Zal has his guitar tuned VERY LOW: One more step down & they'd be too loose to play! What a great effect, an integral part of why this tune is so cool, & one of many examples of why Zal's an all-tine great.
RE: The lyrics iste at the top: Sorry to nit-pick: ..."... doctor came to see was I dyin' ..." ... "8-foot cowboy with a headache.." I think the rest is right.
@tbirdtim The Spoonful were closer to being the US Beatles than any other band at the time, (perhaps the Young Rascals a close second). Everyone was "inspired" by them.
This is a great song, and great job on the slide show, Ron. Our good friend, bze2nlz4 (Chris) shared this with me yesterday, and I'll tell ya what. You both have great taste in music. You can tell her I said that, if you want. I especially like the part at 2:14 where Dagwood is holding a big sandwich. One of my favorite comic strips growing up. Have a Great Day, Ron!
@dharmaseed- I included it because that album consists of jug band music. John started early in his career with jug band music. After the Lovin' Spoonful he has returned to his roots of jug band music! Happy New Year, Ron
Great music! John Sebastian performed this at his 'unplugged' concert in Illinois last year. Many other 'Spoonful' songs had this same jug band influence :)
@SuperSunshine1964 There is a picture someplace of john sebastian and brian wilson discussing jug band surf music I think it was in a book called the dumb angel gazette
Nice Yakety Throw-up Guitar on this one!

Gimme Three Steps, Mister, Gimme Three Steps... Sounds like someone was "inspired" by the Lovin' Spoonful.
