@DrFunkensteinJunior Where did you get that cover for this mixtape? Cause the one I got when it came out was the one with them in a portrait surrounded by a green background.
This guys aint into chains and bitches. They 4 the culture,4 the hood, expresin' and provin' there is still bread behind the mic. Those are the people we need to listen to,not lil "soulja boy" wantin' to kiss me thru the phone... It is sad how real shyt was forgotten and buried in the ash, pissed on,shitted on etc.
Good stuff. Glad to see legends like Stevie on a track withThe Roots who are also legends. Black Thought is one of the greatest lyricist to touch earth. Especially Philly and we can't forget Sudan!
Black thought has crazy skill, no doubt. But as hard as it had to be to get Stevie Wonder on the original from Busta's Big Bang album, i don't think they should've fucked w/this. Besides that, Busta killed this, made it a personal song that alot of peeps can relate to.
This type of music makes me want to keep on living for sure. Proud to be Black and all that...Get over, get by, and get through it all! Hip Hop is such a rich and wealthy culture being robbed by Black and White Devil's alike!
Busta's version came first, off 'When Disaster Strikes' - with Stevie Wonder playing the piano and singing. However, J Period and Black Thought reworked the track, on the mixtape, The Best of The Roots, with Black Thought replacing Busta's verses. I like this one more.
Yeah! That storm can make you, or break you. Experienced a few storms in my lifetime. Welcomed many of them; but shook at some of the more severe ones. It's beautiful though;when you emerge, and the light has directed you on a new journey. But please believe! It's many more storms ahead, but I'm better equipped on how to navigate through it now. ( I truly relate too these cats lyrics; because their message is so accurate & to the point. Know need for the "Grand-Standing".
so instead of just all looking the same yall think we all sound the same too ? this aint Stevie Wonder .. put the pipe down ..back up away from the stove ...
im a huge fan of the roots and was surprised to see a "best of" album i never heard of sittin on the rack for cheap... bought it and popped it in just thinkin it would be a decent mix of the roots better known songs, and, well... damn.... i think i just kept driving until i heard the whole thing.... shit is brilliant. a must have for anybody who likes anything
@namkooc i think its because he sounds so young and fresh and funky. and of course stevie is and always will be all of that, but there is a disconnect
this beat was made by my man!!!!!!! black jeruz out of raleigh,nc...not sha maoney xl!!! not the roots BLACK JERUZ google him if u want ...im tired of people tryna take credit..i jus so happen 2 be in the studio wit him when he made it......N.C STAND UP BLLLLATTTTT!!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
is that really stevie? i wish the roots would just lose the rap thinga and come out with instrumental albums.. they're way too good on the jimmy fallon show, and they're getting kind of bland on this hip hop stuff because hip hop is getting bland.. then they could make a sick stevie wonder record instead of making him sing hooks
Yea, Black Thought is definitely in a league of his own. A lot of rappers usually got a really crazy line or two that hits you, but with Thought, when you really listen, everything he says is just so harrd.
geez. black thought is one of a kind man. bland? nobody, not anybody, can rap like him. not saying he's the best, but he's definitely 100% unique and NOT bland.
Me and all the other Guys here know that is Stevie, it is the J.Period exclusive Version that he made for his Best Of The Roots Album, he took the instrumental and Stevies Hook of Busta's Song from The Big Bang Album, and Black Thought kicked his Rhymes over this Dope Beat. Thats what Wikipedis says on The Big Bang Album Wiki Site: Stevie Wonder plays piano and sings on "Been Through the Storm" So thats it, it's no one other than Stevie Wonder!
