  • Great video! I'm a new subscriber and i loved ur vids and how informative u are! Thank u!

  • @besmovement

Hello! Thank you for watching and subscribing! I really appreciate it!

  • Omgoodness thank you SO much. I have traditional locs but really tried to find a tutorial for our daughter! Only doing a few color "highlight" yarn dbl strand twists for her and your tutorial helped tremendously. Thanks and many blessings for 2012!! Peace...e your

  • @ErickaArthur

Yay! I am glad this video helped!

  • This is very pretty and it looks more natural than twisting with synthetic hair. Great tutorial and easy to follow along. I'm going to try this sometime soon.

  • @BeautifulxxButterfly

    Thank you!

  • moisture-wise*

  • How do you prep your hair before long-term styles? (like, moisturize-wise) I want to put some yarn twists in this weekend. I'm thinking: deep condition, use leave-in conditioner, and maybe some oil...but I haven't found anything perfect yet. I'd like to hear your response because you've done this style enough times to know (read: I think you're an expert :o} ) Thanks!

  • @TheLordsPrecious

Hi there! I wash and condition with an ayurvedic treatment/conditioner. Right before twisting, I apply conditioner (as a leave-in) and a hair butter or grease. After I finish twisting my hair, I spray (and spray) with either an aloe vera juice spritz or my care free curl gold hair and scalp spray. I hope this helped! :-)

  • i tried the tiwst but it didnt turn out right. is there a certain way your suppose to put your figures so it comes out the right why. please message me any info...or if you could make a video doing step by step in a waay..

  • @finebutcute2046

Hi there! Check out my video 15. It shows how I make a yarn twist. If you need more help, let me know and I will make another video.

  • This is a great tutorial. It's really clear, and easy to follow.

  • @kcat200

    Thank you!

  • Nice!!! I put my yarn braids in for the first time a week and two days ago.I love them!!! I am not sure about locks now so genie locks work for me.

  • @cookiesims1

Yes, yarn is the best at mimicking locks. I have fooled many peole!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed your video. It was informative, instructional and to the point. Your Twist look great!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • @MsNaturallyGorgeous

Thank you! I try hard to keep my vids short and informative. I appreciate you taking the time comment about it. :-)

  • Thanks so much :)

  • Which takes longer to install yarn braids or yarn twist? Also does it work in White peoples hair because I love this style and I want to try it :)

    Thanks :)

  • @Gothygirl8910

Yarn twists are quicker to do. I did yarn braids once and it took forever to install and forever to take out! :-(

Good question about being able to do this on Caucasian hair. I think it could; I don't see why it wouldn't work. If you try it, please let me know! :-)

  • Question: do you use anything to control rogue hairs while twisting? I have been doing test twists and I always have a little fuzz sticking out... :(

  • @criskai04

Oh gosh, I have this exact problem and no solution (sorry!). The frizzies are especially bad after wash day. Believe it or not, I have been thinking about what can be done. I plan on rebraiding a few twists this week and have thought about using gel. The shea butter and grease just ain't working! :-)

  • This video is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I was agonizing over how I could make my hair as long as I want, and have it be in braids, and have it not put a ton of stress on my hair (I perm mine), AND it not cost ten bazillion dollars! I make yarnfalls and yarn dreads already, but I was getting tired of that. Now I have this wonderful video to try something new and amazing. Have you ever used different color yarns? I plan to use red and black for my first try. Thank you so much for this video!

  • @lovelymasquerade

I am glad this vid helped! I have never used different colors. I did buy a chocolate brown to use, but chickened out. I need to be more adventurous! I bet the red and black will look nice!

  • @IamPeaceIamLove

Hey there! I braided yarn into my hair the very first time I wore it. It took forever to install and forever (and ever and ever and ever) to take out. I vowed, "Never again" and have worn twists ever since! I love my yarn twists! :-)

    Thanks for watching!

  • You tube is amazing, theanility to share tru hair and beautl profressional so easiely. Check or youtube simplext the are001% perscenryl truly deamess 100 uhumajin hair with free sh1pping.

  • i think that is really cool i always thought that it was peoples actual hair but i was wrong but its awesome!

  • @lilmissindependent22

That is why I like yarn! It fools people all the time!!!! :-)

    Thanks for watching!

