Although not a farmer, I lived in farm country a good portion of my life. Crop loss may not seem a big deal to most people, but it is to the farmer. The corn that was destroyed cannot be eaten or sold, and it may have been too late in the season to replant that year. In the U.S. farmers often take out loans for equipment, etc., with their projected crop income as collateral. As expensive as it might have been to repair or replace the pivot, it's possible the lost corn cost this farmer even more.
@MegaGoofygoobers probably not, we get alot of tornados, big ones too, but luckily for us, so much of our country is so sparsely populated, most do no significant damage or are unnoticed
@frosty956 yeah, i know. Tornadoes are not the worst natural disaster. Hurricanes are worse because, not that they are stronger winds(cause they don't) but like you said, tornadoes hit little or no populated areas. Hurricanes, on the other hand, are much bigger and hit areas that are heavy populated.
@azmanabdula dude its a funnel cloud its a tornado australia gets 30 tornados a year but jsut dont get recorded that includes in willy willy's dust tornados and water spouts as well as land tornado;s
@papagorgio23 Yeah. Its bearly an EF1 rope tornado...there was a decent EF2 wedge that came through lennox head a gew weeks ago and then another small EF1 rope hit sydney.
Thanks for letting me know who filmed that. I've had to many close calls with them but have never seen one. I've had them come as close to a mile from where I live. That one hit at night. So they actually make me very nervous even tho I would love to see one in person.
HAHA this video cracks me up - "my corrrrn!!". I'm in Australia and love tornadoes. It's rare to get footage of Aussie tornadoes to begin with, since they're so uncommon and probably occur in remote areas. A lot of people aren't aware of the potential dangerousness of tornadoes, which is probably why they stayed and filmed it. Very lucky indeed, but an amazing capture!
Who posted this? I have to say to whoever it was that you were lucky that tornado broke up before it got to your house. But, after living in Tornado Alley in Texas for most of my life what you did was very dangerous. Especially with it coming at you like that. You were very lucky.
The Gallo family filmed this video (they didn't post it here on YouTube). Most Aussies would be unaware of the risk of being so close to a tornado - would have added a bit of excitement to the day lol. We rarely get them here, and the fact it was caught on film like this (in fact, two different people caught this tornado on film) is amazing in itself.
@areyousatisfied Actually Australia gets the most tornadoes per year after the United States. They are FAR more common than the public imagine. Look at the Bureau of Meteorology's website, and you'll find numerous example of serious tornadoes which have occurred here. To say they are "extremely rare" is so far from the truth it's not funny.
@NASCreations Ok, well maybe I should rephrase - "extremely rare in the public eye". I did actually read a book which suggested that Australian tornadic activity could rival that of the United States, but the fact is, nobody ever sees them because they mostly occur in isolated regions and no-one ever sees them. Which is why I said that tornadoes in Australia are largely underestimated by the public.
@areyousatisfied Yes, rare in the public eye, certainly. The media have a lot to answer for, especially since they often call genuine tornadoes "mini-tornadoes" implying they are less dangerous, when they can still injure and kill.
@NASCreations That's one of my pet-hates, actually, that the media call them "mini-tornadoes". There is no such thing. It's either a tornado or it isn't.
@areyousatisfied Same here. My brain nearly explodes every time I hear on the news about a "mini tornado" that struck such-and-such a place. A lot of the time what they are describing is a microburst, but sometimes they still call genuine tornadoes "mini tornadoes"!!!
@dx4lyf1 Australia has more tornadoes than any other country in the world, after the United States. I am so sick of the myth that Australia "doesn't get tornadoes" or "they're extremely rare". They are NOT that rare in more inland regions. Go to the Bureau of Meteorology's website and enlighten yourself about the abundance of tornadoes in this country.
Whoa, give them a break lol. They probably didn't even realise the dangerousness of the thing - tornadoes are extremely rare in Australia, which means people don't realise the risk involved. It would have been pretty exciting for them - it's not everyday a tornado visits a farm in Australia, unlike in America.
Can you post the video or show how the place looks like after that tornado/twister? I just saw it in the news and they say it left a 5 meter "path" ...
