If you have been playing some years,a scalloped fretboard will make your guitar a better instrument.Of course this is just my opinion, but bending and vibrato become so much easier. To boot you also get "forced" to relax your fretting hand.It simply happend by itself after some time playing with a scalloped fretboard. The only "downside" is that it can be a little more difficult to slide, but you get used to it (again the relaxed hand) and soon you dont notice it.Higly recomended (at least try it).
this is fucking insane, dude you got a mental guitar there... i think i got something that could compare though, ill post a video response to it when i can seea ya!
hey i just ordered a hs-3 for the neck of my strat how did you have it wired? iv heard of some people wiring it so its only connected to the master volume which is why i ask.
Can I ask, when you scallop the guitar, does it go out of tune and does the action and intonation get all fucked up and everything. I've got a really cheap guitar that I scalloped last year and it kept going out of tune and the action and into was getting screwed. I've got a Fender Stratocaster and I want to scallop it but I don't want it to end up like my cheap guitar? Any ideas and tips to help me? :)
@MeetyHam Hi dude, I have scalloped my own Fender strat, and it did not affect the guitar's ability to stay in tune, and I have no idea why your cheap guitar had problems after the scalloping. As for the action, you may want to put your action a little bit higher when the guitar is scalloped, than you normally would. The intonation can always be adjusted to sound right. Also on a scalloped guitar. Hope that helps (:
@FeltBikes4eva Thankyou :D But what about intonation and any tips on scalloping like what tool should I use and how deep to cut. Because it was mainly a test on my cheap guitar but I wanna do it on my strat but not fuck it up. Any tips?
@MeetyHam First, you should read alot of tutorials on the internet. DONT follow the videos here on youtube, most of those guys use improper techniches like using a powered tool. You should always use a normal file (in different sizes for the different frets). How deep-depends on how big your frets are. Your fingers shuld not touch the wood on the fretboard, so make sure they are deep enough. You can always get someone to adjust the intonation, so don't worry (: Good luck :D
You can get twang out of any guitar. Even an all-mahogany neck through guitar can twang. It's all in your rig, everything from strings to action to bridge, pickups, amp, amp settings, picks, technique, and so on.
@Theshamham They are humbuckers that have one coil stacked on top of the other so they look like single coils and give some of the single coil tone but humbuck and have a lot more output.
Silly to scallop an axe with inlays. Face dots wont come off if you know what your doing. Mine was done by Larry Lashbrook [ Ingvies tech for 20 yrs. ] Precision job . Cost a pretty penny but worth it. . The master. Puts stainlees steel inserts in body. Machine screws. Plus makes / designs own line of guitars. Check it out.
That was AWESOME!!!!!! I've got an early 90s left-handed stratocaster (3 colour sunburst similar to yours) and really want the stacked humbuckers in it. How do you find the volume/output comparison between the DiMarzios and SDs? Any real differences that you've noticed? BTW, amazing harmonics. They seem to fall off the STk10s from the clips I've heard.
Hi Riffguy, when you scalloped that fretboard, did the inlays fall of? And if they did, what did you do to create new inlays? I'm aksing because im scalloping my neck soon, which is also a maple neck.
@FeltBikes4eva Inlays are always a problem when you scallop a fretboard. You just need to go easy and watch for signs of the inlays getting thin and stop before you file through it. If you do lose and inlay, you can always drill the hole a bit deeper and put in a new one.
Hi Riff guy, first off great playing you sure know your stuff. I would like to bother you with one question though, what fret size is it on that guitar you are playing in the video? Cheers mate, take care.
Did you buy it new??? I got my 76 Strat in '78. It is pretty much identical. Sunburst with the Maple neck. I have long time past sanded it to bare wood... because its my axe and a player... and I will probably be buried with it.... :^)
@jpjdo1212 what kind of S is it? is it a lower-end S or is it a Prestige?
if you love the guitar enough, i'd say cool, but i would get the best luthier i could get a hold of to do that. i wouldn't trust myself to do that on my guitar. but that's just me.
@jpjdo1212 hmm... than i'm not sure if i'd really recommend it. a lot could go wrong if you do it yourself and don't really know your luthiers well enough to trust em. i don't think it'd be worth the risk of screwing up.
@cieplakupka carve the wood on the neck to a "u" shape, slightly curved instead of flat, so u dnt touch wood with ur fingertips, u get better grip for bends and vibrato, but its not easy to play fast