  • While searching Youtube for videos of women with natural fine hair like mine I found your channel. I love it. I think you are beautiful and your yarn twists tutorial inspired me to put yarn twists in my hair this weekend. It turned out okay. In time I will get better. Keep up the good work!

  • @littlecuetee

Sometimes I wonder why I continue putting up videos, and after reading your comment, I suddenly realized why. It is nice knowing you can help people in any small way. Thank you for this beautiful comment.

I am glad you tried the yarn twists! It will get easier and easier the more you install them. I started out using synthetic hair and my first attempts were terrrible (ask my husband :-), but I got better and better the longer I did it.

    Take care!

  • turned out cute! I've never seen this technique, why are you using yarn instead of actual hair pieces??

  • @kymelle

Thanks! I use yarn for several reasons: it is cheaper than synthetic hair, lighter (less stress on hair strands), and it mimics the look of locs. I will never use synthetic hair again! :-)

  • It turned out pretty nice.. u r talented and patient.. how long it takes?

  • @ZainaWalkingTheLine

Thank you! It takes about 7 hours to put in the yarn twists. Lately, though, I have been putting in "chunky" yarn twists - bigger twists using more sections of hair - and that takes 3.5 hours. I did a vid of this - check it out! :-)

  • I absolutely love the yarn braids. I have a few questions for you. Is beeswax good to use on your hair when doing the yarn twist? Will the yarn lock your hair?

  • @miraclechild04

Yarn is the BEST. I used beeswax only once a few years ago when I was doing two-strand twists. I HATED it - it coated my hair in a really yucky way. So, I am not the one to ask about beeswax. :-) I stay away from it like the plague! :-) I use grease or shea butter.

I think you run the risk of locking your hair if you leave the yarn in too long. I only keep mine in for 4-6 weeks.

  • i tried doin some yarn twist exactly like u did but some came unraveled :(

  • @csbabygurlc

Oh no! I am sorry to hear this. I never had a problem with unraveling yarn when knotting and burning the ends. Lately, I have eliminated the knotting and just burn the ends. While I like the way the ends look without the knot, I have experienced more yarn unraveling. But the method I show in the video...no unraveling.

  • Thanks for sharing! this is one of the best videos on the subject. I'm trying to build up my skill so that i can do this as a protective style.

  • @thegirlof1983

Wow! Thank you very much! This is a great protective style!

  • good job. Yarn braids dont suppose to be even.

It suppose to look natural and like locs. You scared me

when you were cutting your braid I thought you were about to

cute your finger:( You should get littler scissors like some

hair cutting scissors. They are easier to use.

Thx for the tip about vaseline...

  • @AKIYIAKELLY

Thanks! I have cut my fingers...it wasn't pretty. But I have gotten much better. :-) I do have smaller scissors, but have no idea why I don't use them! i will have pull them out.

  • Only 5-6 hours??

*mumbles* I gotta get faster it took me nearly 2 days by myself on my own head... of course that was my first time adding ANYTHING to my own hair...

  • @DreamGyrl360

Uh-uh. It takes longer than that! I keep them in for 5-6 weeks, and it takes about 7-8 hours to complete. I love wearing yarn, but - sheesh - the time to do them....awful!

Two days for a beginner doesn't sound bad and you probably made your twists smaller than what I do. I think you will get faster and faster.

  • @NappyNFree I sure hope so! I am hoping to make braiding my career. Thank you so much for the confidence!

  • I love it. Absolutely beautiful results. I am natural and my hair is about 3 to 4 inches in length at the top and of course shorter in the back...needless to say I have grown tired of the wash and go style and am in need of something new. About how long did it take you to do this? And does it matter the type of Acrylic yarn?

  • @heavenslilkiss

    Thanks!

It takes between 7-8 hours or in other words, FOREVER! :-)

I use the Red Heart acrylic yarn, but I think any acrylic yarn is fine.

Please check out my other yarn twists videos. I have several! You can find them on my channel in the yarn twist playlist.

  • you are super gorgeaous and super talented. thank you so much for helping me.

  • @juliana23351

Awwwww! Don't feel like neither, but it sure feels good to read it! :-)

    Thank you!

