Very clear, but too fast... he missed very important moments of the piece! One must feel every note is played, not just play like a computer. Here at youtube has a Debussy version himself playing this piece. listen to it...
Perfect. He has the speed nobody else does. The 'passepied' is meant to be a fast. He gives the feeling of travel, and if you've heard any similar DeBussy songs they all have an incredibly fast left hand. I found the Weissenberg version not only too slow, but also has an emphasis on the left hand that shouldn't be there.
I think we need to get away from this uber-rubato fixation. It is applied at specific times, and not used in the same manner for all composers. It does not mean 'ritard and accelerando' indiscriminately, it is only a R.H. indication (L.H. must always be strict), or, 'wave my head around looking 'profound' in order to disguise the fact that I can't play in time'.
If we're all going to be screeching at each other and the pros, we should at least understand why. This is supposed to be fun.
I love this pianist, but this performance is too fast and heartless; it completely misses any dance-like feel. Listen to Richter's live performance from 1977 and you'll discover the true nature of he piece.
thanks a ton for posting these. i think even though weissenberg takes debussy so quickly, other pianists take his music far too slowly, without guts or flair or style.
I really like this piece but I think it's much too fast!!!

Бред. На такой скорости играть это - маразм. Половина темы пролетает мимо. Вторая пловина прикалывает, но не торкает нифига. Ахтунг ! В ацтой.

Almost as nice on the ears as clair de lune. =) this song has a somewhat charming sound to it, and it is a very happy song.

It may be played too fast, but I love how he rushes the ending. It makes this performance yet very special.

Idiot. It's not "rush, it is "rubato," Where'd you learn music anyway? Nowhere?
