I'd also like to add this- I'm waiting for the day when instead of seeing the "tranny hooker junkie" on a TV show that is dead, overdosed or has been stabbed, we get to see the paramedic or the cop that saves the day as the transperson. Trust me, it's not at all far fetched and we are out there. Hollywood needs to catch up with this instead of just going for "shock value". It really hurts our community when we have no positive role models.

I love this. I am a transgender woman and have been an EMT for 11 years. Unfortunately, the stereotype for trans-people is that we are all escorts, drug addicts and porn stars. The reality is that we are people just like everyone else. We have feelings, dreams and just want to be given to chance to work in our professions. I'm sick that the transwomen shown on TV are treated more as a perverted joke and hookers when there are positive people like Amanda that never get 10 seconds on TV!!!

The National Center for Trans-gender Equality is a good organization to represent peoples rights. However I think there is concerns with how American civil rights and foreigner civil rights under the same equality standards, although fair and honest, can be transcribed across international boundary lines with citizenship.