  • @NappyNFree ur welcome

  • @NappyNFree oh yeah and ur

  • LOVE THE BRAIDS.. . SUPER CUTE

  • @quitthaten

Thank you for watching and for giving me such a nice compliment. :-)

  • Good Job! How long did it take you to do this and is that Acrylic yarn your using? *Thank you for adding the Shea butter tip, I use Shea butter everyday for my skin but never knew i could use it in my hair*

  • @prettythick

It takes about 5-6 hours to put the yarn in my hair...too long! :-) Yes, I use Red Heart acrylic yarn. Yep, shea butter is great for the hair!

  • i love this vid.. hair looks gud

  • @TheAj1987

    Thanks!

  • @Renee, I just love your yarn braids. I am going to save this video in my favorites and see if I can try to do my own. I have never braided my hair at all. I must say, you have a beautiful voice. I think this is the first one of your videos I watched and actually hear your voice. Excellent video. Merry Christmas!

  • @JayeJaye714

Hey lady! Thank you for much. I love yarn. It is the best. Just be careful not to use too much product or leave them in too long - the buildup is terrible. I leave mine in 4-5 weeks.

  • @NappyNFree I will make sure I send you a pm before I do them. By the way, how long have you been wearing them and have you notice a diffrence in the length of your hair after taking them out? I h ope you had a great Christmas (hubby too!).

  • @JayeJaye714

Hey! I wore the yarn twists for over a year (Oct 2009 - Nov 2010). I have had them out all of Dec, and it has been nice rediscovering my hair. :-) My hair didn't grow drastically - I am a slow grower - but it kept my hair protected and my ends strong.

  • @NappyNFree That is the only thing that I do not like about braids is because I miss my own hair. It is good to have the freedom of not having to do much to your hair, but natural hair, to me, needs so much TLC. I might continue to wear wigs and see what happens.

  • @JayeJaye714

Yes, I did miss my hair. Now that it has been out for a month, I think I will rebraid soon. I am thinking about trying coffee-colored yarn. I bought some today. :-)

  • @NappyNFree the coffee-colored yarn sounds yummy! I might go out and look for some this weekend. I did search for some in Walmart over the Christmas vacation and could not find the brand that you mentioned. Did you say you purchase yours at Michaels? I have got to come up with some more protective styles.

  • @JayeJaye714

Yes, you can find acrylic yarn at Michaels or AC Moore.

  • @NappyNFree ok, i didn't read further... here's the answer to my question :-} *well one of them, lol*

  • I love this video and the out come Ive been wanting to do kinky twist but didnt want to buy the hair. I have had yarn braided and would rather try with yarn before i invest in packs of hair. thank you ill let you know how it goes for me.

  • @nejlpenny

Please let me know. I love, love, love yarn.

  • love it. great job!

  • @whimisicalbliss

    Thank you! :-)

  • Nice video. I was wondering how the vaseline worked out.

  • @TWEET629

Hi! The vaseline didn't do anything good or bad. However, a few weeks ago I used Softee hair grease and was amazed at how soft my hair was when I took out the yarn.

  • Super cute!

  • @memorialshrimpaiko

Thank you! I love yarn twists and this style cuts down on the time it takes to do my entire head.

  • This I really cute!!! Gonna do my hair like this tonight :-)

  • @lmcquillar

Thank you! Yarn twists are the best! I love wearing them.

  • Thanks for your response- I can't find my original comment. But yeah, I will def keep yarn twists in mind since I have loads of yarn left. I am in love eith the finished products of yarn braids.. the locked look! check out my vid to see photos. ;O)

    take care luv x

  • Very nice.

  • @sunshine1buttercup1

    Thanks for watching! :-)

  • you explained this really well. i am going to yarn twist my hair for the very first time in the next couple days...thanks for posting!

  • @grinchgirl05

    Thank you and you're welcome!

  • really cute!

  • @amethystlv2

    Thanks!

  • Lovely! the best yarn twist tut I've seen!

  • @iamsillywarm

    Thank you very much!

  • Very nice and pretty!

  • @ybernard97

    Thank you!

  • Did you made a loop in your yarn right before putting them in like the rest of the naturals on Youtube? Or did you just got the amount of yarn you wanted, wrappped it around your hair and just started braiding? Because I Found the loop technique to be a little harder causing the yarn to be too far away from my roots. I was wonder if just braiding it in would be acceptable..

