  • I find having a pedometer makes me want to walk more. Seeing how many steps I've taken is motivating...it just makes me want to walk more! It's a game for me now to see if I can beat my steps from the day before. I'm always increasing the amount of steps I take.....and believe it or not, it's really fun!

  • Park further away from intended destination.

  • to get extra steps in my day I walk briskly around my house during commercials on the TV

  • why the fuck did i watch this

  • Hey. I'm sure i'll just be another person reponding but i watched your video yesterday and before i went to work i bought a pedometer. At the end of the night, I had walked 6,243 steps which was equivalent to 2.715 miles and burned 171 calories. That was just the walking! So thank you for your inspiration.

  • 10,000 steps a day in just 3 hours with a TrekDesk Treadmill Desk. Walk while you work.

  • Good video! And, adding a pair of shoes that tone and burn calories will help you get there faster. Check out the link on my Channel.

  • kbonez2, that's really funny how you asked that question---I cracked up. I always wear my pedometer and am always b/t 8,000 and 13,000 calories per day. It never makes me lose weight, but it helps in not gaining weight.

  • this is really cliche, but I suggest walking your stairs instead of taking the elevator....

  • On a cold winter day I can easily manage 25000 steps per day without much effort through a combination of exercise and daily life, but in the summer I stuggle to make it to 10000 because I get so hot and thirsty. :(

I genuinely do enjoy it though. Walking briskly gives me a 'high', my limbs feel loose like I've had a massage and I feel more alert.

Boredom is a major factor in whether you'll fail or succeed. It's amazing what a difference listening to some good music can make.

    Good luck!

  • go window shopping with your friends, i walked nearly 10000 when i did this then watched a nice dvd after at my friends house. walked the rest by walking around at home later

  • park your car further in a parking lo, its not much of a difference, but remember every step counts(:

  • Since I'm a man I have never had an office job. Ive worked active physical jobs but lost my job about 9 months ago. Since then Ive gained 50 lbs. Ive just recently started taking action and walk 4 to 8 miles a day. Just in the last 3 days alone ive lost over 5 lbs. But things like walking to the store down the street instead of driving all add up to healthier living. The less driving and more walking the better off you are.

  • @thebestneverrest1985

Wow that's great! Apparently you burn as many calories walking as you do running. Based on equal distances. Walking just takes longer

  • You do not have to walk all 10,000 steps (about 1 hour) at once. I break up mine 10 minutes each walk throughout the day...and the results are the same. Weight is falling off!!!

  • Great video for getting your steps in. It can be done if you make the effort. Get up and walk in place during commercials, walk your dog,get a rebounder too.

  • Ive been doing 30000 per day this past week or so

  • oh goodness i tried to walk 10 000 steps... one it got boring and two i got tired after the third mile haha

  • l always take stairs, and i tend to walk around whenever im bored so that helps :D i usually do 15000-20000 steps day... also if im watchin tv and an advery comes on i get up and either walk around the house or run up and down the stairs ^_^ hope this helps someone oooh and 10000 steps is approx 5 miles ^_^

  • These tips could cause OCD in a person.

When I was anorexic...I had to move around constantly to burn as much calories as I could every day.

  • How many miles does it take to lose 1 pound? or like maybe 10.

  • its healthier to lose 1-2 pounds per week so you should burn or cut out 500 calories from your diet per day :D 3500 calories = 1 pound so you could cut out 200 calories and then walk 10000 steps which burns around 500 calories so you've burned 700 calories. Do this everyday and you should loose 1-2pounds per week (remember it depends on your weight and age) :D hope this helps ^_^

  • Ps Keep a few bus tickets. If you buy stuff walking miles home is not an option. Plus bad weather may crop up or you may walk too far and get winded or lost. I do that. I often forget the journey BACK! Then again you see different areas and walk what you would have back.

  • I walk to and from work about a mile and a half. I work nights so when I go to work and leave its pretty quiet. Relaxing too. AND dangerous so keep my wits about me. Ottawa just had a 3 month bus strike so walking was not a choice. Besides you can be halfway home so why wait for one? I suggest runners with insoles, dressing in layers and a knapsack to buy stuff and a waterbottle around your neck. Music am fm too. Walk dont run. You dont get hurt and see more.

  • Look at her dramatic movements when she walks xD

  • i walk 6 miles everyday,thats about 10500 steps.

