  • haha Dell mini 9 WINS!!

  • why would you compare an HDD for to an SSD, that makes no sense

  • @fiveryanfrenzy More like ~$1k vs ~$400.

  • somthing is messed up with your mac book air mine turns on in just less than 15 seconds

  • This particular Macbook Air does not have SSD. If it did, it would be as quick as the Dell Mini 9.

  • Mac rools

  • @CampKillYourself5432

    Hackintosh rules!

  • you bastard you infested a pc with an apple operating system

  • best commercial for SSD ((:

  • macbook air sucks....

  • @curryeater259

    All macs suck!

  • the dell only 1 cause the SSD

  • @TheTechAnimal The MacBook Air has built in flash memory, which is supposedly faster than SSD.

  • the macbook air the screen is crooked which leads me to believe this is fake.

  • @packers4evr100

    Its the camera angle!

  • OMFG. ok I BUILD COMPUTERS FOR A SIDE JOB FOR A LIVING..I KNOW HOW FAST EVEN A DAMN OCZ REVODRIVE X2 BOOTS UP LET ALONE THE 1ST AND 2ND GEN SSD'S WITH THE SHITTY MICRON controller inside. ANY COMPUTER deskotp or laptop that boots in less than 10 seconds INCLUDING post, bios, the o.s and teh READY TO WORK DESKTOP screen..IS WAKING FROM SLEEP OR HIBERNATION and it WASN'T completely shut down. GET FUCK OVER YOURSELVES. I KNOW THIS SHIT FROM EXPERIENCE.I deal with it EVERY DAY. YOU LOST. THE END.

  • @chronofusion Well honestly you must do a piss poor job building your computers if you think that is too fast for any computer to be possible.. you should take a look at this video "Blazing Fast MacBook Air Speed Tests" the laptop was timed at 13 seconds booting, it wakes from sleep almost instantly or in about 1 or 2 seconds, and shuts down in less than 3 seconds... get a life dude

  • @joeblack112 MORON..the argument was and i quote YOUR exact words.." my new macbook air 13.3 boots up completely in about 5 seconds average" THERE IS NO PREBUILT NOR custom built laptop or desktop COMPUTER( unless you have more than 50,000.00 in the bank account & access to some kind of government owned or ran secret computer shop" can boot FROM TURNED OFF TO FULLY READY DESKTOP in 5 seconds. THA'TS CALLED "WAKING UP FROM SLEEP OR HIBERNATE" do some research and you wont look like a fucktard.

  • yeah..you're macbook PROBABLY DOES awaken in 3 seconds maybe 2.5. THAT I AGREE WITH..THAT IS REALISTIC. do ya know WHY? I've SEEN and HAND TIMED IT MYSELF in the apple store. THAT i can agree with and believe. I test this shit for a living kid. when ya grow up. and get over the fact that someone EXPERIENCED know more about computers than you do. You'll realize that this argument was over before you even opened ya big defeated mouth.( 1st thing the loser does is insult the winner.) done.

  • TAKE THAT APPLE!! (still loving the ipod they are awsome)

  • Of course the problem is hdd speed vs sdd speed...

why don't u compare them after the boot up? I mean, load 2 programs, let's say, garageband, in both and compare their cpu and memory performance ;)

by the way, i wonder what u gonna do with only 16gb of disk space =/

  • Hi! What's the name of that background song?

  • how did you get leopard on it?!??!?!! :OOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Comment removed

  • the dell mini is using a standard laptop hard drive- 2.5" and the macbook air hard drive was only 1.8" the dell's drive out preforms the original macbook air's hard drive. that's why they went to only ssd

  • Do all the peripherals work on the dell?

