does the nex-3k shoot in 3D too? or do you need the nex-5 or a different lense? because ill be getting the nex-3k and its going to come with the 18mm lens, so will it have 3D shooting?
"I figured I'd share my thoughts for the vast majority of people who most likely purchase some things like I do. We have a 10-month old and my wife and I wanted a camera that would allow us to take awesome pictures. DSLRs were too big to lug around and after reading the specs and seeing the Olympus and Panasonic I decided to hold off ..."

wowww! Nice images! have you tried time-lapsed photography with your NEX? You can use a wireless remote like this one to do it: Tempus NEX, sold at: tempus.bymac.org
I just got my NEX 3 today. But I have acouple questions and maybe you could answer them if you know. the kind of questions i have is when i want to rec, do i need the lenses on or off when recording. Can I take pictures and or record with out the lens?
@moonlightkisu Yep it comes with the battery. Every camera does actually. It'd be kinda odd if the camera didn't come with a battery, unless it uses something like AA batteries.
When i select playback in the histrogram mode, i notice that the image starts to blink (in form of white patches) in dark areas & bright areas. I wonder if this is normal. Previously i dont think i encounter this before. If this is normal, are there any way to disable this blinking function? thanks!
@agentelectric Hey there, yep it's normal. The blinking areas indicate parts of the photo that it feels is over exposed to aid you in adjusting the exposure.
@logan1544 Well personally I prefer 720p because it's a great balance between quality and file size + power required to edit. In fact, I got myself an NEX 3 in the end because of that. If you have a 1080p HD TV to take advantage of 1080p video then you might want to consider 1080p, though I think 720p is sufficient.
2 questions here. this would be the first expensive camera i bought ( if i do purchase it.) 1. would it be a good camera to start off with? 2. is there any major differences between the nex5 and nex3? thanks
1. Most certainly a good camera to start with. This camera has a lot of intelligence in it so that you can just worry about framing your photos etc, while the camera will take care of the technical stuff like aperture and shutter speed very well, and when you're ready to move on, the camera's manual modes give you quite a bit of control.
2. There are only 3 differences between the two. The NEX 5 has a bigger grip, records in 1080p video instead of 720p, and supports a wireless remote
with the price of this sony nex you can buy a real dslr guys come on sony is this the best answer for dslr's from nikon, canon etc.? buy a real camera than this i think there aint no lens available for this thing and its pricey too. give me a break!!!
@an2ny1625 I beg to differ. The NEX series costs half the price of the Canon 550D, their cheapest camera. Also, they're using the same sensor as Canon's and Nikon's entry-level DSLRs.
Plus, the NEX isn't meant to be an answer to DSLRs. It's a totally different audience they're targetting. Sony sells normal DSLRs too, you know, under the Alpha brand. In fact, as a result they have tons of lenses you can use on the NEX cameras through an adapter you can buy for it.
Hi, i dont know too much about photography. Whats the difference between 18-55mm lens and the 16mm pancake lens? Why is it called "pancake." Which lens has better quality and better for beginners?
@arnoldgd84 It's called pancake because unlike most lenses, it's very short, or flat (depends on how you look at it), so compared to the rest, it's like a pancake. It's not about "better quality" but the different types of shots you want to take. The 18-55mm lens lets you take better photos of far subjects while the 16mm lets you take better subjects that are much closer to you. If you want to do both far and near shots, you get both the lens.
@jedimdan thanks so much for the help, i appreciate it. I just got this camera and its great. It such a user friendly camera for beginners but i still have a lot to learn from it.

@JohnnyDJunior Yea, it does come with a flash in the package, but it's an accessory. Meaning you need to attach it to use it.