  • @LilacStar82

Hi there. I loop the yarn around the hair strand and start braiding. I just redid my hair yesterday and it is the first time that I braided my hair really tight...almost too tight. I think the trick is after you loop the yarn, you have to slide it towards your scalp and then begin braiding. I have done a vid on braiding extensions and I have a close up of my technique. Please check it out.

  • so I dip the ends in hot water, or u can pour the hot water in a mug and do it, becareful you don't burn yourself, it can get steamy, if you want curls you can dip too, have a towel handy, if you look at my video my braids lay down straight so well, try 5 of them to see hoer u like it

  • so I dip the ends in hot water, or u can pour the hot water in a mug and do it, becareful you don't burn yourself, it can get steamy, if you want curls you can dip too after u put rollers in have a towel handy, if you look at my video my braids they lay down straight so well, try 4 of them and see how you like it, I always dip after braiding, makes it look really nice...

  • @sonebone7

I will have to check out your vid and try this. How long do the curls last?

  • Sorry for responding so late, after I burn the ends, I get a small pot and get the water real hot, not boiling hot, if you notice the hair it looks dull like when finished, it's not straight how I like it,.... Cont

  • Do you by any chance dip your yarn braids into hot water? It looks really good when its dipped...

  • @sonebone7

No, I have never tried this. What does it do? Do you curl the ends then dip? I am not sure how long that would last since you are dealnig with a fabric and I don't know if it would be worth the time it would take to rod your hair. Tell me more....

  • Your yarn braids looks really nice! This is the second time I have wore yarn braids, I have them in now took me 10 hours this time and 2 days the first time I did them, I use braid sealers to burn the ends, I made a quick video on that, next time I will try the twist and see how that goes...

  • @sonebone7

10 HOURS! 2 DAYS? Oh my goodness! Girl, that is why I twist. I braided my hair the very first time wearing yarn braids and I said "Nevah again." It took forever to braid and forever to undo. I can twist my hair in about six hours. Let me know how the twists works out for you!

  • @NappyNFree Yes girl! I will do the twist next time lol!!!!

  • Your hair natural and in yarn braids is very beautiful. I'm transitioning from a relaxer and have only about 1/2 inch new growth. I put twists in, but the marley hair is causing me a considerable amount of pain and itching. Will this yarn braid work for me?

  • @pb9103

Hey there. Thanks! Synthetic hair made my head itch, too. It is the worse! I think one solution is soaking the hair white vinegar to remove some of the chemicals on the hair or using yarn braids. I have never had an itchy scalp because of the yarn.

  • Random idea: How do you feel about soaking the yarn in oil first? Does it keep it from absorbing the shea butter you just put in, or is it an unnecessary extra step?

  • @Setsunako6587 I guess you could do that, but soaking yarn in oil might make the twisting process a little messy. Then since oil doesn't "dry" I don't know how long the excess oil would stay on the yarn because your hair wouldn't absorb all the oil. I coat my hair with shea butter because I am not going to see it for awhile and this is the only opportunity I can make sure I take care of each and every strand...especially since I use very little oil/butter while wearing yarn. I hope this helps.

  • u dont burn your fingers?

  • @mrswatergirl14

    Nope, not like synthetic hair.

  • 4:44 FLAWLESS 4:46 FLAWLESS 4:52 FLAWLESS

  • @hontoa1

    THANK YOU!

  • wow that's so cool

  • @jomom6969

    Thanks!

  • wow, that looks amazing... && 2 think u did that all on ur own. what alot of patience that takes! =]

  • @RedSoxFreak85

What keeps me patient? The thought of the amount of money I am saving!! :-)

  • @NappyNFree VERY true!!! =D

  • Comment removed

  • That must take your sooooo long! lol

  • @Tsoma1

It takes about six hours. I pop in one of my Scrubs DVDs and the time zips by. :-)

  • omg ! this has been a great help! thank you!

  • @sumcrazyphemale

I am so glad it was helpful!!!!

  • i am so glad that i found your tutorial because they other ones i watched were doing extra things with the yarn..ur video is very simple...its very useful..

  • @babygurly07 Yay! Thank you very much!

  • I love your tutorial.....I was sitting here trying to learn from someone else's tutorial but they (yarn twists) were just unraveling (and too loose)...glad I found you the rollling while twisting is what really makes them stay!!!!!!

