so cute nice babies. I my self have recently had convict babies and these fish just breed like crazy. I have 2 batches that are a week apart from each other and I have 1 soul living from a batch that I never knew I had. The parents are 2 black males and 2 pink females that bonded. I have pink and black convicts now. I also removed the parents and my other cichildes and barbs out to a different tank so the babies can grow up :)
@panais2011 Odds are, no. The striped gene is dominant. Even if you had a striped male and a pink female, the male would have to have the pink gene, since it's recessive to get pink babies. Unless your pair has hidden pink genes, the major odds are that you will get striped fry. If you want pink ones, get pink ones
++HELP PLEASE++ my convict pair have free swimming fry how long can they stay with the parents?? and can i still do water changes with eggs or fry??
Hey, I have convicts but they wont breed! I have 3 males and one female, but only 2 of them are with the female and they wont breed. They are in a 55g tank with 2 jewel cichlids, 1 oscar, 1 jack dempsey, and 1 green terror that are between 3-4inches
seperate the male and female and you will have eggs in a couple days, when other fish are in the tank they are stressed and wont breed especially with the gt and oscar and if you are successful the parents will likely eat the fry, but they will take care of them if the male and female are alone in the tank
thanks. there is probably around 75 or so and they are in a 45 gallon, i am just raising them and will figure out what to do with most once the time comes.

@panais2011 Not likely but you will need a pink female or male convict. also you will need a 20 gallon tank.
