partymanners... thanks again for the great job you do on "the tube" with our equine friends. Nobody does it better than you do. I couldn't begin to think of the organization you put together so masterfully right here on Youtube.
Luv Ya Denman but you dissed Perfect Shirl off the top not mentioning just the U.S. and Euro runners and then you FUCKING MISSED HER striking front. Back to school Trevor.
Several hard luck stories, however I think as the race developed lack of requisite stamina cost Nahrain victory. Text book ride by Frankie. I just wish the other European jockeys,( apart from the excellent Peslier) rode these tight American tracks as well.
Its hard to know if Misty for Me would have won if she got out quick at the start. I say this because she is a front runner and to wire a field of this quality would take a huge effort and IMO I don't think she would have. A lot of hard luck stories but thats to be expected on such a tight track nearly every race this weekend will have it's hard luck story Aruna,Stacelita,Misty for Me fall into that category.
misty for me is best running from the front and im sure to plan was to get out and come across to be right up there with the leaders early on but that plan was gone out the window early she was the best filly in this race by a few lengths with a perfect run she easily had the best form going in the race too
Credit to John Velazquez. He rode a beautiful race on Perfect Shirl. As did Frankie Dettori on the previously unbeaten European filly, Nahrain. Ramon Dominguez got Stacelita boxed in badly on the rail. But in all honesty, Stacelita just wasn't running today like she was ever going to be good enough to win this race. And I say that having backed her. The scratch of the French filly, Announce, was signficant, too. Because she figured to be good enough to run into at least a place in this race. JMO
@GBeret83 I was disappointed by Stacelita. I actually thought she was traveling well, but was just boxed in with nowhere to go. By the time she finally had a clear course to take off, the field had blitzed past, and I think she got discouraged seeing the field blitz past her, and couldn't make progress. Nahrain ran a terrific race just outran, as Midday was outrun last year. But seeing this outcome I also wonder how Announce would have fared had she run, would have made it even more interesting.
@d9y8l7a6n5, Much agreed. Because Announce had hit the wire in a photo finish with Nahrain in the Prix De l' Opera in their race prior to the F&M Turf, and I really think Announce was good enough to have at least gotten a piece of this race. Ramon Dominguez rode a poor race on Stacelita, but to me, she wasn't going in this race nearly as easy as she did when she won the Beverly D. and the Flower Bowl. I halfway wonder if that protective eye bubble they had on her possibly bothered her some?
@GBeret83 I couldn't decide between Announce, Nahrain or Stacelita, but wound up with Announce, until she scratched and had to switch to the other two. Either way I would never have come up with Perfect Shirl lol, I've always thought she was an honest horse just not BC material. I'm quite excited Announce will stay in the states with Bill Mott, she should be a force, hopefully she comes to the BC st Santa Anita, I'd love to see her in person!
@GBeret83 Also whatever the excuse, disappointed that Stacelita ended her career on a sour note. Her body of work was absolutely terrific though, just wish her last race went better for her. What about Nahrain? I had heard it was possible she'd be retired after this, but haven't heard and word on that. I hope she isn't, she's only 3 and has loads of potential, I'm hoping its not another case similar to Dream Ahead, who was so prematurely retired IMO.
@d9y8l7a6n5, I knew that Dream Ahead had been what I also feel was prematurely retired. But as far as I know, Nahrain is going to race to race again as a 4yr.old. Haven't heard anything at all about her being retired yet?
Misty For Me easily the best filly or mare in this race, and very unlucky not to win the F&M Turf. If she hadn't stumbled and nearly gone down coming out of the gate, causing her to lose so much ground early in the race, she romps home with a win in this race, IMO. Because she was very nearly able to overcome such a bad break and still very nearly win this race. JMO.
@GBeret83 Misty certainly stumbled a little at the start, but I've seen worse starts than this, and the horses went on to win. Denman felt she was just "slow to get going", and added 0:57 in that she had "improved a little bit" (she wasn't last at this point). Also, what about undefeated Euro G1 winner Nahrain, and Stacileta who had a perfect trip until she got boxed in? Yes, it was a great win by US-based ace jockey Velasquez on a US/Canadian horse, beating supposedly the best on this surface.
@rcschumann We see that Misty For Me stumbled, from head-on, but Trevor probably wasn't looking at the screen, rather the gate, which gives him a pan view of sorts. From that view I doubt you'd be able to see her stumble, which was rather quick, especially since she was on the outside. She ran an amazing race considering her stumble and wide trip. Stacelita was discouraged I think seeing the field run past her and came up empty, Nahrain ran terrific, just outfinished as Midday was last year.