  • my new macbook air 13.3 boots up completely in about 5 seconds average.. its ridiculously fast... and I'm not an apple fanboy in any way, in fact it's my first mac basically bought it for the looks but it's turning up to be a pretty amazing machine... my main computers are a Dell desktop pc and a HP 17" laptop which is a real powerhouse... that being the macbook air is definitely worth a try.. i don't regret for a single moment getting this

  • @joeblack112 now obviously you're wrong about your computer booting in 5 seconds average. when a person BOOTS UP a computer..* windows, linux based, or apple o.s.' based" booting begins when you push the power on button on the device or computer itself..and ends when the complete desktop is fully loaded and ready to work. the only possible way you could be telling the truth REMOTELY coherently..is if you were meaning to say.." it wakes up from hibernate or sleep mode in 5 seconds" nice try

  • @chronofusion

Nice try? try for what? I wasn't trying anything, just giving out information and feedback about my experience. And when I said BOOT UP I actually meant BOOT UP and not waking up from hibernate or sleep which the computer does almost instantly. I'm no computer expert nor claiming to be one, the only thing I know is that the desktop fully loads and is ready to work and use like you mention in less than 10 seconds, anyways, think what you like and have a nice day

  • @joeblack112 ftr->10 year CUSTOM gaming pc builder that has satisfed more than 40 customers. I custom built all my computers (* except the macbook air *( new gen made and sold in 2011 with the samsung ssd they put in it). One has a 7200 rpm hdd, 4 core amd 3.0 athlon cpu ddr800 ram win xp 32 bit, and the last has my gaming machine 3.7gh phenom 6 core ddr 1600 ram, mushkin callisto deluxe ssd. from pushing power button to fully loading win 7 pro 64 bit desktop=28 seconds. I'm not bullshitable

  • what you have just do to your macbook air?!!! OMG my macbook start like in 10 - 13 seconds =O!!!

  • poor comparison, SDD is allways going to boot faster...have SDD in both and you will see the mac beat the dell hands down.

  • " sdd" you mean "ssd" & you're incorrect.boot up speed DEPENDS on many things. Put a mushkin callisto deluxe ssd in TWO EXACTLY THE SAME notebook computers (same cpu, gpu, bios version, type, update date.etc, battery life. ac power cord plugged in..all same settings) & SAME o.s. THEY WILL boot exactly same time if power button is pressed exactly same time. But mushkin callisto deluxe & kingston value ssd=DIFFERENT 4k read & write speeds. mushkin WILL STOMP IT. samsung probably will too.

  • Macbook air is nothing much than a crappy laptop, I don't see the reason buying a Macbook or something for Apple with mac os x leopard, I can simply install it on my much stronger laptop or pc

  • Take that macbook air!!!

  • burn the witch!

  • i like them music in the backround lol:P also im sure the people singing that song probably never seen a computer b4 though lol.

  • cause of the SSD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! put a ssd in the mac and see it kick the dell's ass

  • @coolman593 the new macbook air uses Flash memory... its def faster than the dell. thing is, i don't think it's the same as SSD... but whatever, i think u get my point?

  • @coolman593 butthurt?

  • Scientific... The Dell has an SSD. You are a retard who knows nothing about computers.

  • scientific. The Dell has an SSD. you are a retard.

  • scientific.

  • 80 GB laptop hard drive typically has sequential read/write speed of less than 30 MB/sec, which is very slow by any standards. And random read performance is going to be really terrible.

  • how the heck did you get leopard on Dell?

  • @an9707 you have to do hackintosh

  • @toughguitar1 how do u install hackintosh?

  • @an9707 look it up on youtube

  • That's not a fair comparison, since the Dell has an SSD, of course it will be faster

  • @backlyt Not fair if you want it to be fair then lets put it up against my D620 (42 sec. desktop loaded from pushing the power switch) specs: core 2 duo @1.66 1 gb ram, 60 gb hd...

  • HDDs will be ancient technology very soon.

  • @dinnerandashow you can get ssd for mac its not hard you just customize it on the site

  • @dinnerandashow Not to sure about that with the use of HHD in desktops and back-ups and cost effectiveness.

  • @tylerhamlet SSD is allways the way to go!

  • the mac is not ssd its HDD

  • @RedCodeStudios It says that in the description ??? lol

  • Look at the description. Dell=16gb SSD Macbook Air=80gb HDD

  • @lonelykatana to me it looks like you want to say that (even) the dell mini is faster than the macbook air... :)

  • the Dell mini is just that fast because of its SSD harddrive..

