  • where is [[AK]] &[[HO]] ??

  • very nice video..10star history about the combat aircraft

  • As in you upgrade the airframe so that it can handle this, or better yet-use this technology to create a next-generation fighter or aircraft, designing the airframe to handle that type of punishment.

  • NASA (A U.S. entity) and the Airforce are also cooking up a Jet that can travel over 10,000 miles per hour. Now imagine this engine being slapped onto a fighter with stealth capability, or onto a stealth-capable bomber.

  • Ever heard of structural requirements of large thrust output engines? also ever heard of thrust to wight ratio? Its not a matter of sticking the biggest engine on any airplane.

  • Hey, great vid!

  • Dumb question, I suppose, but here goes....

I did 23,000+ hours and been retired for nearly 20 years, and only started thinking of this recently...

Why is an airplane rudder rigged the way it is? I mean, it seems logical that the roll function/aileron design makes sense - left wing down, input stick/wheel in that direction. Same for pitch - nose up, pull it up. But if you want the nose to go left, you DON'T kick it over there with right rudder, - just the opposite!! Anyone have a guess?

  • because the rudder is at the back and they want the pilot to be as comfortable as posible instead of confusing them about this kind of things.

  • lol Everyone Calm down, American's created the first vehicle capable of flight, America gave europeans, and others opportunities like know other country in the world ever had,

  • su 47! lol why would a prototype would b a in this ! a plane that will never serve in any air force ! an air frame used first by us and showed to b ineffective figther im talkin about x-29!! and that was in 1991 lol

  • su 47! lol why would a prototype would b a in this ! a plane that will never serve in any air force ! an air frame used first by us and showed to b ineffective figther im talkin about x-29!! and that was in 1991 lol

  • or a spitfire?!

  • From the school of "If it ain't American it ain't shit" 99% of the world's most significant aircraft ignored,

  • well this is an american video, The Advancement of Aviation through the Ages in the US (( military aviation))

  • Lotta F/A-22s in the advancement of aviation over the ages. ;)

    And you missed the Concorde!

  • yeah it's cool man. sorry if i overreacted a bit, i just hate how some people hate americans just because of what our government's done. i think it's a fad to bash on america now...stinks for us.

  • yep. Especially since most people don't actually like what Bush is doing. The New York Times, which, from my experience is the most read American newspaper in other places of the world, is VERY right wing and doesn't show half of what we're doing over here.

  • actually the New York Times is extremely LEFT...if it was even somewhat balanced it would actually tell about the good things the Bush administration is doing.

  • Look, I know that everyone thinks that their side is being cheated. But think about this. NYT tries to make everything anti-Bush that we do into nothing, while maximizing nothing, such as Clinton's alleged breakdown (watch the videos, her voice got cracked a bit, nothing else) into saying that a woman isn't capable of running the country. If it were a republican, chances are that wouldn't have happened.

  • Both airplane and aeroplane are perfectly acceptable spellings of the word. Keep in mind that the English the world speaks is based on American, not British, English. Just a thought. :)

  • And incidentally, it IS airplane. It is also aeroplane. Both American and British English are perfectly acceptable versions of the language, although to tell the truth, I believe that "World English" is based more on American English. Did you know that both commonly disputed spellings of, say, color (color and colour) were used in British English at one time? But colour is the French way of spelling the word. We Americans decided that the "u" was a needless complication, so we eliminated it.

  • Yes, the first Americans were British colonists, which is why we speak English. Then we got tired of how Parliament was taxing us without representation, so we won our independence. Everybody in Europe thought that America would collapse in a few years (we had no King except God, see? *gasp) but we went on to become the greatest country in the world. And now we are sadly beginning to collapse, as all great countries do...Britain used to be the world's greatest empire, but it sure isn't now.

  • Fuck an A Cotton, FUCK AN A!

  • Awesome vid 5/5

  • Well, to all you American haters...might I ask you who invented the airplane in the first place? The reason we have better aircraft is not necessarily that we have more good minds, but that, thanks to our free market, (which is sadly disintegrating) we have the money to get those minds working. I'm going to be an aerospace engineer; *cross my fingers I'll design these things!

  • great !

  • This should have beeb called F-22 show off video

  • check out my pilot stuck in f-22

  • this video is shite!!

