After what Hardcore Holly did to that Matt kid who was on the same season of TE as Morrison, I'd call what Puder did during this 2004 TE FAIR GAME. Honestly, I understand the wrestling industry is the wrestling industry.. but it's great to see a WWE star school'd
I believe it was a shoot amateur wrestling match. Not a profesional wrestling match or MMA exhibition. What I'm trying to say is that Puder shouldn't have even done a submission maneuver since that isn't the objective of amateur wrestling. As many people have said, Puder just wanted a quick rise to fame by making an unexpecting kurt tap on national television.
@MrHazer94 If you knew MMA you would know that the neck crank Angle put on Chris Nawrocki is also a MMA hold. So Puder had a legit reason to use the kimura lock.
i dont think daniel puder can be considered an mma "expert" considering he never did shit and left to try to be a sports entertainer unlike lesner who left to be a mma fighter
the guy in the blue shorts is actuly a MMA expert. the reff had to stop the match because puder nealy broke kurts arm, and that wasnt in the script for kurt to lose. so the reff counted 1 2 3, because he knew kurt wasnt sopose to lose.
as a matter of fact, to all these "puder won" morons, it was a wrestling challenge. Not pro wrestling either. Only a one count was necessary. And his shoulders were down for the solid 3 count. And Angle didnt tap while his shoulders were down. Anyone with eyes can see that Angle won. Heroic effort by puder, but he lost the wrestling match.
Daniel Puder is such a tool. He had talent, but he threw it all away with this bonehead move right here. Angle would have kicked his ass if it were a legitimate fight.
The Tough Enough contestants weren't under contract by WWE. Daniel Puder wasn't ordered to do a scripted finish. I give credit to Angle for his toughness, but he has more guts than brains. He shouldn't have challenged the contestants to a legit competition if he hadn't prepared for what might happen.
Not sure where to stand on this, on the one hand they should not have set up Angle for a shoot match with an un-experienced wrestler, on the other Puder should've have stuck to the general rules of the ring.
In either case I think this could help explain why Puder was only given a mighty brief run in the WWE and mostly made a mockery of, even though he was the Tough Enough champion
shit like this ruins wrestling. It made Angle look weak and it could have hurt him. when the guy who is jobbing refuses to sell it's stupid. This is a show, not a sport and an athlete getting real on a performer is just bullshit
if u really think that this is a "retarded" ending. then, your an idiot. that is right there called REAL wrestling... i mean i know u want to see chokeslams and shit.
@yourM0th3r we all know that idiot, its retarded cuz Puder had angle in a submission hold (arm bar or something) and he couldve broken angle's arm, instead cuz puder was with his back on the floor the referee counted, hence saving angle's arm.
@Noctis411 i mean the takedowns that Puder used are actual wrestling takedowns. not that wwe close line shit. i dont mind wwe, i only see it as a theater thats it. they do stunts and all, but its not a real sport. so message to all wwe fans, sorry for destroying your dreams, but santa is not real.
Yeah but you still have to know the moves to get in the ring. No big, buffed up guy can just get in the ring and know the moves that the WWE superstars know.
i get puder wanting to make an impact, but you don't go and put a guy in a legit kimura which could break his arm, just because you weren't looking too good. that's downright arrogant by puder. this is a testiment to how tough angle is, who not only didn't tap but rolled over puder to get the pin (even though his shoulders were not technically down, angle compromised brilliantly to an asshole move by puder)
@SCD999 Actually the kimura wasn;t fully extended. And by the time it was, the refs were saving Angle's but. Considering there were no previously stated rules to this "match", what Puder did was completely acceptable and would have won if it was a legitimate ADCC match.
@mastersonic4 Angle through the challende out there and Puder took him up on it. There were no rules set, therefore Puder would have won because Angle would not have been able to continue.
@SCD999 The funnt thing is, I remember how this all started. Angle set up some sort of physical exercise contest, and said there'd be a prize for the winner. When the winner emerged, Angle told the exhausted competitior the prize was a match against him, and then jumped him and kicked his ass. For me, Puder had every right to wrestle Angle properly and try to tap him out with a submission hold. And it won him that edition of Tough Enough.
Angle is a legit tough guy.Id like to see an NFL/NBA/MMA star do their job for 2 weeks while having a broken neck(no Im not talking about the Olympics,I mean the WWE schedule)