  • @pcfreak1992 2:32 Keep listening... You'll hear it.

  • Kumbayah, lalala ...

  • @cpapagia the dell still won......

  • I just bought one of those Dells. I have a MBP Unibody and a 15" Gen 1 MBP and intend to mount this one in my vehicle to augment my iPod/Alpine/Focal Honda Element, and run a rooted Droid WiFi hotspot. SO excited I found one on eBay since Dell discontinued the 10v.

  • Mac Air is a slow piece of shit.

  • a: dell has ssd

b: you have configured the dell to use leopard and in doing so it does go faster

c: is the ram 667mhz on the macbook air and is the ram on the dell 1066 mhz

    thumbs up if you agree......................

  • I think this video was made on Africa, great background music

  • the macbook air is a shrinked construction of all the other. 1.6-1.8Ghz

    And slower ram

  • my mac pro is soooooo much faster than both of those

  • it depend on how long u used ur pc

  • remember the Dell mini 9 is a way newer computer with a ssd drive.

  • This si not a fair comparison be cause of the slow hard drive. I have the new macbook air with the SSD drive and it loads way faster than this. A fair comparison would be the new macbook air with the SSD drive.

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM OSX does not have TRIM support for SSDs yet, and the standard Air does not ship with a SSD, not to mention that this is being compared to the barebones base Dell Mini 9 which sold for under $300 at the time of the review and can fit in a girl's purse.

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM I think it's just doing a price comparison, I understand what you're saying, but to make it really fair, I think both should have even specs, not a $1000 laptop vs a $300 netbook.

  • hahaha how do u like them apples :D

  • @willz131285 LMAO

  • Pc power

  • @younowme424 And if we get SSD into that Macbook and HD into that Dell, the results will be exactly the opposite. What's your point? It's like comparing BMW 525 VS BMW M5. Both looks similar, but one is the fastest 4-door sedan with like 500 bhp, the other one is slow.

  • @bathellfire Yeah, but by buying Dell Mini, you basically get cheaper car that runs faster.

  • is cuz the SSD!, but still the mac cost like 999x more lol

  • You can't compare SSD and HDD you fool!

  • does startup time really matter???

    Let's see some performance tests....

  • Damn, how do you add a hackintosh on a Dell? I have an inspiron and wanna add OSX. I know it's been around for a long time, but any tips on how to do it would be appreciated.

  • Id still rather the Mac.

  • Yah... but the Macbook Air sucks. The Macbook Pro kills the shit out of both.

  • lmao, macbook air got owned by a laptop half its size!

  • mac <3

  • Dell have SSD, the macbook air is the HDD version. Cant compare dude.

  • Linux would load even faster :p. The atom is really slow anyway , why would anyone run photoshop on it, especially on the mini with 9/10 inch screen?

  • This isn't an average mac boot on an air. you should run disk utils on it or take it into a service center to have apple hardware diagnostics ran on the system. This is bizar

  • LOL hackintosh is faster than mac

  • @ahacksor because i have a dell and it takes 40 seconds to boot-up

  • dell will never get fast cumputers

DELL IS A PILE OF FAIL

  • why? you must have reason behind your thoughts, so why is dell so bad?

  • HAHA CUM-Puters You sick kid

  • ??????????????????? ah u sicko

  • I guess you have never used a Dell XPS

  • well of course the dell will be faster look at that thick thing !

  • lol @ pissed off mac fanboys

  • This is a ridiculous comparison. The MBA has a 1.8" drive and the Mini 9 has a SSD.

  • One could argue its a ridiculous comparison considering the huge price difference between the devices. At the time of the comparison, the M9 was approximately 1/6th the price of the Air, yet because of the better drive choice, most regular tasks were massively bottlenecked by the poor drive choice on the Air.

The Air is available w/ an SSD, but we're then talking closer to ~ $2K vs $200 now, and OSX 10.6 still doesn't include TRIM support for SSDs.

