Because if Zefiris is the actual compressed physical vehicle, why do we see the uncompressed form flying around space right in the very end?

especially how short they are and how stylised it was with the really fast cuts and sudden motion. i thought all the characters were well written, if a little unoriginal, however they were all excellently written, with the dialogue pretty much always being important, meaningful, or funny. i thought the sense of humour in the show was great. again in retrospect i think that the character of pacifica could have been explored more, as she basically, thoughout the whole series she just thought

Well, neither Zefiris nor Sim were actually human. I think Shannon's attachment to the two of them is that he kind of created the both of them (in a previous life as Lord Beckenham, I imagine is how this anime worked).
