Ignoring the fact that your engine will blow up soon, pushing it past 7500 your out of its power band meaning the faster it spins the less power its actually making. (I'm talking in the context of stock engines*)
There is a rev limiter since the springs can only move the injectors and ejectors so fast. When you rev the engine too much, you get valve float. Which means, the engine will be running faster than the springs can recoil and you will smash a cylinger into one of the valves. Goodbye engine.
I have a v6 tiburon with ferrea springs and retainers, hi cams and tune reving very healthy to 8300rpm, no problems at all to rev an engine off the limit with the right parts :D
@NotARealUTubeAccount no but my screen was cracked at this time you fucking bitch i asked a question either way you could have answered not "you blind" go get laid bitch
@GargantulaKon increase in top speed and accelaration.major disadvantage is you dangerously increase the chances of blowing your engine, and voiding any warranty you had of course
Looking at the horsepower and torque dyno graph says other wise. The power goes down as the revs increase past 6,300. For top speed, I thought that you just need to remove the 149 mph governor for the 3.8 V6.
i love how people think reving past the stock rev limiter is abuse. just so the stupid people in the world know. from the factory they limit what a person can do with the engine so it last longer. so reving another 1000rpms isnt going to kill the engine as long as the fuel maps are done correctly.
@zeropm1 not true. lets take a honda for example many people change the rev limiter on those and they still get 150,000+ miles out of the engine with no major problems. the tune it everything in building a car.
@xbartosx i will not say you´re wrong. But i have trouble understanding how with more rotation the engine doesn´t wear more rapidly. Example : for the same mileage a piston will have to travel more distance inside the cylinder so...
@zeropm1 thats where the tune comes in if the car is run lean then it will die quickly but as long as it doesnt out do the valve springs and cam it wont have much of an effect at all. i do see where your coming from and you are correct in extreme cases it can shorten an engines life by alot.
@xbartosx but honda enginering is far far better than hyundai ,a 4 cylinder honda is made for reving its proven ,not hyundai engines ,not the same engine conception
@SILVER11821 well hyundai a few years ago was second to lexus in reliablility. do you know why a honda engine can rev so high? there is nothing wrong with reving the engine out like this as long as the fuel maps are there and the valve springs are strong enough. i didnt hear any of the valves float but that could be from the speakers not picking every noise up but still.
yeah that wont be good for the car. These kind of V6's werent meant to be revved much over 6500rpm. Hense why your redline was probably 7 grand or 7500 if I am mistaken?
I hear no rev limiter, maybe you think that taking engine to 7k revs is hitting a rev limiter, thats stupid, for that car, a rev limiter should be on 6k(and thats even a lot)..so better inform yourself about cars
If that car has hydraulic valve lash adjusters I'd give that car another 100 miles to live before this jackass punches a hole in a piston or bends a valve.
There is little to be gained in raising the rev limit on a stock engine except maybe shaving a few of tenths off the 0-100km/h times by eliminating time lost from the 2-3 shift or from hitting the fuel cutoff. The motor may not fail right away but design limits are pushed and the margin of safety is reduced. Engine failures from over-revs more often result from piston to valve contact. Thrown rods from over-revs are also possible but usually arise from insufficient lubrication.
seriously dude... you gota shift... when you notice the power drop off, then its prolly time to SHIFT!!! 3.8L just isent meant to move that fast... hence why there was a limit of 6.5... LOL
...MORONS... they limit rpm for reliability reasons... the manufacturer will assume you will drive like a moron and never change the air filter, oil or ever maintain anything. That said you can increase the rev limiter in anything SAFELY...especially mainstream vehicles like a hyundai genesis. ITS CHILL
funny how a tool like that who obviously doesnt care for the health of the car actually has one....yet people like me who would treat the car like a divine object get stuck with shit.
@HoNdApAdDy08 sorry, wont happen. The rod's would get thrown out to the sides, if anything. Besides, rods aren't the first thing to go at high rpms. Usually you will float a valve because the springs aren't stiff enough to keep up with those rpms, and the piston will smack the valve and damage the piston, valve, and cylinder head. People take low RPM bottom ends out to high revs all the time when they do LS-Vtec and CR-Vtec setups
is the engine safe at that RPM. I know the manufacturers sometimes will under rate engines just because they haven't tested them at high rpm. And then found that they were okay for another 1000 rpm, higher than there red line. This happened with my cobalt SS that I had. And my current azera 3.8 never shifts at the red line.
"you dumb fuck ur gonna break the engine if you keep driving it like that you fuck face. You don't deseve a Genesis, you deserve an American junk. " - so true
@JKTheDoc You are an idiot. Anything can run higher rpms than stock calibrations allow. With good monitoring and a healthy software upgrade, the pcm still senses when things go awry and can stick these cars into Limp Home mode to protect parts. Know what you are talking about before you complain. Also, cussing someone out without knowing what you are talking about is rather pathetic.
@JKTheDoc haa i laughed at that cuz it sounds like u own the car. did he ask from your opinion on what was going to happen to the engine? no. he didnt.
@JKTheDoc its not yours. why do you give a fuck. its his/her money being wasted. and FYI Driving Fast doesnt blow the engine, if hes shifting properly and has the proper tires (Z Rates) all hes doing is pissing away gas. And as far as safety goes for all you know that was on an airport Runway, the Kids round here zip back and forth on a local airport runway(its a Private airport)
Fact: Higher RPM's are much harder on the engine. The engine in this car is not designed to withstand the RPM's that were being reached in this video. If he drives like that very long then yes, his engine will most certainly pop. Also, since this engine was not designed to rev that high that also means that it's not efficient at those RPM's. It's not even making good power that high up in the revs. Notice how the acceleration drops off up there. No point in doing this.

