What Dr. Szasz is trying to get at is you can be fully healed from depression and ADHD by using natural therapy processes like EFT or energy therapy which is proven to be thousands of times more effective than medication. Medication will only eliminate symptoms, not the true rooted problem. A lot of people don't realize the power of our brains and the minds amazing ability to heal itself naturally!..it's incredible!..and no medication will completely heal you
Well, emotionally I agree a lot with this way of thinking. Basically no psychotropic drug in the world can eliminate the social and cultural causes of depression i.e. Demonizing them however and psychiatry in general would be the other way of dogmatic thinking. As we see right here in our comment section by the well known tone of our friends... Evangelical denomination presumably?
Pray to GOD, ask HIM to come into your life. Tell HIM you don't like feeling depressed, that you don't like hearing voices, or anything else that is bothering you.
Trust me if you truly believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and you love HIM, you believe HE loves you, you will never have any "mental illness" again!!!
Timothy : To every believer in Christ HE gives sound mind. There is no such thing as mental illness. Believe your Bible
In the late 50's the CIA Paid a Dr Cameron in Montreal to carry out brainwashing on his patient's. At one time Dr Cameron had been President of the World Psychiatric Assoc. Cameron injected LSD mixed with other drugs, Massive electric shocks and weeks of sleep as a brainwashtape played. It was horrific! I am telling my story on You Tube called youkilledyourmother
still, hes right, psychiatrists whore themselves to drug companies so that they can get a cut of the profit. Most prescription drugs are toxic and have devastating side effects. ADHD isn't a real disease, children are supposed to be immature, irrational, and energetic. Uneducated parents don't realize this and think there's something wrong with them mentally. Big Pharma, knowing they can make a ton of money peddling drugs to kids, supply.
A schizophrenic women takes her medication and is quite functional. When she doesn't take it, she becomes catatonic. You don't mind if she takes it, do you? Or is catatonia a state of self-actualization not sufficiently understood by psychiatry?
Is there any legal recourse 4 someone who's being held in a hosp &forced to take psych drugs agnst their will? A family member is being forced to take drugs that obviously are not helping. The drugs are making her confused, disoriented &, essentially, mentally ill. We're trying to get her out of the hosp & back home where we can get her some real help. She's being held like a prisoner rt now by a hospital that isn't helping her one bit. Isn't it agnst the law to force psych drugs on a patient?
If you go to a hospital, especially any kind of mental hospital, and you or the responsible person signs you in, the hospital has the right to give you as much pills as they want, whatever they want, whenever they want. The pills they give are supposed to calm you down but are obviously experimental. I don't know how you could get her out though, maybe call the hospital and see what's going on? Good luck!
Not true, at least in Connecticut, and probably not true in any other state. A patient can be given medication or other treatment against her will, only after a hearing before a judge, who must be convinced by the preponderance of evidence that the treatment is necessary.
That's not how it is here. I'm speaking from experience. Once you sign a paper you are under the hospitals control of what they think is best for you.
Personally , I think he brings up some valid points..But Dr S. is really overreacting..though they are both right, and so is the other side overreacting, as if its the prime solution to every case...bottom line- It all depends who, where, and what... you have to be open minded about it. hear both sides...and act according to each case. The prob. seems to be, is to find the one to be as an mediator..lol
Nothing wrong with taking drugs to alter your consciousness to make life a little more fun. Some good ol Benzos ta calm ya down some good ol amphetamines when you need to study. Just too bad you have to get em from the medical profession. It is of course too bad we have to label, but thats what humans do, we like to catagorize. And yeah, there is physical proof of brain alterations from many mental illnesses...get it right. Now, I want some sleep...where did i put that melatonin.
Unfortunately he is missing something; behavior can be caused biologically, but also reactionary, like a seizure. But, none the less, it was good for its time and makes good points, but the trump card lies further. You have to attack psychiatry's "Science" with a blitzkrieg of science. Try and compact everything into this quickest and sharpest possible. The power of words, the magic of logic. This injustice will not stand; I'll be taking down psychiatry from all sides, distances and angles.
Dr Szasz is a dear colleague of mine who retains the healthy capacity to question. While he so rightfully reminds us of the excesses, he may run the risk to deny (or help to deny) real, painful illness when it exists. Attention Deficit, often unnecesarily medicated, can improve dramatically when properly assessed and treated with meds preventing innumerable difficulties in later life.
It is such a pity that he doesn't seem to realise that their are changes in the brains of children and adults diagnosed with ADHD (He really does need to keep up to date with his reading) .... And the fact that medication helps?!
Clearly these assholes have no idea what it's like to battle depression. I personally have battled an overwhelming sense of dread for all of my adult life, and medication has helped me in a very positive way and I because of it I am able to live a happy, balanced life. They seem to be missing the point that they are opposed to psychology and yet THEY ARE PSYCHOLOGISTS! Pure hypocrisy! So in their view, being crazy or depressed is just nonsense because they can't see it with their eyes.
Drugs are *not* the only way to solve your problems. Look into the mental, social, environmental, social, emotional aspects of your life. Everything problem can be solved with drugs == profits for pharmaceutical industry.
I'm not saying that SOME people in today's society aren't over medicated, and yes I agree that drugs are not a cure all. But anyone who has never personally dealt with depression or some other form of mental problem really has no idea what it's like. People have a really false misconception that all medicated people are zombies and this is simply not true. For some, like myself, medication helps me cope with things better. It doesn't solve all my problems.
Maybe psychiatry has spiraled off in its own self important direction, but what does Dr. Szasz think about the symptoms of ADHD, of Bipolar and Schizophrenia? Doesn't psychiatry label these things as "disorders" and not "diseases"? There must be a difference. I really want to know.
One of the true champions of liberty and personal freedom still alive! The writings of Dr. Szasz should be mandatory reading in US school systems just as is American history - not just for students, but for faculty and administrators more importantly. Dr. Szasz is getting very old - I will miss him when he leaves us and hope there is another champion of liberty who will emerge and carry forth his ideas.

Remember a psychiatrist is as credible,
as the Easter rabbit. Do not ever seek one,no matter what!!! Talk to GOD!!! HE is free, and HE works!!!
If you refuse to believe in GOD, get a psychologist, at least they can't prescribe
"medicine" which is poison from satan.
This poison will ruin lives for sure!!
Psychiatry is right there with the stork delivering a baby at your door.
I beg anyone who feels they can't live one more day to TURN TO GOD NOW!!!
HE will take away the pain.

Dr. Thomas Szasz is exposing the totally
evil profession "psychiatry".
He is honest, brave, he is a brilliant man!!
There is a GOD, and He doesn't ask us to obey his 10 commandments, He commands us to. When we don't, then we are inviting sin into our lives.
Dr. Thomas Szasz mentions behavior problem. A behavior problem is just a fancy word for sin.
Yes there is a real satan the devil who is spiritually alive and destroying lives with his fallen angels. he is going undetected.

What sort of smear is this? He has no history with Scientology other than to work with the group in opposition to psychiatric coercion.