I have a guitar, its a factory scalloped Fender neck, and someone went and stapled it to a mahogany Les Paul body (I believe it is a Warmoth), and its got humbuckers (BHT's, which I have never heard of before, but they sound awesome), and it has a 5-way selector. Two of the positions split the coils, and it sounds just awesome. I have photos, but who knows what to call it. Its my favorite play guitar, besides my parker and gibson les paul. Really interesting feeling and sound coming from it.
@ryannnnnnnnn8 He's got a shit load of Gibsons. I love Gibsons too, but I'm not some Gibson snob dickhead who thinks they're the only good guitars. If Strats suck, why are they played by Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Yngwie Malmsteen, SRV, and so on? Moron
@Glockenator and dave murray, janick gers, adrian smith, buddy guy, robert cray, eddie vanhalen (frankenstrat), ronnie wood, keith richards (sometimes), dick dale, and dot dot dot...
He has no point. He probably is one of those type of guys who doesn't except any other brand of guitars and tells people to get a Gibson because of some elitest issue.
@ryannnnnnnnn8 close your eyes and listen to this clip.....if you think this "sucks" just because its a strat then youre ignorant and tone deaf. A person could say gibson's suck because of the shitty playability and the low standards that gibson pumps out of the factory, not to mention the very high chance of getting a lemon that isnt worth half of the price tag that Gibson decides to throw on it. But, at the same time some gibsons sound fantastic. Fender makes high quality instruments, period.
@ryannnnnnnnn8 WOW ok bud grow up. Both are good. The fact that you would even say that is proof of how immature you are as a guitarist. Fenders and Gibsons each have their own flavours... I personally LOVE strats, but I can't play LPs. I just don't like the way they feel. But I still acknowledge the fact that they are an excellent guitar.
@MyxHarnett word up do strats don't suck but as for me im still more of an Ibanez guy always seem to have more of an edgier tone in my opinion.... but hey you can't go wrong with a japanese or american guitar just stay away from indonesia and china
those guitar may kill you in the end.... and thank god nancy pelosi is finally out i can finally breath the air again in the US
@jpjdo1212 yeah my RG370DX is from Indonesia. very good guitar. and i changed out the tuning machines with Sperzels, and i've found that the Indonesian tuning machines are actually nicer than Sperzels. they don't lock down, but they feel 10 times better to turn.
the fret job on the necks is excellent, too, for what it is. however there is one problem on my RG... the last 2 frets on the bass side are the slightest bit high, so i can't lower the action to 1mm, but it's still pretty damn low!
@MyxHarnett yeah, people who say they suck. strats are the most versatile guitars out there. i know lots a people who think they suck cos most peoples first guitars are either strats, or strat imitations. so they think you need a completely different guitar later. or they just love metal, so i guess it's best to get a metal guitar. but shit, i've play some metallica with my old squier, and that even sounded fine. fender stratocasters are beautiful!!!
@ryannnnnnnnn8 dude... if you don't like strats, you have not played one or maybe a realy cheap ass version... i also like gibson better, but strats are realy cool guitars to!
@ryannnnnnnnn8 stratocasters are one of the best guitars in the world...I used to feel that way too, Gibsons we're everything... until I played a 60's strat with DiMarzio pickups with a mesa boogie stiletto amp! the tone and the feeling of the neck we're absolutely mind-blowing!
@guitarlord247 you are wrong, scalloped frets only make bends and vibrato easier but no guitar playing easy, and in my opinion scalloped frets looks great on stratocaster, but just my opinion =D

Grow up.

@ryannnnnnnnn8 Saying stratocasters suck is like saying that nancy pelosi isn't a witch.
It's just not true.

@MyxHarnett word up do strats don't suck but as for me im still more of an Ibanez guy always seem to have more of an edgier tone in my opinion.... but hey you can't go wrong with a japanese or american guitar just stay away from indonesia and china
those guitar may kill you in the end.... and thank god nancy pelosi is finally out i can finally breath the air again in the US
zerointurn 10 months ago
@zerointurn actually indonesia guitars are actually fine.. its better quality than china guitars
i own 2 indonesian ibanez they hold up pretty well i swapped out a couple pickups here and there but thats pretty much it..
jpjdo1212 10 months ago
@jpjdo1212 yeah my RG370DX is from Indonesia. very good guitar. and i changed out the tuning machines with Sperzels, and i've found that the Indonesian tuning machines are actually nicer than Sperzels. they don't lock down, but they feel 10 times better to turn.
the fret job on the necks is excellent, too, for what it is. however there is one problem on my RG... the last 2 frets on the bass side are the slightest bit high, so i can't lower the action to 1mm, but it's still pretty damn low!
TheMetalHeaD256 10 months ago
@MyxHarnett yeah, people who say they suck. strats are the most versatile guitars out there. i know lots a people who think they suck cos most peoples first guitars are either strats, or strat imitations. so they think you need a completely different guitar later. or they just love metal, so i guess it's best to get a metal guitar. but shit, i've play some metallica with my old squier, and that even sounded fine. fender stratocasters are beautiful!!!
queerp 7 months ago
@ryannnnnnnnn8 Not true. They take tons of skill to play. Gibsons are better for distortion kind of stuff. But strats definitely do NOT SUCK.
RDVideosInc 1 year ago
@ryannnnnnnnn8 dude... if you don't like strats, you have not played one or maybe a realy cheap ass version... i also like gibson better, but strats are realy cool guitars to!

@ryannnnnnnnn8 stratocasters are one of the best guitars in the world...I used to feel that way too, Gibsons we're everything... until I played a 60's strat with DiMarzio pickups with a mesa boogie stiletto amp! the tone and the feeling of the neck we're absolutely mind-blowing!

you SEEM to have a heavy hand... im not sure if im right lool but i was wondering how that affects playing scalloped frets?
ilovestinalots 1 year ago
@ilovestinalots scalloped frets make a guitar easier to play
guitarlord247 1 year ago
@guitarlord247 you are wrong, scalloped frets only make bends and vibrato easier but no guitar playing easy, and in my opinion scalloped frets looks great on stratocaster, but just my opinion =D