You frick, you're going to blow your engine. What do you think rev limiters are for. Now go ahead and spend $5,000 on a new engine when you mess this one up. That's way too much for a frickin' hyundai.
i'm just waiting for the day this guy blows his engine only to find out the repairs won't be covered under warranty. Revving a stock engine to nearly 8k is asking for trouble, and it isn't making any power at such high RPM's.

Thank you for proving my point sir.... Out of all the cars produced around the world this list makes up what 1.5% i guess, hardly numerous,... its a few. Im not trying to argue with you at all... Its funny you say Subarus when only the Impreza model revs that high..
My grammar in the last message wasn't incorrect i forgot a comma sorry if you couldn't understand it because of that.
1. Your grammar "no numerous cars don't rev" is incorrect in three ways including the comma. Can you find the other two?
And 2. Here's some math. I'll use the Impreza since you gracefully used that as an example. Subaru Impreza = [(Amount of models x amount of years it's been out)(Amount of options to choose from)](The mass production of the vehicle). Then do that to all the cars (not companies) and tell me your answer. And please don't respond to my 5 month old posts.
Ha... I'm not exactly sure what makes you think you can tell me what to do, if you do not want people to respond to your post, even if its 6 yrs old!...Then delete them... I understand where your coming from but even with that it's a few models with different customizable options. I'm done.
there are a lot of engines that can rev past 8krpm, just none that make peak power at that rev. vq35 engine for example redlines at ~7k or a lil higher, but the engine can safely rev to 9k+
its cool that you took tha rev limter off but you should have it set to like 7000rpms cuz once your not in your power band you start to lose power if you dont know where your power band is, but still this it tight
You need to remember, that with many cars that get the rev limiter removed, the rest of the ecu gets flashed as well. The timing changes so it can still produce power up that high, like the g35's/g37's. Just simply taking the rev limiter off and reving way past it's powerband is a negative, not a postive.
you have to program the ecu to change the rev limiter. my friend did it with his mustang... cant really say it went well... messed up everything and he had to get it reprogramed
theres really no point in doing that because the powerband ends at like 6800rpms, only thing your get out of doing that is a blown engine and a louder exhaust
limited the maximun speed b/c the government usually we say "governed" that has a benefit in paying less insurance but it depends on the country in Vancouver I heard over 250km means more insurance... also the limit reduces temptation of speeding now that decreases the chance of accident
Yeah I don't think its a good idea to do that to your motor, its most likely making less power as you go past your redline and you're only destroying the motor slowly. The VQ35/37HR are meant for 7500 RPM stock. This is a nice cheap alternative to the 370z/G37 though.
I purchased my vehicle because I like it, not for anyone else. It doesn't matter what anyone elst thinks, it only matters what Jesus thinks. Praise God!
So what does that make the Genesis, you idiot? It's IMITATING a G37, which by your words, is an overpriced sport car wanabe. So the Hyundai is imitating an imitator?
Well, as I can see, another ignorant needing to insult someone to feel that he has the reason.....poor loser!...
What I mean is that I can get a very nice car, with nice PERSONAL IDENTITY with good things learned from the real professionals, for a very good price, always keeping in mind that they are a regular brand, never pretending to be an OVERPRICED LUXURY WANNABE JAPANESE CAR....