  • The only way to have a fair test would've been for the two machines to have as similar components as possible. Or, he could've swapped the drives in the two machines and compared boot times again.

  • If they had the exact same components and were both running OSX, there would be no difference in performance. *facepalm* xD

The point of the video is just showing that for regular everyday tasks, the $1500 Macbook Air is severely bottlenecked by its harddrive, and a far cheaper and arguably more portable M9 outperforms it because of this fact.

There is a $1800 SSD model available, but point is:

    1) Last gen cheapo netbooks make great ultra-portable hakintoshes

    2) NEVER EVER buy the base MBA.

  • Macs are NOTHING. I'm not sure why they go for $1500. My Alienware IS something. Macs are NOTHING and a pile of CRAP.

  • MacBook Air has HDD, while the netbook got SSD. If you try any laptop, be it a pc or mac, even if it costs $4000+, if it doesn't have SSD, the netbook with SSD will prvail at bootup/application launch times...

  • it's not the same spec.if you want to test you have to test with ssd both of them. don't be dum.

  • Its not, but the Mini 9 w/ a 16gig at the outlet is around $250-300. The Macbook Air starts at $1500 with the regular drive.

That means that you could buy SIX Mini9s, one for each family member in a different color, for the cost of one Air, and its smaller footprint is easier to fit in a small bag or purse. And for people that aren't just doing light computing, a regular Macbook makes more sense anyway.

  • MacBook Air.. thrown out the window.. :))

  • nope you wish the MBA needs an SSD o make it fair

  • ssd vc hdd = no way!

Test a macbook air with ssd....

  • @extremesony True, but its pretty painfully obvious that the $270 netbook offers better overall performance than the standard $1800 Air thanks to the horrible drive bottleneck, I think thats the point. While the Air can be ordered w/ SSD, its even MORE expensive, still not as portable, and OSX still doesn't have TRIM support nor SSD optimizations yet.

  • screen size counts for boot time haha this guy only reads email and powerpoint presentations haha

  • this video never gets old for me =)

  • and i thought dell was shit...

but i kknow that mac os's are shit! windows ftw!

  • Try a Mac with an SSD instead of an old-fashioned HDD...

  • OSX 10.6 STILL does not have TRIM support, so your SSD will have a shortened life span and more importantly performance will gradually degrade.

To date, only Windows 7 and Linux have integrated SSD optimization.

  • the reason the dell started up quicker is becos the dell has an ssd but the macbook has an hdd and ssd's are considerably faster than hdd's so this isnt a very fair contest!

  • nigger song...

  • @ombattalion

    hahahha

  • u racist if you are i will hurt you so hard

  • i have a macbook pro 13inch and a dell mini 10v and the macbook boots faster but its 2.26ghz vs 1.6ghz

  • macbook air is so stupid, netbooks are better. its like the difference between a sheet of paper and a deck of playing cards, paper is this but so what, u would need a large folder

  • looks like you really offended the mac lovers here lol

i have the mini10v with mac os on

  • this is bullshit how about you put a ssd in the air before you call it slow.

  • u KITTED up dat dell, please tell me how u did it. i got the same laptop

  • its not akit its osx86

  • Useless test, put in both computers a solid state drive and then do the test again. now its obvious the dell wins,

  • lol true

  • SSSSSSSSSSSSSAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDD

  • no, YOU obviously dont know anything about computers. screen size doesnt make it start up slower! a smaller hard drive? how would that change anything. yes the dell has a ssd but its not the capacity that does makes it faster. maybe you should check your facts before you go and say "well he must have rigged it!" maybe the macbook air just sucks

  • boot time has nothing to do with real-world performance, and you for sure cant judge how much a computer sucks by how fast it boots. hell, even my 8-year-old iMac G4 boots faster than my brand new macbook pro! you think the iMac is going to be faster when its actually working? "think before you speak." --some guy that was right.

  • Hahahahahahahah good try

  • Screen size and hard drive space do not account for how fast the computer boots. You sir, are an idiot. Thanks for ruining my day.

