i just remembered something.along time ago someone told me that hedge apples would keep rodents away. but i never tried it. i didn't realize that moth balls can cause cancer. i should have known that because just about everything has that warning now days...
i wonder if you could put the moth balls in water.and put the water in a spray bottle.
and just carefully mist parts of the engine compartment.if this would work you could use it around the house. even though it might not last as long...
You are right about the moth balls, they do work great. But please read the back of the box. They are harmful to humans...toxic and cancer causing. I love my vehicles, but not that much. I'm looking for an alternative. I'm looking at the peppermint oil or some other alternative. Either mice or ground squirrels started eating the firewall insulation inside the engine cab. It seems like when I left it outside, I had less problems. Good video, though. Just read the label before use.
@sk8terboi16josh, Well I know this very well, if you look at my video, I place the moth balls OUTSIDE of the air filter and I put them into the air intake, but NO way in hell would they get inside the engine.
Of course if you did not have the air filter in there than you would get them in the throttle body, who in their right mind would run a car or truck without an air filter anyways.
I also place them on top of the engine, again NO way would they ever get inside the engine.
Hello ol' buddy :) Thanks for the tip. I think I'll plop one of those suckers under my wifes seat and see how long it takes for her to say something :) When I worked at a car dealer, a lady brought a car in that when you turn on the fan the whole dash shook . turned out to be a walnut logged in the sqiurrel cage blades///take care my friend ///Ken
too bad they can't get a dead mouse out of your heating ducts :P I'll remember that for next time I store a vehicle. the old remidies always work the best!
Hi coolblue, Once they are dead and stuck in the heating duct, I have used a small video camera like the X-10 and a small flashlight and using a video monitor you may see where the dead mouse is and you may be able to reach it.
does not work it made it worst for use
Purman99 2 months ago
@Purman99 It should work as long as the moth ball smell is still there, but the heat of the engine will cause the math balls to disolve.
I found a bettr thing to use.
You get it at your hardware store, pepperment/spearment, they come in 4 cloth bags the product is called: Mouse Magic made by BONIDE, it WORKS!
I have one bag in my truck engine carpment for over 3 weeks, NO mice.

@MrOne2watch, I don't think that would work, you need the strong smell of the moth balls, if you water it down it will not do any good.

Bill, I've never had mice problems, but how do you get rid of skunks? I have a family of nine under my shed. Jerry
jc6154 2 years ago
Hi Jerry, I don't know, I am no expert but you could try throwing a lot of moth balls under the shed and RUN....hee hee.
I wished I knew Jerry, you may have to ask some in animal control.
Thanks for stopping by.

I'll just trust the moth balls. I don't care for cats.
hillbilly482 2 years ago
Hi Hillbilly, I love cats, we have a 16 lb loveable tom cat that stays inside all the time.
Cats are good for getting mice but I would not want to keep one inside the car.

Hi C.W., The problem happens mostly in cold weather and the mice want to keep warm, but even in warm weather I still use them.