@SweetWhiskerz You don't don't know much about broken necks do you? If you have a broken neck you are paralyzed. If you can still work WWE schedule you don't have a broken neck.
just to clear it up, puder and angle both went onto btls to settle it, turns out puder was told shoot fight, angle was told worked shoot fight, so jurt wanted it to look real but not be real and puder was being a dick
@laxi1015 puder IS A DICK...he has no charisma or workable personality...which is why even tho he beat Miz for the Tough Enough thing,Miz still got in....Puder disappeared after a)claiming he's gonna win the royal Rumble and b)being the first asshole eliminated!
I never heard them say it was an amateur wrestling match. And IF they did and Puder Did Break the rules then he would have been dq'd from the competition.
@1MoreRoundbrother They didnt make the rules clear, but they could not have made it a shoot wrestling match, it would have had bigger chance of injury. Kurt Angle said it was supposed to be an amateur wrestling match in his shoot interview. Well, either that or Kurt was misinformed. Anyway, keep in mind that Kurt was injured at that time and had it been a shoot wrestling match and he was well informed about it, Kurt would have tried for the ankle lock in both matches
1. This is supposed to be an amateur wrestling match for "legitimacy" of the match, otherwise Kurt Angle would have gone for the Ankle Lock instead of working his opponent(s) to the mat.
2. In an am-wrestling match, a Kimura is illegal hold.
3. In an am-wrestling match, only a one count is needed. The ref made a three count with the first two counts, Puder's shoulders were off the mat, but on the third count it was correct as Puder got himself pinned.
@kriegpaolo You just wasted your time typing all of that, it wasn't an Amateur Wrestling match. It was a shoot match, even Kurt Angle has said that it was.
The Lock wasn't illegal and a three count was needed.
It seems "those idiots" aren't idiots at all and you are the one who doesn't understand.
@caemawred Nope. Kurt Angle said in his shoot interview that it was an amateur wrestling match. Otherwie, Kurt would have gone for his leg takedown (his fave am wrestling move) and try to lock in the Ankle Lock in both matches. Instead he tries to wrestle both men to the ground.
@kriegpaolo No he said it's a shoot fight, McMahon told him to go out there and do a shoot fight with them.
You can't just go and decide "i'm going to use my fav' takedown" and actually pull it off there and then, it's not a video game and Kurt wasn't the Olympic medalist he used to be, he moved him to the corner and tried to get him down from there so he didn't risk injury.
This wasn't the only shoot, there was another prior and Angle broke the guys ribs, the whole thing shouldnt have happend
@caemawred well I heard from his RF interview that he said it was supposed to be an amateur wrestling match. Either that or Kurt Angle was misinformed. Either way, had he known it was a shoot fight, he would not have tried to WRESTLE THE GUY to the ground like it was an amateur wrestling match.
I know pulling off the move isnt that easy, but he could have at least tried doing it, like he would in the Olympics. I know Kurt won lots of pins with the help of that move.
@Rimbaud1531 TBQH I dont recall Kurt trying to apply a crossface, all I remembered was that Kurt basically used amateur style moves to try and wrestle the other guy to the mat for an easy pin
I remember this. It was 2004 and Angle was yelling at him and pointing to his arm "you almost broke my arm!" Sadly this was also when I voted for The Miz after he had the "boxing" bout with Puder at Armaggedon 2004.
I find it funny how the crowd back in 2004 had no idea what a Kimura was. I wonder if after 6 years of the UFC becoming popular, if the crowd would react in 2010? Puder also did it Sakuraba style. Angle had his back and he turned into it just like Sakuraba did to Renzo Gracie.
This was a complete mess of an angle. They told Kurt it was an amateur rules match, but told Puder that submissions counted. So Kurt is understandably upset. Quick thinking by the ref to count him, even if his shoulders weren't down, because Angle was properly caught.
To his credit, Angle wanted to make a storyline from this, and give Puder a push. However, this was completely ignored by management and never mentioned again.
I'm still not sure what kind of match was supposed to be... MMA, amateur wrestling or pro wrestling? Angle and Puder both say it was supposed to be something different... Well Puder went for MMA anyway..
That's not really a retarded ending considering it was under pro wrestling rules and Angle did have him pinned (even though I'm pretty sure the ref jumped in to save Angle from having his arm obliterated.)
technically his arm was gonna be broken. but its was a amateur wrestling match and puder pinned himself. the ref counted till three and puder kicked out right before 3 but that didnt matter coz in a real wrestling match u dont get 3 seconds.
