This is as good as it gets. Does anyone know if this is on a commercially available DVD? Take a look at my post of Darrell with Mollie O'Brien and John Magnie at "Tedlpbc". Paul Brady is extraordinary!
Absolutley love this version, can't stop watching it, all members of the house band having fun. Hope you're watching and enjoying it too Stuart. Miss you big man, Big Country "our name will never die, this time will be forever"
Hi guys. My name is Harry Brown. I'm an enthusiastic pub singer (you can check out the sort of thing I do of by typing into Youtube .....Harrybrown1955 (no gaps). I Love this song am aware of the late Stuart Adamson connection and would like to find out how I can acquire a license agreement to use the melody and change the lyrics to compose a song for an upcoming event. Ive been toWarner Chappell who apparently own the Pub rights but hit a wall. How do I do a deal with SA's estate please?
The band is wonderful. Darrell should've remembered the line, "you don't mess around with a manic depressive"-They took that out of the original lyrics fpr some reason, I guess it isn't Kosher, but you know, maybe the next generation will get it. Song writing is in demand at a full.
Thanks for uploading this video. It's a great song. I'm a uilleann piper in a large band that features all the instruments in the video (minus the accordian and steel guitar) so I'm pushing for the band to add it to our repertoire.
How sad that an American had to bring Stuart's music to transatlantic sessions in Scotland. It shows how much esteem he is held in in Scotland by the establishment. You should be ashamed. Great cover by Darrell scott and Paul Brady of a brilliant song.
Darrell Scott and these musicians together is utterly sublime. I have enjoyed all of the videos featuring Darrell and also Tim so much it is hard to put it into words. This music truly stirs the soul.
Is there any album with Darrell and the entire house band like here? I've found so many videos of these sessions with Irish and folk sound and was curious if they have a full length album with these songs.
Has anyone thought about who they would love to see on the Transatlantic Sessions? I can think of a few on my Transatlantic wish list ! Steve Earle, Levon Helm and Greg Brown.
Transatlantic Sessions Series 4 starts TV transmission on BBC 2 Scotland (only) on Sunday 13 September 2009 at 22:50 BST. There are six episodes. (CD and DVD will follow).
This is truly awesome. My name is Paul Brady and my dah is Paul Brady. We were both born in Northern Ireland We each play guitar and sing. My dad is one hell of a yodeler and old country crooner and I am more of a Stan Rogers billow er.
America and Ireland just have this gorgeous relationship in music. I'm half Irish in blood and I feel half Irish musically too. It makes sense that my favorite music is Blues, Bluegrass, and Celtic... I was born and raised American and I trace back to Ireland and Scotland.
I'm Scott-Irish as well and have always loved bluegrass and celtic and folk. maybe it just runs in our blood... something genetic calls us home to this beautiful music.
@sokkerstud32 ive ponderd the genetic idea myself this music dose seem to draw the attention of something within me and i feel some sort of connection with it.
Anyone know where to chords are posted for this song? I haven't found anything, but my best guess so far is that it is Capo 2, Em7, Gadd9, Dsus4, C2 for the most part. Now, the difficult part is getting that incredible sounding strum down part.
If anyone has anything to add, or a site that already has this posted, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to spend some time listening to this and creating some chord sheets for myself!
Saw some of the series on BBC 4, now I`ve got the DVD and I`m totally hooked (hope I don`t where the DVD out) I`m not a bluegrass or C & W fan, but the mixture with celtic-folk-rock style music works a treat. Wonderfully talented muscicians, having a great time too ! I dare anyone not to get hooked with this DVD.. Gotta have more chaps. I`ve started checking out all the artists, and what a singer Joan Osbourne is. Thankyou guys...
Good news for all fans is the release of the DVD "Transatlantic Sessions: Series 3" bringing together the best of Nashville, Ireland and Scotland to perform what has been called "the greatest backporch shows ever".
All of the six half-hour programmes from the BBC/RTÉ TV series are included, recorded in a beautiful old converted farm steading in the Perthshire Highlands.
first time i watched this i was stoned out my face and found ot on tv ithe big guy playin the pipe made me so hapyp for some reason purely becouse of the enjoyment hes gettin from playin plus he looks around and winks at everyone pure genius this song ...cheers
This is a fantastic performance from all of the musicians for all to see.
The songwriting of the much missed late great Stuart Adamson should be explored more by other artists the guy was simply a genius and underated by so many .
Darrell and Paul's vocals with the band fairly ripping along with counter melodies and beats - just listen to Ronan Browne on those uilleann pipes 5 stars is not enough!
No you really can't get better than this blend of local and american virtuosos together with the outstanding vocal and guitar talent of the amazing Darrell Scott. Sublime indeed.
Love this song - and love the enthusiasm of class musician enjoying themselves. Wonderful stuff
