@theimaginarynumber Because of the chords used. There are a certain amount of chord combinations that can inflict the state of mind which you refer to.
Your playing is vile. And your rubato is a drama whore. I am going to hit you repeatedly in the face with something heavy and sharp until you stop with all the effeminate mincing about.
Very beautifully played, indeed. I created a little experiment playing Gnossienne No. 3 on an old analogue synthesizer. If interested, check: /watch?v=Wv7J5fSYiTw
I learned this recently, and I love it, but I'm very picky about the way people play it. However, I adore this rendition of it. You should be so proud of your amazing playing.
I will never ever get bored of this piece and your playing is absolutely lovely. If my life were a film, I would want to choose this as my theme music.
I'm 15.I just started doing piano lessons a few months ago and i already learned one of Mozzarts song but kinda screwed it up when i had a concert with the parents of every kids.Big emotions i had.I always wanted to know how to play the piano for me in the future when im going to have kids or when im going to be a grandfather to know how to play the piano but most of all for me,not to become a famous musician.I wonder ,i just wonder, would I reach one day your level?
Your video has helped me a lot. I will be performing this as one of my three pieces for music, and I find this version very well played. Thanks a lot. :)))
wow i never ever have heard some one playing this session with so much soul and sense like this cubuc is doing right now , the beauty of piano , the way its played you can just hear if someone is just playing , or realy expressing his feelings ....in this case the last of 2 is a fact this time , .
i am realy impressed by the way you touch the piano , it sounds almost identical to what satie did with this piece of music , 10/10 to you my friend , brilliant , absolute expression of emotion!
I absolutely love your playing of this song. One of the rare people who actually slow it down to give it its full potential. A like and a favorite from me =D
I currently think this is my favourite performance of Gnossieme no.3!
I'm doing my grade six piano this year and I have to play this piece as me C piece. Whenever I'm stuck on how to interpret this piece I listen to this! It is very good!
What grade are you ? I'm guessing high becuase your playing is very skilled!

@cubusdk - what is your opinion? if i can only afford to upgrade a rd-700 with the supernatural kit, or buy ivory keys italian instead; which one will provide the best upgrade of sound quality?
@fingerblips Between the two I would go for the upgrade for the RD-700 because no single sound can cover every type of music. Sometimes the best result is a mellow sound, sometimes it should be sharp. With the upgrade kit you get several quite different sounds that are all quite good. They are not just a little bit better than the build in ones, it is a complete new level of sound. You might also consider Ivory II Grands where you get 3 grands that cover the spectrum from mellow to sharp..
@cubusdk thanks for your feedback. it turns out the rd-700sx is incapable of the upgrade, only the gx. Wondering if latency is an issue for you with the Ivory II Grands? I'm not sure I could get used to latency
@fingerblips I'm running it on a laptop with a 7200 rpm harddisk and an external USB soundcard. It is not possible to use the build in soundcard concerning latency. My setup is satisfying concerning latency.
I love your recordings, as I love the quality of the sound in it. Could you please share what kind of device you use to record the audio in your videos?
how did you get such a good audio recording, i pressume the visual could have been pixelated so you added an effect (which definitely adds to the emotion of the piece). I never thought of recording like this. I like how it is just your hands. Ok, so back to my question, how did you get such a decent sound with your video camera. Do you write your own music also?
Played this at a school music competition once. Got 2nd place. Should have won though. The person who got 1st place wasn't even that good....I'm not bitter...
This is the most amazing performance of the 3rd Gnossienne by Satie that I have ever heard. I practically go into a trance whenever I hear this played by Cubus, it is sublime.
This piece is amazing and very nicely played , this has got to be one of the best versions on you tube, definitely gonna play this for my grade6 exam!

A song has words. A song is SUNG. This is a PIECE of music, which very few people seem to understand (judging by the 3 thumbs down in my previous comment - I did say I was sorry for sounding ignorant, but as a musician, you really should be able to know this is not a song!!)
i love how you play. i think your renditions of satie's work are the best that i have heard.
few pianists find so pleasant and poised a balance in within the broad spectrum of rhythm, ranging from a robotic, metronomic rhythm on one hand, to a halting, disturbingly convusive modulation the timing on the other hand.
I almost feel like I'm listening to Depeche Mode. This must be where Martin Gore gets his inspiration for most of his songs. : )
