@MaisSimples Than k you - and Ok, I promise I will keep this film in situ for you until tomorrow :-))) And even, a few years longer (it this world will still be here)! :-))
Lovely images as always and great Dorsey sound, but for me let down by Helen O'Connell's over-emphasised and mannered 'stylistic' delivery of a great song.
@cosycleaner There's another version recorded also at Decca in the same time by Tommy Dorsey, with Julie London doing the vocal. Comparing these two recordings, I think Helen O'Connell overtakes Julie three laps. So does Jimmy, in comparison with his brother. Thanks for your post :-)
@240252 It's Jo Stafford, and you're right, this one is better. Helen had a knack for making a big connection with the audience, whether on stage, film or record. You're also right about Jimmy, what a gorgeous solo. And the arrangement here, with the jazzy trumpet opening, probably an allusion to Bobby Hacket, is perfect.
@dzheger Aren't they delightful? Like two small kittens and one bigger cat in one basket. Oh, he must enjoy that closeness of these two sweethearts, I bet.
Hello Grzegorz - Helen O'Connell - always classy and gorgeous - in her appearance and her artistry - even in her advanced years. Your photographic artwork - as always super terrific. Clark Gable - an eternal "hearththrob" looked great even at his old age - so he always looked absolutely fabulous on the silver screen. However - according to an article about his famous smile - it claimed that the whitener for his teeth - was - frequently - hard to endure in tight close-ups. Thanks whole bunch!!
@tango3721 My favourite one from the whole collection in this clip is Grace Kelly. I think, she was on eof greatest American film actresses. Her acting in A Girl From the Province is one of the greatest female roles in whole film history. And such a beauty, such talent - wasted on these royal palace's parquet floor, under these tons of pearls and diamonds she had to wear on her from dawn till dusk. All, what excuses her was apparently true love, that tied prince Rainer to her.
Really delighted to find you spotlighting this Jimmy Dorsey record, made in the band's prime. Though I am genrally not a big admirer of those vocalists who fall into what I call the "song stylist" category (in contrast with just straight singers), I have always loved Helen O'Connell, who had a way of adapting any song she sang to her unique talents. ... Lovely images of some very famous embraces, some of which, as we know, were resumed off-screen!
@Trombonology One of YouTubers wrote that she over-emphasised and had a manered stylistics..Well, I do not think so. Like so many of us, here, I am also very sensitive to all kinds af artificiality in artistic interpretations. I think, she does have some sort of discreet exaggeration which however had been built-in her expression , making her voice even more fascinating.Besides, I sense bitterness in her voice - just as if she already noticed problems that'd soon break her career.
Pozdrawiam serdecznie ;-)
@XxXEMOBOYx Rzeczywiście, jest tu trochę obecny klimat "cinema noir" z lat 1940. Zresztą, uwielbiam tamto kino - Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Edward G.Robinson, no i oczywiście, absolutnie cudowna Veronica Lake!
Lovely... fascinating.. wonderderfully romantic....thank you!

Dreaminess for the ears and star glamour for the eyes. The last image of Clark Gable with Myrna Loy and Jean Harlow is adorable.