  • This video was very good; the music was very inspiring. Sure, it doesn't show any non-American aircraft, because it's probably used for American aviation history.

They should change the title to "Advancement of American Aviation through the Ages" ;)

  • Excellent job! Well done! I loved it!

  • name of the song please. I'm a member of a symphony and it's a beautiful song.

  • hey, what´s about commercial aviation? Isn´t that significant?

  • not everything has to be the US vs. Europe. In fact it is extremely rare that the US and Europe will ever again (like next 100 years or so) fight with aircraft. let alone fight. and my opinion is that the US makes better fighters and planes, but Europe owns our ass in automobiles. hands down.

  • Yes, they do pay much more attention to their cars than Americans do; at least the way they perform. Americans don't care much for high priced exotic sportscars like Europeans do. We want the cheap priced 'drag racing' type muscle cars. lol

But, it's starting to change, with the Corvette C6 Z06 being the cheap priced 'exotic car killer'. lol

Americans have Mosler MT900, Saleen S7 TT, SSC Ultimate Aero, etc. to start with.

  • But again, American car companies aren't really in to making high priced exotics like Europeans are; we could do it, if we really want to though. Look at the 1980s concepts, and you'll see.

Go look up 1988 Oldsmobile Aerotech, Corvette Cerv III, among other 1980s American super cars. We used to be into that stuff, but they sadly gave up on it... I'm guessing they saw no big profit in the exotic sportscar business.

  • The song of this video?

  • its advancemnt of US aviation, not of aviation in general

  • Not altogether, true, but mostly. Tell me, what country has made an SR-71 type aircraft? And F-22 type aircraft? An XB-70? A YF-12 (interceptor version of SR-71)? B-2 bomber? F-117? America broke the speed of sound first; flew mach 2 first; flew mach 3 first; flew mach 6 first and only; flew mach 10 with a UAV first, AND ONLY have since, not anyone else. Plus more.

  • The JSF is strangely lacking... I guess it's an old vid. Probably made by lockheed martin before the JSF came along.

  • Brilliant. Love the SR-71, F-117, and F-22. Great video, added to favourites.

  • What amazing machines.

  • Well, it could be known who takes the shots : all the airplanes were from the U.S., and half of them are fighters. This for Northham (or whatever) who says U.S. only recently became beligerant. What a joke.

  • dam y didnt u include the space shuttle??

  • Fucking hell its a ad for the usaf i like the way its called aviation through the ages 1 thing weres the rest of the planes is it just the us that fly planes for over 100 yrs

  • And don't forget the world's first dung-powered supersonic aircraft, Kazakhstan's Borat 237.

  • I like Italians :-) they have mostly beautifull women. :-))

  • Seems to me alot of people didn't read the title. It is "Advancement" not firsts. And as far as who did what first it really doesn't matter. Oh the French oh the British oh the Americans oh the on and on. Nobody mentioned the Italians where are the notes about them? Fiat C-29 G-55 Cr-32/42 SM-55, Macchi MC37,69,72,202,205? Koolhooven huh? the Bugatti racer? Jeez it's aviation not my dogs better than yours

  • wtf didnt canda fight in world war one and two?

  • Canada did fight. Canada lost 60,000 in WWI, a higher proportion of population than for Britain, and 40,000+ in WWII. 22,000 served in the RFC/RAF during WW1 and 260,000 in the RAF during WW2.

  • Where did all this American nationalism come from?

It's the British, Germans and Russians who deserve much of the credit for aeronautical advances.

    1. These 3 invented a lot but lacked money to push.

    2. War has been the big driver for aviation progress, and had we not kindly let Americans in to ours (Second World War & Cold War) then the US would be nowhere. I didn't mention the First World War: the US had to buy aircraft off the French of all people as the american aircraft were c**p.

  • Plain and simple the U.S. didn't have much in the way of A/c in the beginning of WWI. Yeah we also got to buy some of those wonderful Chauchault MG that did more for the advancement of the german army than just about anything

  • This is true, back then America wasn't a warmonger, like the dirty Europeans, so we didn't bother much with putting money into military technology, nor the study of the advancement of them. Damn you Euro-trash warmongers, always starting World Wars, and the U.S. has to come to the rescue...

  • Do you practise talking shite or do you just do it naturally?

