Will is playing a very broad version of the "Will Self" character he has cultivated for years in the media. The reason the Satisfied Fool crew decided to do a bit with Will is because of this persona. He provides an easy reference point for the arrogant, unhappy intellectual as well as having awesome comedic timing.

That said, Will may genuinely be a jerk, but he's more of a nuanced jerk than the one he creates in this

Eventually he will realize that he enjoys reading, and discover other sorts of books, and all this reading will help him become "more intelligent". But trying to read books that don't hold his interest, merely for the sake of trying to improve his mind, only turns him off to books.

I feel bad for Karl because he does concern himself too much with what other people think, but at the same time he's inspirational. He says he may not have learned something but i don't know how true that statement stands.