  • lol idiot. screen size has nothing to do with.. omg just stop lmfao

  • If you didn't know this is so not fair. First of all MacBook Air is not the fastest laptop, it's super thin! Get one of those Adamo and then try it. Second of all you sure probably filled the Mac with junk.

  • Full of it. What's with lion king music?

  • still don't know why anyone would need a macbook air when they can buy a macbook pro... I mean 15' macbook pros are so light you can easily lift it with one hand (if you are a guy at least) and they are pretty slim too...

  • wow thats amazingly slow boot time, i guess im used to my macbook, its almost instant boot time

  • like the saga of rich man vs geek

  • MacBook Air HDD is 1.8 inch (same in iPod classic and HDD camcorders), and spins at 4200 rpm and it has transfer rate less than 20 MB/s

  • my macbook air with 160 gb solid state hd load fast just like the dell mini 9 on the video, but little faster than that.

  • What really stands out with a mac is the great design. Except this the product policy is based on manipulation and greed!

  • nice choice on the background song

    i enjoyed

  • god this video sure does piss off that mac loyalist lol

On a serious note though, apple is way over priced. That is one of the main reasons I shall never own any mac product; second is compatibility. I own a pc because I love to build systems and upgrade with ease. I do fancy the streamlined experience on mac os though; I cannot stand spending time with windows tweaking for better efficiency.

  • im glad you presented your point well. I am a mac user, and believe they are a little bit overpriced, but it doesnt stop me from buying them, i actually hope they dont get cheap one day because they will start becoming "cheap". the build quality is incredible on every mac ive owned

  • you use ssd for one notebook and use HDD on the macbook air

  • dell rocks with or without ssd!

  • uhm...you're comparing a system with an SSD to one without....bullshit test

  • yeah but the air has an extra CORE ither way dude fuck i like the idea of a cheapish osX machine with a style maybe im crazy but i like the low keyness of the netbook the other one is so flashy

  • it doesn't matter, a SSD will boot faster than a Hard drive 10/10 times

  • thats stupid of course it wont the ssd helps but a slow processor wont be able to keep pace with a ssd an i7 with a 15,000 rpm would boot in no time hd speeds are not that crucial too boot time i blame this on a mix the ssd helps but i think lepord is poorly opitized for dual cores

  • Hard drive speed means how fast data can be accessed. The faster the drive, the quicker an OS can boot, and data can be read, written, and deleted.

  • true but processor is what deals with the information and so processor is also crucial

  • This is a completely legit test. The Dell comes with a SSD STANDARD and the MBA standard drive is a HDD.

  • @cpapagia

That is true, but it is also a comparison of a $1500 machine with a $300 machine.

  • @cpapagia so wait, you paid 1000s of dollars, and it doesn't have ssd?

  • Comment removed

  • well, now to the pirate bay for OSX lol

  • What the hell have you got installed on the MacBook Air to make it startup so slowly?

This is a totally unfair & useless comparison as you're not testing like with like.

    Thumbs down

  • Bullshit comparison

  • my mum has a dell mini 9 i have a e-system 3090uk

  • Jeeez your macbook air sucks. Must be a 4800rpm hdd vs a ssd. Unfair comparison. (nice hackintosh tough)

  • I'm typing this on my mini 9 with leopard. this thing is awesome. the keyboard sucks though

  • Test is worthless. You would need to compare fresh install to fresh install. Who knows what the mac is starting on init.

  • That's far less important a factor than the fact that the MacBook Air probably has a traditional harddrive versus the Dell's SSD.

  • You cannot beat flash memory with classic hard drive. Need quick start-up, buy SSD. SImple.

  • Actually not simple. SSD is best for read and boot but has sever write lag especial with larger files and fragmentation. Compared to current prices the ROI is still not there even against the 4800rpm HD. .

  • I do not deny it. SSD is lot more expensive, and writing to it may take longer under some circumstances. However for short start-up time SSD is way better, and this is exactly what i claimed.