Ratava252 1 year ago
Ha... I'm not exactly sure what makes you think you can tell me what to do, if you do not want people to respond to your post, even if its 6 yrs old!...Then delete them... I understand where your coming from but even with that it's a few models with different customizable options. I'm done.
zepher89 1 year ago
You still need to answer how many imprezas that is, and also the 2 other mistakes in your sentence.
Ratava252 1 year ago
there are a lot of engines that can rev past 8krpm, just none that make peak power at that rev. vq35 engine for example redlines at ~7k or a lil higher, but the engine can safely rev to 9k+
dhillskier75 1 year ago
@dhillskier75 well at least you weren't rude about it whew.
zepher89 1 year ago
The only problem is that puts a LOT of stress on your engine
GPlayerLogan 2 years ago 4
its nice cause almost all honda red line at 8000rphms alot of cars are lower like 6000rpms and below
henryc789 2 years ago
That didnt sound safe, dude trust me...put that thing back atleast to 7300 or something
2jz4fun 2 years ago
did u hear how it sounded at the end of 2nd and 3rd gear? dnt know if it was the exhaust or da engine
sickndboy 2 years ago
Yeah I think your gunna blow that engine really fast like that. The rev limiter is there for a reason.

your going to blow the engine idiot. Sounds like a 4 cilinder engine, not like a 3.8 v6
vegetablelon 2 years ago
Its a 3.8 V6.
ConceptVBS 2 years ago
its cool that you took tha rev limter off but you should have it set to like 7000rpms cuz once your not in your power band you start to lose power if you dont know where your power band is, but still this it tight
saleenxxx 2 years ago 2
He meant that it sounds like a 4-cylinder because its revving too high for a V6.
SmallRoomBigSound 1 year ago
You need to remember, that with many cars that get the rev limiter removed, the rest of the ecu gets flashed as well. The timing changes so it can still produce power up that high, like the g35's/g37's. Just simply taking the rev limiter off and reving way past it's powerband is a negative, not a postive.
thedominionx 2 years ago
how the fuck do u remove the limiter? anybody?
jbhsjb09 2 years ago
usually through getting aftermarket engine management or getting your stock ecu tuned.
cgonda 2 years ago
you have to program the ecu to change the rev limiter. my friend did it with his mustang... cant really say it went well... messed up everything and he had to get it reprogramed
anxemptyxsky7188 2 years ago
theres really no point in doing that because the powerband ends at like 6800rpms, only thing your get out of doing that is a blown engine and a louder exhaust
claud122003 2 years ago 4
lol i was imagining the same thing if i had removed the limiter on my stock tc.
viper2788 2 years ago
7700 rpm on this motor, 1000 more than stock? Uh...good luck with that.
It's one thing to flash a G37 motor from 7500 to 8000, but this much? I wouldn't do it.
ambientflier 2 years ago
uhhhh in 5's aren't fast? soooooo a ferrari testarossa wouldn't be fast? or a BMW 540? ooooookay there vash whatever you say

they advertise that 0-60 is in the 5's
joshnewkirk1 2 years ago
easy there... it's barely broken in. that was tight though..
krnxboy7 2 years ago 4
ok i know a lot of these other people commenting about how "fast" it is arent the brightest with cars, but under 6 is definitely respectable.
tantifheroz 2 years ago
So fast... but couldn't be good for the car. I mean... there's a reason why Hyundai engineers limited RPM at that point.
LZKS 2 years ago
limited the maximun speed b/c the government usually we say "governed" that has a benefit in paying less insurance but it depends on the country in Vancouver I heard over 250km means more insurance... also the limit reduces temptation of speeding now that decreases the chance of accident
dukemam 2 years ago
dude that's awesome but cant be good lol... have you done any mods?
TallPaul808 2 years ago
holy fuck dude is that safe? Otherwise its bad ass! That thing sounds sweet.
FiredUpZ28 2 years ago
Damn that thing is revving high! I only take mine up to like 6k max right now, it's pretty fresh.
CFLGenesisClub 2 years ago
sure would be funny if someone posted up a 2.0t reving really high and saying they turned off the rev limiter to a v6....
anonazero 2 years ago
Yeah I don't think its a good idea to do that to your motor, its most likely making less power as you go past your redline and you're only destroying the motor slowly. The VQ35/37HR are meant for 7500 RPM stock. This is a nice cheap alternative to the 370z/G37 though.

It's a real shame to abuse a nice vehicle like that. That's why nobody drives my Tiburon but me.

Very good, I liked it, it was not even in 5th gear and it was flying already, FUCK G37 OVERPRICED LUXURY EUROPEAN SPORT CAR WANNABE from Japan....
wtrdogg20 2 years ago
So what does that make the Genesis, you idiot? It's IMITATING a G37, which by your words, is an overpriced sport car wanabe. So the Hyundai is imitating an imitator?
ambientflier 2 years ago
Well, as I can see, another ignorant needing to insult someone to feel that he has the reason.....poor loser!...
What I mean is that I can get a very nice car, with nice PERSONAL IDENTITY with good things learned from the real professionals, for a very good price, always keeping in mind that they are a regular brand, never pretending to be an OVERPRICED LUXURY WANNABE JAPANESE CAR....
Grow up, kid!