Whats the point of arguing, Kurt could do ok in mma with his wrestling skills but his stand up wouldn't be good, he'd have to train alot to work on that, and even then he wouldn't just come in and beat everyone it'd take alot of work, i think he he got into mma instead of the wwe, he could have been one of the best mma fighters with a lot of training...
but its sensless to argue because with his neck the way it is, he's not going to go into mma, and risk paralysation or death
i don't know what the big deal about this is. sure puder had angle in a key lock, but they were having a wrestling match and angle had puder down for the 3 count. the refs didn't do anything shady to protect angle.
however if this were an mma fight, puder would have made angle tap out. but i'm sure angle would have had a different strategy in fighting puder in an MMA environment.
wholefnshow1, I hope you realise that most MMA fighters would've tapped out within seconds of that hold being applied, and Puder's shoulders weren't down on the mat, but despite that, Jimmy Korderas made the count because that hold threatend Kurt's wellbeing.
but angle didn't tap out did he? by the time puder had full pressure for the kumura, his shoulders were already down for 2 counts...angle just had to hold out for one more second.
Actually Puder was kicked out for doing this, Kurt Angle or any other fighter once locked in a perfectly executed kimura have no way of escaping and they either forfeit or get their arm broken.
Backstage Kurt was pissed because he had nearly ruined his tv persona by tapping out to an amateur.
Actually Kurt Angle was not going to actually break out of it because he couldn't. So the refree's stopped it because it was either Kurt tapped or Puder broke the hold
Why the hell would you say it's Dolph Ziggler? 0_o [And for you 2 love birds going on about Kurt tapping and stuff, SHUT UP. Since the match was done while the move was being attempted (not to mention Daniel knows not to hurt Kurt), we'll never know if Kurt would've tapped or not so don't even bother with assumptions]
its not actually Dolph Ziggler its just that he opens his hand to out introduce himself "Hello my name is Dolph Ziggler" or something like that and it kind of looks like him too.
0_o I never said it was him, I'm just saying to Pith191 why would he ask if Puder is Ziggler, especially when he just said 2 completely different people.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Give me a thumbs up if u think wrestling wud be better if it was a real legit sport. and also give me a bonus if u think the wrestling world wud be a better place without vince. and another if u agree that vince and his whole family suks ass and are inbred scum the mcmahon family SUKS!!! thums up YEAHH
the incident actually was that daniel puder had locked angle in a mma lock called the kimura that if he applied it long enough he wouldve broken angles arm so they had to stop the match in some way how can u call him an idiot
I usually disagree with most yer vids, but that was classic, anyone with half a brain can see that Angle just got spanked in front of the whole world.
This guy was destined for a good WWE career. He actually won the 4th 'Tough Enough' TV Show to earn a contract for WWE, but he pretty much screwed it up by applying a real MMA hold that would have snapped Kurts arm off if the ref hadnt have pretended that Angle pinned Puder.
It wasn't an MMA match it was an amateur wrestling match which if you look Puder's shoulders are pinned. Puder is a jackass I'm not in the mma vs pro wrestling debate I like both equally. but everyone argues about it and it wasn't an mma fight.
Your right it wasn't an MMA match, IT WAS A GRAPPLING MATCH meaning submissions are allowed what the hell do you get out of amateur wrestling? Hugging someone so much that their shoulders touch the mat and what do submissions do? Make your opponent beg for mercy, cry like a little bitch, and even snap off a limb or put them to sleep its not pro wrestling vs MMA its wrestling vs jiujitsu and this proves jiujitsu is more effective I actually want to learn these holds now
well u forget tna had there mma style match wit joe n angle, also i thought he's shoulders was down, watcin again however the right shoulder wasn't down,it would of been great to see angle tap lmfao
Puder (not a big name in fighting) was beating Kurt Angle (the only recognised olympic gold medalist gone pro) with a legit (and fucking painful hold, take my word for it) MMA hold, and the ref counted 3 for the sake of angles reputation even though his shoulders CLEARLY weren't down.
it was a stupidly planned out thing to start, what exactly did they expect puder to do? he hadn't really had training in wrestling, they hadn't planned out a match, so what else was he gonna do? they didnt plan a work backstage, so they were fucked to start with.