  • Well, it was pretty much kidding around, but with some truth to it. ;)

  • LOL "kindly let Americans into ours" ROFL! Roosevelt and Churchill wanted us in the war from the start. Britain and Russia could have won it by themselves eventually, but

Churchill and Stalin wanted to end it shorter by drawing America in.

  • Germans buy products of the US and the other way around. Who drives an Asian car for example? Because of that it is given that we already cooperate with each other and if it is not the whole product it is a part of it for example just wheel.

    Have fun guys.

  • Looks like an F22 advertisement. Except for who was fist in what ever, did we not learn of each other? We are living in one world, some productions do have a very strong political background to show their power to other countries. Look at the behaviour of North Korea or Iran which is a typical example of showing power. I think it does not make sense to discuss about which country is the best one in the technical development like in a world ranking.

  • wheres the one that started it all?

    where is the avro arrow?

  • wheres the oen that started it all?

    where the avro arrow?

  • we arr livving in amerricca amerricca amerricca, we arr livving in amerricca, cocca colla wonderbau, we arr livving in amerricca amerricca amerricca we arr livving in amerricca hamburrrger and cocca colla fat people wonderbau!

  • we arr livving in amerricca amerricca amerricca, we arr livving in amerricca coccal colla wonderbau....lo lo la la

  • First my butt!

The Greeks were first in everything!

  • No one said American never made mistakes... JUST LIKE EVERY country. Look at Russia's space program in the 50's and 60's, all covered up their screw ups until after the Cold War they let the video's go, and now we see them. So don't think other countries don't cover up their screw ups too, because their pride prevents them from showing it to the world. Nice try, but you lose. America has pioneered aviation, and that is a fact, not opinion.

  • You've saved me a lot of typing. You know your shit. I'm a North American Aviation brat and Rockwell chroney. I saw the first B-1 roll out. I've flown in several aircraft and most of my relatives have contributed to aviation and the defense of this country through our design and technology. You spoke the truth my friend and that is only what is "Public". I sleep well.

  • USA are so great, bla bla bla, bla bla bla... don't forget Columbia and Challenger in your so incredible achievements.

  • Talking of thust vectoring, look up American F-15 ACTIVE, F-18 HARV, F-16 MATV, X-36 UAV - huge canards, fluidic TVC! Look up HiMAT flown in 1979 by America, for study on super-maneuverability! American's made the first remote cruise missile-plane!

  • American's have revolutionized stealth technology, that no other country has tried it until recent years; now they're following America's footsteps by making stealth UAV's like America. American's have been flying stealth jets since the SR-71; on to the F-117, then B-2, then F-22, now F-35. No other country has done this! Why? If it's so easy?

  • American B-29 bombers were so good, Russians copied them directly, when the B-29's had to make emergency landings in Russia during WWII!

  • Boeing dominated airliners for years, and it's only now European Airbus catches up (no doubt by learning from Boeing all these years)? What's up with that? And this year Boeing sold 740+ aircraft, compared to Airbus 230ish! lol And now they screw up on their wiring in A380. lol

  • American P-80 was superior to the Me-262. If you want, we can just go back to who flew first: AMERICANS - WRIGHT BROTHERS! Concorde was nothing special, Americans chose not to build one, because we knew it'd be useless, why do you think Concorde ISN'T AROUND TODAY? lol nice try, but sorry, you lose.

  • Total bollocks theres only one Concorde ...ya pays ya money and hey presto you are doing mach 2 in 2 1/2 hrs your in america :I tried it in a fat BOIENG took 6 hrs

  • Ah, and where's your bollocks Concorde today? You think America couldn't EASILY make a mach two airliner? What're you kidding me? America can do that and better if it so wanted to. Ever hear of the North American XB-70? It was a mach 3... MACH *THREE* bomber concept that CRUISED mach 3 for half an hour in 1967. Excuse me, but I haven't seen Europe come close to matching such a thing. ;)

  • America chose not to make an airliner that broke the sound barrier because of the enormous noise factor involved. Learn the difference before posting such crap. :)

  • america does make very fast aeroplanes we agree on that, but unless your a fighter pilot at mach 2,the average man on the street would never experience this concorde fullfilled this and was elegant wih it.when in gods name has america ever given a shit about noise, pollution etc ive heard a b52 by the way we made the spitfire designed in 1935 which is the most beautifully designed air craft in history I know the p51 was a little faster but is quite ugly like your cars .