  • @lilj224

Thank you! I am taking out my yarn twists this weekend and thought about doing another video that only shows (in slow motion) how to twist yarn into hair. My way in this video isn't necessary the BEST way. Stay tuned!!! :-)

  • Your hair looks good. I'm trying to find someone in NC that can do them and they look like the ladies on YT. Very nice style, I guess I will have to settle with Kinky Twist I can't do my own hair, wish I could. :)

  • @nanatonyasia

I liked kinky twists, and now I really like kinky twists with yarn. :-)

I couldn't do it at first, either. I just kept practicing. My first attempts were bad!

  • good tutorial you should get a bunch a good reviews on this girl! Love the hair!

  • @Kinkycurlycoil

Thank you! I really love yarn twists.

  • Before seeing this video I would have never considered yarn braids as a style, but they look awesome! Great job, you look beautiful.

  • @missbossyhead Thank you! What a nice way to start my day, reading your message. Try them, you won't regret it.

  • looks beautiful

  • @prettybrowneyescutie

    Thank you!

  • you did a great job. I did my yarn braids and it's growing already. i think im going to do a big chop but im afraid if i do a big chop that my hair won't be what i want it to be. so im going to take mine down and do them in a shorter style. and maybe twist them. but great job!

  • @baileydo1 Thanks! I love the yarn twists. I took these out last week. I am going to give my hair a rest for a few weeks before putting them back in my hair. I am going to do a bob. I want to do a shorter style, too.

  • That looks really nice, I recently purchased yarn to do yarn braids I don't think I will try this just yet, I have a problem twisting my hair now and I have kinky twist hair that is meant to be twisted it unravels which tells me I don't have a clue, I will do yarn braids really soon, I can't wait.

  • Using yarn is waaaay better than synthetic hair. You will like them!

  • Thank you I plan to try this!

  • Thanks you! Yarn twists are the best!

  • Your hair is growing so beautifully. Your bun and half updo stylings were fabulous on you!

  • Thank you! I am pleased with my hair. :-)

  • Hey Diva! I wish that I had the patience (or the time - for that matter) to try this. I love this video! I'm thinking of trying this on my Big Girl's hair, but... is the yarn heavy? Her hair won't tolerate weight nor a lot of tension?

  • HEY! The braids are very, very, very, very light. They are amazing!

  • Great job! I will have to try this for the summer.

  • Thanks! :-)

  • Very pretty! You did a great job as usual!

  • Thanks! Where have you been? I miss watching your Afroveda vids. :-)

  • NiceLY Done!

  • Thank you!!

  • I like it and think that I can do my own hair but I dont think that they sell yarn for my hair color. when I bought human hair I had to buy #4 any suggestions?

  • I have worn 4 when wearing synthetic hair. To me, it is a color between black and brown. I don't know what color yarn you would need to buy. Would black drastically contrast with your hair? If it is subtle difference, maybe you could go with that color.

  • how long are u going to keep it for?

  • 5-6 weeks.

  • It came out very nice!!! You did a great job :)

  • Thank you! I am in LOVE with yarn!

  • creative idea!!!!

  • Thank you!

  • Beautiful! For the life of me, I can't twist while twisting. It too slippery to twist for some reason.

  • LOL. It took me a minute to learn. I just kept practicing...determined because I was tired of having other people braid my hair too tightly.

  • GREAT VIDEO

  • Thank you!

  • I like! This video was very precise. I will one day try long braids/twists. You did a good job and they are very cute and neat. Thank you for showcasing my earrings in your videos! Many Blessings....

  • you do a nice job how long does it take you?

  • 6-7 looooong hours! I put in one of my "Scrubs" dvds and twist away!

  • There is a young woman whose YT name is inspiredcoils. She has a tutorial on yarn braids that I think you would like. She recommends using Homespun brand yarn because it is coiled like our hair tends to be. I also think that her technique for wrapping the yarn and cutting may be easier and faster.

  • Thank you! I just checked out her two yarn vids. They are very informative and helpful.

  • So cute, thanks for sharing!

  • You are welcome!

  • cute styles in the pics @ the end!!

  • Thank you. Styles are my weak areas - I am not good at it, so your comments makes me smile!

  • WOW! The results are fabulous, I had this big smile on my face when you showed the pictures at the end! Well done girlee!

  • Girl!!! Thank you so much!

  • very nice! i have yarn braids in right now. but i think next time i'll try yarn twist.

  • Thank you. They are much easier!
