My wife is working in Spain this year and everyone seems to expect that that is just how it works. The employer pays for your housing, does all the paperwork, all you have to do is show up and work, and collect your pay.
English schools in Asia NEED foreign native speakers from North America in order to teach people how to speak like a North American... In my wife's case, Spanish Universities don't NEED Canadian scientists, they could get scientists from Europe.

Everyone here in Canada knows someone who has gone to Asia to teach, and so there is a certain expectation of what employers overseas are somehow "supposed to" do just as a matter of fact.
Because English schools in Asia arrange all the immigration paperwork, living arrangements, incometax etc. for Canadian graduates to come over and teach for a year or two... people expect that ALL foreign companies do that for you if you go overseas to work.

Taiwan education and parenting is going to shit. It wasn't that long ago that teachers could hit the kids without problems. Now, you can't even call a kid a silly name?
Are you there wasn't something else they weren't happy about? I've seen management get on people for nonsense just to get them to leave and dealing with the real problem would be uncomfortable or too much work.
Be careful about switching jobs too much. It doesn't look good to future employers.

if i lived in Asia, i would not let myself lose an opportunity because of my whiteness/foreign-ness--i've lived in America all my life and have seen asians come over and get all the opportunities for education/employment (and get paid just as much or more) as whites in america...why shouldn't whites living in Asia be offered the same deal(?) English teachers r helping the whole society out by giving kids an invaluable skill-set....hate to see the social immaturity/insularity of some asians

Asians tend to be in the better spectrum than other ethnic minorities in the west because of their education, but that doesn't mean they are incorporated into the mainstream society completely. Asians always suffer a "bamboo ceiling" for their career because of their ethnicities.
