Actually, the job is what the Vice President makes of it. The Constitution is very brief in the role of the VP. In essence, the VP is the backup quarterback. If the President goes down in the 3rd quarter, or if the game is basically over going into the 4th quarter, and they send in the VP.
And as far as the Senate, the VP can't debate, true, but the VP CAN legally meet with Senators and "establish policy" as the voice of the President. Thanks for the Palin bashing.

Anyway, the Alaska Army National Guard are a component of the United States Army, controlled on a federal level. Tucker Bounds was not able to give *one* example of a decision Palin has made exercising military or strategic power over the Alaskan National Guard. In that, you are correct. The vice president does just about nothing unless there is a tie in the senate. However, the title of President of the Senate remains with the VP, regardless of whether or not he/she is doing anything of value to earn the paycheck.

US Constitution Art 1 Sec 3 Clause 4, "The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided." No other duties for the Vice President are defined by the Constitution. They do not get involved in the policy making.

As it is clearly defined in the Constitution, Article 1, Section 3, Clause 4 provides that the VP only presides over the Senate in that there is a casting vote or overseeing procedural matters. Actually, the job is what the Vice President makes of it. The Constitution is very brief in the role of the VP. In essence, the VP is the backup quarterback. If the President goes down in the 3rd quarter, or if the game is basically over going into the 4th quarter, and they send in the VP.
And as far as the Senate, the VP can't debate, true, but the VP CAN legally meet with Senators and "establish policy" as the voice of the President. Thanks for the Palin bashing.
