate more power with one dominant arm than trying to get two arms to move simultaneously...this is so scientific lol

  • SUCH an improved shot from him

    <3

  • trevorwinton:

first of all there is no better backhand...

second. with a two handed backhand is easier to generate pace-return serve-to do sharp angles to hit on the rise-passing shots and defense

  • Deciding to do the two hand or one hand is what YOU PREFER. There is no better backhand.

  • Thanks for this video i was looking for his backhand.

I think he has a really nice backhand.

  • oh and they are simpler to use and execute;2 handed have a lot of grips and this and that,1 handed is better

  • i wouldnt necessarily say a one handed is better. a 2 hander is easier to generate pace from, thats why the women use it. its also a more consistent stroke for the less talented than pro induviduals. i used to hit a one hander and switched. i now average 20kph more on my backhand.

  • haha what are you guys going on about?anyways i say two-handed backhands are not that good,i preffer one-handed;you have more reach, angles and come on they look more elegant and a thousand times better than two handed

  • Well its just like you said ... but ... if you give much spin to the backhand even with a doublehanded backhand you can make incredible angles ... and the double handed is also elegant , (the whole sport is) but its a matter of style

  • yea your argument completely convinces me...

    you douche bag

  • poulam!!!!!! haha ur joinin these hilarious conversations too!

  • yourmotherisfat127 = retard crying...give him a break guys

  • yourmotherisfat127, sorry if I annoyed you. Just please stop leaving comments to bash roddick's backhand. That's all I am asking. Sound good?

  • I dont really like andys backhand. But hes improved it a lot, and if he uses it correctly, he could be pretty hard to beat.

  • he has an ok backhand if your not a pro then you probably can't return it but pros can

  • yeah, thats why you are in the top 10

  • yourmotherisfat127, your never going to join the ATP. If Roddick had a backhand like yours, he wouldn't have a ranking.

  • I've been playing tennis for 12 years, you fucking dumbass. Stop trying to act so tough, dipshit!

  • why did you write a whole comment about stuff not making sense

  • son can i have your junior ranking then XD?

  • please do. that kid is a fucking dickhead

  • He's also a fucking retard

  • I'll stop talking if stop talking. Deal?

  • ...

  • someone with a temper like you would never be in atp loser. Your probably some 17 year old whos overweight sitting on his couch on a laptop eating potato chips being a cyber bully because in reality your just a nerd

  • yourmotherisfat127 u can take ur 2 pound brain and stick up your ass

  • It's fun making fun of yourmotherisfat127. Me & a friend were just laughing here reading his comments; you can almost imagine his face getting red screaming at his computer. Loosers are fun. What a retard. Go get 'im kai!

  • compared to other ATP pros, Roddick's BH is kinda mediocre. compared to 99% of the tennis-playing population though, it's amazing.

  • The only flaw I see in Andy's backhand is that he does not use his whole body. Watch his hips, no rotation. But somehow he makes it work.

  • he has a great backhand, it's just not as good as others in the top ten, eg federer, gasquet and nadal

  • I'm not saying his backhand is spectacular though. By PRO standars, it is a bit lacking and is definitely the weak part of his game. It's still incredible though. All pros are incredible.

  • Brian, please don't give advice when you don't know what you're talking about. There are great backhands that are hit both ways.

Roddick was number 1 in the world, was ranked number one in the nation as a junior, and has consistantly been a top ranked player. There is NO way his backhand is "shit". Just remember that all those "amazing" backhands you've seen at local tournaments and college tennis..those guys would get SMOKED by Roddick.

  • That advice came from Andre Agassi when he was commentating Roddick's match against Federer in the US Open this year. He said the same thing about Roddick's backhand.

  • If Roddick's backhand is shit, than I don't even have an adjective to describe your backhand. Roddick's backhand would smoke you, he's a pro, you dumbass!

  • me too

  • It's not shit, it's just nothing special. His problem is that he has a weak right grip, so he hits his backhand with his left hand. You're supposed to hit your backhand with your right hand. And his arms are too stiff.

  • no your right hand guides the racquet and the left powers it.

  • stop kidding IT looks shit but when u play with him i doubt u can even hav the power to return one properly

  • i bet i could

  • lol i would say courier.

  • it suited his game. 4 grand slams and got to the final of all 4. contending with edberg, agassi and sampras... and he didn't without a roddick serve (but i suppose courier didn't have to play federer)

  • whose backhand is worse? courier's or roddick's

  • that's tough, a year ago i would've said roddick's was worse but he did improve on variety and placement a little, but courier could get away with his backhand considering he was a 90's player. they didn't hit the ball as hard back then.
