The cause of lost knowledge is the breakdown in the late roman empire and the european feudal states having no capacity to preserve the knowledge. The middle east did, they preserved it as such. The early christian church lacked the power to destroy that many works. (That changed later. Obviously).

Castle building techniques requires more than a little of both engineering and math for example. The cause of lost knowledge is the breakdown in the late roman empire and the european feudal states having no capacity to preserve the knowledge. The middle east did, they preserved it as such. The early christian church lacked the power to destroy that many works. (That changed later. Obviously).

Castle building techniques requires more than a little of both engineering and math for example.