It's a good thing the ref realized the kimura or else Angle's arm would have snapped.
freakchic9 1 year ago
I'd heard the stories about this, and never actually seen it. Daniel Puder, you are a fuckin' legend!
azapro911 1 year ago
Angle getting owned by a rookie = priceless lol
KennedyMrKennedy 1 year ago
That's not really a retarded ending considering it was under pro wrestling rules and Angle did have him pinned (even though I'm pretty sure the ref jumped in to save Angle from having his arm obliterated.)
CombatSportFan 1 year ago 2
if u look, puder's right shoulder is not on the mat.
srw15 1 year ago
Still it's a smart way to end the match since they had to save Angle, and 99% of the crowd wouldn't notice the shoulder like that.
CombatSportFan 1 year ago 3
@srw15 only need one tap.. it was amateur wrestling rules
DopeisBack 1 year ago
lol, Angle was like 2 or 3 seconds away from having a broken arm. The ref saved his life. This was just a mess.
ThaFlameofATown 2 years ago 3
technically his arm was gonna be broken. but its was a amateur wrestling match and puder pinned himself. the ref counted till three and puder kicked out right before 3 but that didnt matter coz in a real wrestling match u dont get 3 seconds.

haha he almost broke his arm off!!

Whats the point of arguing, Kurt could do ok in mma with his wrestling skills but his stand up wouldn't be good, he'd have to train alot to work on that, and even then he wouldn't just come in and beat everyone it'd take alot of work, i think he he got into mma instead of the wwe, he could have been one of the best mma fighters with a lot of training...
but its sensless to argue because with his neck the way it is, he's not going to go into mma, and risk paralysation or death
funksta818 2 years ago 2
@funksta818 And if he got into MMA and has to face Ken Shamrock, he's dead
gn0015 1 year ago
not if instead of starting wrestling after the olympics, he started training for mma

@gn0015 fuck MMA
DopeisBack 1 year ago
i don't know what the big deal about this is. sure puder had angle in a key lock, but they were having a wrestling match and angle had puder down for the 3 count. the refs didn't do anything shady to protect angle.
however if this were an mma fight, puder would have made angle tap out. but i'm sure angle would have had a different strategy in fighting puder in an MMA environment.
wholefnshow1 2 years ago 4
wholefnshow1, I hope you realise that most MMA fighters would've tapped out within seconds of that hold being applied, and Puder's shoulders weren't down on the mat, but despite that, Jimmy Korderas made the count because that hold threatend Kurt's wellbeing.
Jacko1153 2 years ago
but angle didn't tap out did he? by the time puder had full pressure for the kumura, his shoulders were already down for 2 counts...angle just had to hold out for one more second.

there goes his push.

SandManR95 2 years ago
Yes I know but he had to end the match.
ruaridh2k7 2 years ago
Actually Puder was kicked out for doing this, Kurt Angle or any other fighter once locked in a perfectly executed kimura have no way of escaping and they either forfeit or get their arm broken.
Backstage Kurt was pissed because he had nearly ruined his tv persona by tapping out to an amateur.
JBentes91 2 years ago
I was not kicked out for that, i left because of contract issues
pudersknockouts 2 years ago
Actually Kurt Angle was not going to actually break out of it because he couldn't. So the refree's stopped it because it was either Kurt tapped or Puder broke the hold
ruaridh2k7 2 years ago
@ruaridh2k7 The ref did the three count even though puder's shoulders didn't touch the ground
purtell6 2 years ago
@purtell6
its weird tho, kimura is a lock, angle shouldve tapped rather than the ref counting to 3, he proll didnt know what to do
rantanen1 2 years ago
I wouldve broken Angle's arm if i was Puder. Kurt ANgle was punking him.

