I've always loved this song by Lou Reed, and this is a great video. But honestly, I do find the violence of "Kicks" a bit disturbing. Then again, that's the great thing about Lou - he covers the whole gamut of human experience in his solo and Velvet work, from the most sublime and spiritual right down to the darkest of the dark.

I was actually taken to the London Hammersmith gig of this tour which I think was at the end of 1975 (still got the programme!)- and i remember this song, it was fantastic. I remember also someone in the audience making funny noises and Lou Lou refused to sing and went and sat on the drum kit podium. That was really amazing to see. Lou was so fantastic in the 70's. I think the lifestyle got to him, and it was so encouraging to see him recover. When Keith Moon gave up drink, Pete Townshend remarked how they needed the old Keith. You know, go out and kill youself or get lost. I think Lou Reed is very smart to change.
