I don't know much about the materials used to create various monuments or the cost for such materials, but (even with keeping in mind the cost of materials has grown considerably over time) it seems that the cost of MLK's memorial seems quite significant when compared with others on the mall, AND appears quite insignificantly designed (if you will). Although the space it occupies seems great, I am quite surprised that it is priced higher than the Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson Memorials.

First, MLK is unquestionably worthy of this honor. A martyr, a Christian, a champion of human rights, a proponent of non-violence; a virtual modern saint.
Having said that, the monument is an embarrassing half- complete lump of rock that the ancient Greeks and Romans would have cut into blocks for building material. What lazy, half-assed sculptor is responsible for this lump of shit? He should be confined with his work until he completes it.
Get over it people! What does it matter where or who made it!? The meaning and the power behind it is still the same. Don't let something as petty as "an asain (sounds like racism to me) did it." This man inspired the world. I'm honored that his vision and his message spread around the world. Don't let this divide us. He wouldn't want that.

I don't know much about the materials used to create various monuments or the cost for such materials, but (even with keeping in mind the cost of materials has grown considerably over time) it seems that the cost of MLK's memorial seems quite significant when compared with others on the mall, AND appears quite insignificantly designed (if you will). Although the space it occupies seems great, I am quite surprised that it is priced higher than the Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson Memorials.

I'm an African American male and a huge believer of Dr. MLK's philosophies, but I think he is probably looking down at this very moment unimpressed. At $120m you could have given 500 black kids full 4 year scholarships or even built 10 community centers in the countries highest crime areas. With all the schools, libraries, streets, postages and even a holiday, King will never be forgotten. Too many black kids are gunned down to spend money on such nonsense. This wont get us to the mountain tops.

First, MLK is unquestionably worthy of this honor. A martyr, a Christian, a champion of human rights, a proponent of non-violence; a virtual modern saint.
Having said that, the monument is an embarrassing half- complete lump of rock that the ancient Greeks and Romans would have cut into blocks for building material. What lazy, half-assed sculptor is responsible for this lump of shit? He should be confined with his work until he completes it.

I love Martin Luther King Jr. and all, but this is not what I believe he would want. JESUS and JEHOVAH GOD are the ones who he would say are the givers of "Hope" and JESUS is the "Rock!" Mr. King would be more prone to deny this than embrace it... MONEY is a Powerful force against the people GOD created and it can be the downfall one did not expect.