puder does look like ziggler. is it him?
pith191 2 years ago
Why the hell would you say it's Dolph Ziggler? 0_o [And for you 2 love birds going on about Kurt tapping and stuff, SHUT UP. Since the match was done while the move was being attempted (not to mention Daniel knows not to hurt Kurt), we'll never know if Kurt would've tapped or not so don't even bother with assumptions]
Ascendency 2 years ago
its not actually Dolph Ziggler its just that he opens his hand to out introduce himself "Hello my name is Dolph Ziggler" or something like that and it kind of looks like him too.
SandManR95 2 years ago
0_o I never said it was him, I'm just saying to Pith191 why would he ask if Puder is Ziggler, especially when he just said 2 completely different people.

Puder is an idiot.
TheMachoMadness 2 years ago 2
the incident actually was that daniel puder had locked angle in a mma lock called the kimura that if he applied it long enough he wouldve broken angles arm so they had to stop the match in some way how can u call him an idiot
ouiy8ton 2 years ago
puder was an idiot cuz he pinned himself, it was an amatuer wrestling match
lepricon22 2 years ago
Angle said they wanted to do a big angle with him an Puder. But Puder was a total idiot in the wrestling ring to the point they had to kill it.

kdragon18 2 years ago
This guy was destined for a good WWE career. He actually won the 4th 'Tough Enough' TV Show to earn a contract for WWE, but he pretty much screwed it up by applying a real MMA hold that would have snapped Kurts arm off if the ref hadnt have pretended that Angle pinned Puder.
MaxButcher 2 years ago 3
It wasn't an MMA match it was an amateur wrestling match which if you look Puder's shoulders are pinned. Puder is a jackass I'm not in the mma vs pro wrestling debate I like both equally. but everyone argues about it and it wasn't an mma fight.
rossyboi20 2 years ago 3
Your right it wasn't an MMA match, IT WAS A GRAPPLING MATCH meaning submissions are allowed what the hell do you get out of amateur wrestling? Hugging someone so much that their shoulders touch the mat and what do submissions do? Make your opponent beg for mercy, cry like a little bitch, and even snap off a limb or put them to sleep its not pro wrestling vs MMA its wrestling vs jiujitsu and this proves jiujitsu is more effective I actually want to learn these holds now
mothercanuckers 2 years ago
i cant see why these is retarded i can say stupid but not retarded.
konacjetanak777 2 years ago
not retarded he pinned him n didn't tap out
ray2kill 2 years ago
Angle was saved by the ref. Everyone who didn't understand why it is Retarded , read:
1. Nobody wants MMA/UFC in pro wrestling.
2. Daniel Puder (The MMA Fighter) applied a LEGIT Kimura in Angle.
3. Puder's shoulders weren't down during the entire three count.
4. The refs saved Angle , because Puder could fuck his arm for real.
Enough reasons...
ScarsofEagle 2 years ago
well u forget tna had there mma style match wit joe n angle, also i thought he's shoulders was down, watcin again however the right shoulder wasn't down,it would of been great to see angle tap lmfao
ray2kill 2 years ago
really?
i thought everyone knew about this one.
Puder (not a big name in fighting) was beating Kurt Angle (the only recognised olympic gold medalist gone pro) with a legit (and fucking painful hold, take my word for it) MMA hold, and the ref counted 3 for the sake of angles reputation even though his shoulders CLEARLY weren't down.
goth1agw1omw 2 years ago 6
Bro, yes he was about to snap his arm but only because Angle expected a WRESTLING match not an MMA fight
topdoginthepin 2 years ago
it was a stupidly planned out thing to start, what exactly did they expect puder to do? he hadn't really had training in wrestling, they hadn't planned out a match, so what else was he gonna do? they didnt plan a work backstage, so they were fucked to start with.
goth1agw1omw 2 years ago 3
Ha, that was funny. Unfortunately, that moment is what killed the dude's chances of getting into WWE and making it.