  • Parking farther away from your workplace or a store?

  • How many calaries are 1 pound?

  • 3500

  • Pacing while talking on the phone or waiting for food to be done.

  • Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs.

  • how many miles of walking is 10000 steps?

  • only 4 i just looked up steps per mile and it only says 2250-2500

  • thanks! :D

  • It takes me about 6.1 miles when I run to reach 10,000 steps

  • haha she walks funny....

  • Great tips! I will definitely add more steps to my day. One way to add steps is to park further away from the department store. I try that when I shop instead of trying to find a close parking spot.

  • haha i have to park far away... my truck is too big, the wheelbase is too long so its nearly impossible to park with other cars around. lol.

  • i always try to walk the 3 miles to the gym. it's a great way to warm up your body for exercise and it's also good for cooling down. also, it has cut down on how much gas i use driving back and forth.

  • I like to download books on tape and then listen to them on my ipod while I go for a long walk - it keeps my brain occupied and entertained even when the scenery doesn't.

  • where do u download the books?

  • I use limewire.

  • approximately how many minutes/hours does it take to walk 10,000steps??

  • I enquired once, dont remember for sure. But I think it's approximately 1:16-20 mins

    Make sure though...

  • it's about 4.5 miles & takes me 1hr 30 mins

  • ok thanks for the reply!

    Xoxo

  • If I've already used my treadmill that day, I will workout while watching TV in the evening. (Like walking in place..jump roping, etc)

  • This was such a great video, my favorite parts were when you actually acted out the different ideas! Haha...thanks for your help!

  • We have 5 floors in our house. I do a lot of work from home and work in our office on the 2nd floor. Instead of going to the 1st or 3rd floor washroom i walk up to the 5th floor. The amount of staris from one floor to the next aren't many, but if i'm drinking lots of fluids then i make multiple trips throughout the day and i've really noticed a difference. You could try this at your work also, drink lost of water (which is good for you) and then use the furthest bathroom in the facility from you

  • if you really want to lose weight go to: combatingfat.blogspot, com

  • walking tips:

    - if taking the bus, get off 1-2 stops before your usual stop

    - park your car a few blks from your destination or at the end of the parking lot

  • When running errands, or even when I go to school I like to park a bit farther from where I'm going to get in some extra walking.

  • Dancing counts?

  • Dancing counts!

  • how long would u be able to walk to get 10,000 steps.....a mile??

  • take rlly rly smal steps :D

  • I'm going to try to take smaller steps and speed up :)

  • Here's my suggestion:

For those who are younger or just have some extra time on their hands, start a dog walking service for your community/neighborhood. It's a fantastic way to make some extra cash and you'll burn quite a bit of calories doing so!

  • Hey Sarah, if we walk over to our co-workers desk do we have to Power Walk the way you did, or can we just kinda saunter over?

  • Haha, you can saunter. I was in an extra hyper mood the day we filmed!

  • Whew! I was afraid I was gonna have to stretch before every trip to my neighbors office. Sauntering or moseying will be a lot easier. Thanks :)

  • i walk tons of miles a day!! ahaha actually i already lost 40 lbs.. !!!

and even my relatives doesn't regocnizes me anymore!!

    I LOVE WALKING!

  • wow good 4 u keep up the good work

  • Your marching around the office made me giggle.

  • Hello , i have a question how much calores can we burn using a bike ? becose my work place is quite far by foot .

  • Use a fixed gear bike. You'll burn more calories than walking. Last i checked walking 10,000 steps a day burns about 500 calories. Riding a fixie outside on moderate terrain for 5 miles burns around 800. Bunch of variables though...

  • i live in the 5th floor and i climb the stairs instead of useing the lift

  • Same! The few times I do take the elevator I always get on and see people pushing the button for the 2nd floor. If you only have to walk up one flight of the stairs then definitely walk! Its a great way to stay mobile, and actually saves time over waiting for the elevator.

