I'm okay at sliding into boost grabs, but I absolutely cannot maintain my forward momentum like you do here (I end up boost grabbing forward much slower than my initial jump speed).
Am I just boost grabbing too early into the jump, or what?
@hbnsckl It's very time specific. Your first on (if I recall correctly) can be as fast as you want it to be but thereafter you'll need to get a nice steady pace going. I can't remember the exact frame information (it should be floating around on the TAS site though) but I THINK it was no more than 2-3 per second otherwise you lose speed or height ... or both.
I know it isn't overly helpful, but I hope it at least gives you some direction.
Could you explain me please how is that you don't lose the horizontal momentum? I tried this and i was going slower and slower each time i did this. I got 10.xx, way higher than your record xP
I've been a big fan of Mischief Makers, and even though I've done plenty of time-attacking, I prefer to keep it in one series...
Nontheless this is amaging stuff. I also find the up-boost/grab... that prevents you from slowing horizontally? That's insane, if I'm reading this right.
No kidding. I just tried a few hours ago and couldn't replicate the momentum...
But thanks to you and that trick, I got to S it the normal way, only using it for a slight amount more distance so I could make some clean slide jumps.
That FAQ is pretty old... he did give me some ideas on strats for some of the levels a while ago... but I think most of them have been revised and the FAQ is fairly obsolete... should I find the ambition, I'll likely write a new one with all my strats in it.... don't hold your breath though :P
Do you have to use upC to boost or can you use up on the D pad? Is it necessary to maintain holding diagonal up to do this (so then it must be boosted with upC)?
I hold diagonal up but once you get going, I don't think you have to... just feels comfortable for me. You don't NEED to use the C buttons either, but if you can do it with the D pad, my hat goes off to you... you'd have to have some mighty fast fingers to pull it off consistantly.
If you do it quick enough, it wont activate leftC. Its because you cant do any other boosting until after a certain amount of time passes so the leftC shouldn't bother you too often. I might left boost 1/100 times if I'm going a long distance (like in this video)

Its hard to keep the momentum though... It feels good when you nail it at least :P

6.63 actually >_>
I've gotten 6.62 on this level recently and while it doesn't seem like much of an improvement, it really was hard to achieve.

Oh wow, awesome time! It took me a long LONG time to finally break 7 seconds.

It's called a boost grab. To do it like in this video...
1. Slide Jump
2. Boost up at the peak of the jump
3. Press the Grab button
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 as needed
The timing is a little odd but for beginners, I recommend simply sliding your thumb from up C to B for steps 2 and 3... hope that helps

Hmm, okay I'll keep that in mind.
I absolutely adored this game when it first came out and every now and then when I watch your videos my love gets rekindled.
I think I'm due to work on my S Ranks again, your videos have helped immensely, thanks for the devotion to making all of these!

Thanks, and it wasn't a problem... just doing what I loved :P

sorry, halfcomment. Its not up+B it's not right-C it's not up -blatantly as that slows you down- so... how?
gildasmagnus 5 years ago
How do you do that upthrust? Its not up+, it's not
gildasmagnus 5 years ago
slide jump then hold diagonal up on dpad... then quickly slide your thumb from upC to B repeatedly
jVeysey 4 years ago
How do you slide your thumb between those two buttons without hitting left C in the process? Do you need to hit Up C and B repeatedly?
