I just bought a Taurus 651. I can't wait until it arrives. I got the blued finish one. Do you have a different grip? I don't think the grip on mine has room for the pinky finger.
wieght 170z!! 2" barrel I love it I think im gonna buy this one can't beat such a lite wieght gun with a shrouded hammer! Taurus really did nice with this one great video!!
Great video, showing in detail the revolver's action. Really cool stuff.
Question, what brand/kind of cartridges are you using? And more specifically, what kind is the second shot? I'm impressed at its lack of flash while yielding an equally powerful blast.
And what about the solidity of the gun itself?
I've only shot Rugers [SP101 snub in .38] but I'm thinking of buying a Taurus CIA 650: have you ever tried it?
Second shot is a 38 Special +P I think they are called. A kicked up 38 round. The gun is solid, and the rubber grip means you have control over every, arm numbing explosion.
this gun does have a hammer, and you can cock it to single action. the hammer is shrouded by to steel hoods for concealment. I own this gun, it is one of my favorites. nice little handful of fire power!!!
hey gl so the .357 is a better gun to have in a scrape than a 9mm. i also think that. ive owned many 9mm and ive owned many other guns and i will never own another 9mm again because the penetration is not there.. shoot thru 3/4 inch plywood spaced 4 inches apart and see how the 9mm does then try the .357 :)
hell ya 357 is far more aggressive than 9mm!!! 357 magnum will crack the engine block of a truck. out of all the ballistics, 125 Grain 357 mag has the very best record for one shot stops.
Were you shooting .357 or .38 out of it? For one handed firing from an ultra lite snubby, the kick looked pretty light/managable. I'm highly considering this model for a future CCW
You've "seen lots of data". How much have you actually tested? Do you own a Chronograph and know how to use it? I've been shooting since 1972. I've fired bullets through wood, clay, water, concrete blocks, gelatin, etc. I've arrived at water as the most consistent and relaible test medium for bullet testing to indicate living-flesh impact results. Water is not perfect, but it is far more consistent than gelatin, with bullets performing about the same in water or gelatin.
Your statement "Identical weight/caliber/velocity and bullet design means identical performance" is totally inaccurate, other than in a purely theoretical sense. Example: two 357 Mag 125 gr bullets at 1450 fps, one a FMJ and one a JHP, have identical power theoretically. However, in water penetration tests, you will see that the FMJ is totally inadequate for self-defence, due to minimal impact effect and overpenetration. The 125 JHP is perfect, with great impact and 13-inch water penetration!
For the record, I can handload the 357 Mag revolver FAR beyond what the 9mm, 357 Sig, 38 Super, etc. auto pistol can handle without damage. The auto pistols would come apart at the extreme 357 Mag levels I'm talking about. No contest there. Of course, those 357 loads would only be used in a L-frame S&W or larger, or a Single-Action revolver.
From my notes, the actual chronograph readings. The revolver used was a Taurus 66 4-inch, 7-shot, instead of the S & W 66 4-Inch I first remembered. CED Millenium Chrono, using sky screens set 15 feet from the muzzle:
Reality is what a person can see occurring directly in front of them. I test all ammo on my own before I carry any of it. It is easy for big money behind the scenes to affect tests published in books and magazines. It is best to deal with reality, particularly when your life is involved.
My chronograph readings for Winchester .357 Magnum 125 grain JHP's fired from a 4" S&W 66 is 1472 FPS average for 12 rounds. The Winchester web-site says 1450 fps. The Win 125JHP 357 Mag's will do 1300fps from a 2" revolver, and the 2" revolver will outperfrom any 9mm fired from a full-sized 4" 9mm autopistol that I've ever tested in water penetration tests.
In water penetration tests, the exposed lead tips on revolver JHP ammo will open with explosive results; 9mm ammo simply cannot equal that. I'm talking actual shooting tests into water tanks, recovering bullets, and observing results. Auto pistol ammo has to have the jacket all the way to the hollow-point opening in order to ensure reliable feeding. This is why a .357 Mag revolver outperforms the 357 Sig and 9mm in REAL tests. Actual bullet performance is what counts.
Totally inaccurate statement. I've run water penetration teats on many rounds to verify hollow-point expansion. The 9mm is an adequate but not great performer in full-size guns. In a 4" revolver, the (Win & Rem)38 Special +P 158 grain lead hollow-point out performs every 9mm load. Only the Cor-Bon 115 grain JHP 9mm is close. The 2" revolver has the same BALLISTIC barrel length as a 4" 9mm, and in a more compact & much more reliable package. The 357Mag 125gr JHP in a 2" beats any 9mm 4" TOTALLY.
For self defense, the odds say that you probably won't be more than 3 yards away from your attacker. It will probably be dark, and you won't be aiming perfectly anyway. Big, stopping rounds + big flashes + old school revolver reliability mean that you made an excellent choice. Conceals nicely too.
hey guess what froderoo? velocity without muzzle energy means absolutely dick. .357 magnum is the most effective self defense round if you're not worried about recoil. That fact has been proven many times. Nice wheel-gun you bought ck
Hear it bark! I saw an insane black guy get double-tapped with one of these down in Florida. He died instantly. Awesome destruction on the human body. He was smashing someone's car with a baseball bat. Some dude went over and told him to drop the bat, the black dude charged him with the bat. The black dude died.
It is an accurate description, as in "blue" shirt. Saying just "man" is a totally blank image and statement. Saying "red-haired biker dude" would have also been equally descriptive without being prejudicial toward all "biker dudes". Let common-sense rule, and let's deal with reality. Wandering lost in PC fantasy-land, unable to deal with reality is mentally unhealthy.
I would think that a .357 in that small of a package would be somewhat of a waste. Too much energy is lost, being burned outside the barrel where you gain nothing more than muzzle flash and blast. A .38 special +P might be a better option. Still, the flash is impressive.
lots of power in a little package lol. the first revolver i fired was a kind just like that except black and in .38 special. you can put .38 special in that revolver for target practice.
I have the same gun in total titanium, with 158 mag loads it's a hand full, Love this gun!

There is a hammer. You can see it because this model has a shroud that covers it on both sides to keep it from snaging on clothing.

All 357 MAG, one P was mixed in as you can see. It didn't make a flash. P's are still cool, they make people stop robbing you.

What kind of loads were those? Firing full house .357 is hard enough from a 4 inch barrel gun let alone a snub.

not many pistols are rated to shoot 9mm +P+, especially conceal carry.