  • if you live a distance away from work, drive to within a mile then walk, or catch public transport & walk combo

  • When shopping instead of trying to find the closest parking spot why not park farther away so you have to walk more. I know most people want the convenience of being close to the mall when they go shopping but if you want to lose weight park farther away to get more walking in your days. This also can be for people who go to work too. Instead of parking close to your building park further away. Hope this helps! =)

  • instead of tying my dogs leash to my scooter, i guess i'll start 2 actually walk

  • Thanks diethealth! =] walking is my FAVORITE way of exercising. I love to power-walk. I do alot of the time. Thanks for doing a segment on this. :)

  • I park farther away from the entrance of stores or malls. I also choose to walk a longer campus route to my classes.

  • I am going to buy a new pedometer :]

  • if you really want to lose weight go to: combatingfat.blogspot, com

  • work at a hospital I walk all day long.

  • Over the summer, when I worked every day at the hospital (I needed tuition money, lol), I lost a lot of weight from the constant walking! Of course then classes started, and it all came back =(

  • find the longest way to walk from point A to point B in the office.

If it's walkable distance to run errands. walk instead of drive/public transportation. save money this way too!

  • You can park farther away from the grocery store or any other store so that you will walk a greater distance to get to the destination. :)

  • I walk around my neighborhood every afternoon after i eat dinner. :) for about an hour.

  • and fart to release gas

  • lmao?

  • why the question mark?

  • I think im gonna go for a walk to mc donalds then to the chippee then to the pub that should do it!

  • that power walking in the office was funny..

  • i love this youtube channel always got good info on it ,

i find that if i go for a brisk walk before working out ( handy if you go to a gym) when i work out i have more energy and it is easier to do a more intense workout.

  • adding the last name??? ooo

  • if u dont live close to work park far away in the lot so that u have to walk a little and usually the far parking spots are open so works out well

  • Walk around your local drugstore for a couple of laps... to find a pedometer. They're relatively cheap unless you want ALL the bells & whistles. Sometimes, HMO's will give them away at health fairs.

  • I love walking, but for me its so hard to be motivated to keep going and do it everyday, because I live in minnesota where the weather randomly gets too cold, and i live about a mile from town so there no where to rest and warm up... I try though

  • At which rate should those 10k steps be taken to be most efficient at burning calories? I've started walking little more than 10 kilometers every morning (im able to) which takes about 2h to complete. With a goal set at 1,5h.

Just have to state that the mp3-player is what makes this quite boring ordeal bareable! Great way to listen to your fav music and clear your mind for the day, not having to hear the steps, panting, traffic etc.

  • if your mp3 player ever gets broken try counting your steps, or some other frequently occuring noise or sight. if you go with the steps, and you have one of those step dealies see if your counting matches up with it, then see if you can try to trick it... makes for some interesting challenge

  • I love how you personify walking to the water cooler Etc! lol =]

-take pets out for walks =]

  • OMG:O you didn't say: "I'm Sarah, your host!" WHAT IS HAPPENING????

  • I'm trying to switch things up a bit, you don't like? I can go back? haha

  • no it's okay:D do whatever you want! i'll watch the videos anyway;)

    keep up the good work!

  • i was just thinking about the possibility of walking now that it is getting warmer out. =)

  • park your car farther away to anywhere you drive to, as in the store.

  • take the stairs, not the elevator

  • Most people get two 15 minute breaks. I walk during mine (on a college campus) and sometimes walk home, which gives me around 9,000 steps. Use the stairs for extra calorie burning if the weather is bad and you can't walk.

  • lmaoooo

  • hahahahaahha

  • I was jokingly power walking in the office to get the point across that i was exercising rather than leisurely walking around the office.. I don't walk like that all the time

  • LOL i was going to say something about that. Id be like look at that goof ball walking around the office haha

  • thats a relief lol ya i figured thats what it was

  • How many miles would 10,000 steps be? roughly

  • This is awesome I think it's the best video you guys have put out. It helps me think more about practically incorporating exercise into everyday life.

  • stairs!

  • Im a student, so rather than taking the bus, i always just walk from place to place. Plus my girlfriend lives about 5 miles away, so I walk to go visit her almost daily.

  • One thing a lot of people can do to increase their steps and general health: TAKE THE STAIRS!

  • 10,000 holy _______. that s a lot, it's like walking for like 2 or more hours ..

  • I try to do everything that was listed in this video. It's amazing how much it actually works. And it does give you more energy when you head back to the office. After my 30 min. walk at lunch time, I always feel more awake and ready to finish my work for the day.

  • hmm, ten thousand. this is pretty interesting.

  • helpfull :]

    thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cool
