PJ rocks..I love their music, their lyrics have so much power to them, My late wife loved the song "Black" makes me tear and remember her when i hear it.
I always notice that little mistake at 3:12 were the guitarist hits a harmonic he wasnt suppose to...just shows that not everyones perfetct! I love it! Pearl Jam Rocks!
How the hell could this masterpiece be written in 20 mins?? Just goes to show the talent of this band. Eddie's voice is unbelievable. Great song on the greatest album.
have written over 800 poems and 12 songs thanks to the TEN album. This is a major favorite song that used to hypnotize me when I was 14. It saved my life when I didnt think I had friends and the ropes were the answer. Now that my dad is dying, he needs so much release from the pain he is in,,, barely skin only bones.. can't surf anymore...gotta listen to the song again and the wound will be covered with a special band aid..Thanks for posting this song...
Sony Music just fucked up my playlist. I spent 1 hour doing their last setlist into a playlist, and now I can't play it due some sony music bullshit rights.
It just doesn't work on playlist, can you believe it?
pearl jam is my god. no other band can raise and lower my emotions, as if waves crashing against the seattle shore. nothing is of comparison to the epic happening of pearl jam. the story, the people, the time, the places, the expirience, and the sound.
When I purchased the "Ten" CD from Pearl Jam nearly 20 years ago, I gave the disc a listen and fell in love with this song! It actually became my favorite song of the collection!
This song reminds me of my morphine addiction I had back in high school... Release seemed perfect with the way I felt when I was high. It made the song all the more powerful and it really spoke to me.. "Ill Ride the Wave Where it Takes ME" Blew me away!! I no longer use and Im thankful for that. Release is a very beautiful song and has new meaning since Ive been off all drugs for almost a year now.. Its really opened up my eyes. I will always be a Pearl Jam fan no matter what life brings me:)
@sugawulfpimp1 I actually hear a rap version of the song Jeremy, called Jereme. It's rather good from some unknown rapper. If I can find it, Ill be sure to share. It's a bit more modernized but kinda cool nonetheless
@Mflyingspacemonkey i dunno i am happy if you just type release in you tube search it comes up number 1 i wish i get a million hits yo have a great day

Hey, what's up everybody... I'm here because all of you guys are Pearl Jam fans, and because, if you can deal with a little bit of 'spam', I'm here to promote my new band Overshadowed. We just got done recording our demo, it's on our channel, and we'd love if anyone could simply check the songs, leave a comment, or anything of the sort. We'd really appreciate it!
FYI, I came HERE because we love and respect Pearl Jam, and are hoping for whatever respect you guys might have leftover...
I know he's singing about his dad, but this song speaks to me differently. I'm in love with a married woman (and I'm living temporarily with her family), but...the fucking pain of that unfulfilled emotion is a poison in my heart. And this song is soothing. I need release from that love. Eddie Vedder reaches out and speaks to the heart.
@demravager That is what is brilliant about Eddie Vedder, man. His words touch souls and bring out an infinite array of emotions.... Release is beautiful.
@sydneycarton79: Not to be a douche, but the lyric is "Oh dear dad, can you see me now?" Release is Eddie singing to his dad. His dead died before Eddie ever met him.
@daniel9581: Nirvana isn't pop. Nirvana is a great band. (Personally I prefer Pearl Jam) But seriously, there is no Pearl Jam/Nirvana rivalry, just a Pearl Jam fanboy/Nirvana fanboy rivalry. Can't we just be in love with 2 AMAZING and very different bands?
ive loved this song from the day it came out. it has gottin me through some very hard times, like when i lost my Father. i think that Eddies voice/tones can grip your soul in this song, it did mine!
This is my mom's favorite song. Whenever I'm sad I go to this video and have her sing it to me. I don't know why she loves pearl jam, and why she loves this one particular song the most but... when I hear her sing it to me... it's relieving. my father passed away in 95 when i was 5. and i clicked on the video to hear the song and right when he goes dear dad i look at it and the creators name is shawn just like my fathers.
i remeber about 4 years ago i was goin thro a rough time with my friends and i remeber just sittng on my bed thinking about life and then after the song ended i just felt really good. this song really is a heavy song.
@stevai6732 could be worse you could of married a whore and terrible mother like me. and your forced to stick with her cause are court system is fucked up. and she would get them over me wow what a crazy thought but it happened once before and now im back and miserable all for my kids . so maybe its the countries fault
@stevai6732 dude maybe your parents suck. maybe your just a cunt. but crying to the whole world is a bitch move man the fuck up. move on you got one chance on this earth cryin will leave you in the dust. puff up the chest take a breath be a man and make the most of your only shot on earth. try music food pussy a good drink and be a better dad than yours. good luck
Dang, heard this song just now for the first time in years... Instant reminder of 1991 when I fell in love with this remarkable band. One of the most beautiful songs ever recorded in my opinion, brings me to tears every time. "Ten" changed my life!
My brother has a tribute band to pearl jam. Last year, he played a show and I was there with my mother. While he was singing that song, release, i looked at my mother and her eyes were filled with tears. She was cryin watching her son singing this amazing son. My mother died in a car accident 4 months ago. So this song bring me tears. Love you mom, your now released...
@stevai6732 wow bro my mum died when i was kid an my pops well he is ....... but shit happens no need to bash pearl jam ,,, but hope all is well burn one down you'll feel better
My father passed out unexpectedly 3 years ago and this song brings me always full of tears. It's like a cleanse off sadness, a cure. It helps me very much, thank you Pearl Jam.
I think this songs about both his relationship with both his fathers... the one he grew up thinking was his dad and his actual dad who died before Eddie met him. But anyway it's about what it means to people more importantly
well he uses the wave as an analogy of going where he's led so yes its definitely inspired by surfing. But I believe its also letting out some of the thoughts he had concerning his dad.