  • It's a known fact that they didn't want sonic booms going off all the time in areas where people lived, near airports. And the Spitfire was nice, yes... but the Lockheed P-80 was better! ;) It was the best 1st generation jet fighter! And it was actually superior in performance compared to anything the Brits and Germany made at the time!

  • The American P-80 was superior in performance and looks compared to any of the other 1st generation British or German jets. Check it out on Google. ;)

  • ohhhh a little bit of jealousy in your tone? ;)

  • Your the first person I've ever heard call a P-51 Ugly, The spitfire is quite a beautiful piece of machinery but the P-51 Out performs.

  • Raven, you do know about American (Northrop) N-9M flying wing, that did fly in 1942, right? Yeah, thought so. A flying STEALTH JET BOMBER which is WAY more sophisticated, is DIFFERENT, genius. lmao

  • Americans first to break the sound barrier, first to mach 2, 3, in an aircraft; Americans flew X-15 which flew mach 6+ in the 1960's! American XB-70 bomber concept CRUISED at mach 3 for over half an hour in early 60's! Americans just broke MACH 10 with a UAV! And much more. Tell me, what other country today has done such things for aviation? No other, only America.

  • America first flew (Wright Brothers); SR-71 cruising mach 3+ for over an hour; Best fighter in the world today F-22 Raptor; Lockheed P-80 fighter in 1944 was actually superior to the Me-262... nice try though! P-51 Mustangs helped EMENSELY in WWII, no doubt about it.

  • Boeing could've easily made a supersonic airliner, it just chose not to, since it was not wanted by the public and government - TOO NOISY - SONIC BOOMS <-- not good. So nice try, but sorry. U.S. has done a lot for aviation; anyone that says otherwise is living in denial.

  • That's not actually true. The government contracted Boeing to make the B 2707 supersonic, but Boeing set their goals too high, with a giant aircraft with variable geometry wings that was supposed to cruise at mach 3. However, it was too heavy and by the time Boeing was able to lower the weight enough for the plan to be possible, all the support had evaporated.

  • Yeah... Maybe this should be called "The Advancement of Aviation through the ages until it becomes a handjob of an ad for Boeing's F-15 and F-22..."

Because Eurofighter, LCA, Rafaele, Russian MFI/PAK FA, J-10, Me 262, Buran and the US shuttles, Mig 15, Tu-95 Bear, B-52 et al (et al means "and everyone else" for you internet morons)have had nothing to offer...

  • Hey there, genius. Boeing didn't make everything. In fact, they didn't make either of those. The F-15 was made by McDonnell Douglas and the F/A-22 was made by Lockheed Martin.

  • You're right, I was just going by the current onwer names. But there was a lot of Boeing content in there though...

  • nice

  • correction, flying wing type was is GO 229 alias Ho IX

    sorry for misstatement

  • yeah sure,

like the Me 262 (first jet fighter, germany)

like the concorde (first civilian supersonic plane, france/england)

like the Su 30 (first jet with thrust vektoring, russia)

and while germany had a perfectly flight stable flying wing stealth plane (the Go 226) during WW2 it took great US 30 years just to copy the captured technology and build the B2 - which btw needs computer aided avionics to stay airborn

  • Yes, please show American made F-15s flown by Israelis shooting down Soviet MiGs flown by Syrians. That would give the international balance everyone is bitching about. Face it people. America IS aviation. Everyone else just tries to copy it or buy it from us.

  • Oh you mean like the Harrier? Oh wait...

  • "note: a number of quite significant aircrafts are not included here"

yes, like anything not american. perspective please. you are not alone.

  • I believe this was a video developed by the makers of the F-22; Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney & the venerable USAF. Hence the focus on only american military aircraft. ;)

  • really nice video.

  • You missed some of Spanish contributions to the advancement of aviation, but I understand it. Just had to let it be known...

  • THIS IS WHAT I CALL A GREAT VIDEO!

  • Great video. The last part really got to me. The end of the music combined with the F-22s pulling away one by one was very emotional. But then, maybe I'm just an emotional guy when it comes to aircraft. Call me a wuss.
