the difference between prestabbing and poststabbing Seles is the ability to close out a match after winning the first set. she would never be the same physically or mentally after the stabbing. She was always on the comeback trail until she retired in 2008. she was cheated out of so many grand slams during her 2 and half years off right after the stabbing and also the lack of ability to play at her best when she did come back...
Yeah monica put a bit more topspin on her forehand but the point is: MONICA IS MOVING TERRIBLE IN THIS MATCH! Very sad to see. Now she is so fit, slim, trained but she doesnt play anymore :-(
It might possibly be because of the underspin from Steffi's backhand. When it bounces, it kind of skids and forces opponents to use more topspin to get it back over the net.
What a class, what a grace Steffi had. She was a pleasure to watch.

@italo36 - Please ! Seles started off winning her FIRST TWO tournaments post comeback in toronto and a grand slam Australian Open ..
But when she came back players were better and so was steffi!
She couldnt cope with the new comers as her game was stale!

I thought Monica was using waaaay too much topspin on her forehand this match. Much more than usual.
