  • Fucking scary. Could you imagine if it fell?

  • If there were no documentations of the purpose of this statue, I'm sure our descendants would find this and think that we used it as some elaborate calender.

  • it gives me the creeps its horrible

  • i'm truely terrified of this sculpture.

  • i adore it with all my heart and i,m irish!! only annoying thing its nearly impossible to buy a sculpture of it anywhere in newcastle..

  • I absolutely love the Angel of the North. I live just 5 miles away and go to the Angel 2 or 3 times every month. Sometimes to take photographs and sometimes just to sit there, quietly and think about things. My little boy Daniel died of Meningitis. He wasn't buried, I have no grave to go to . . . . I go to the Angel.

  • I call it rusty cause thats what it is, its an object made of zero skill factor or imagination, look at michelangelo's david for what it should and could have been like, but thats modern so called art for you pure shit!

  • @1965CAPTKIRK cynical...

  • @lolatmyaccounts The Truth Hurts, everyone connected with this vast waist of money, and cultural vandalism should be in jail.

  • @1965CAPTKIRK i would be proud to have this piece of art in my city !! you dont realise how beautiful it is .. in dublin we have a ugly looking needle called the spire and every dubliner hates it..

  • @karlzips1 No actually its you who dont realise how ugly this crap is, I suggest you look up leonardo da vinci's work, if it was mine I would sell it to you tommorrow the so called Angel that is, but dont you think us English have done enough bad things to you Irish with out vandalising your city with this crap.

  • @1965CAPTKIRK Ok, you're entitled to your opinion if you think it's ugly but to say that there is no skill involved is just ignornant. Why not look up how it was designed (including the land it stands on), made, transported and then erected before making such uninformed comments. It's a major feat of engineering as well as being art.

  • @gypsylurve I mean no skill in the artists concept and talent, of course you must be a skilled welder to weld such a large piece of crap together, but just because the people who put it up had skill does not distract from my point that its totally shit worshipped by people of little taste and imagination. I might buy a chimp and get it to knock out a few paintings I think he has a ready market here!

  • @1965CAPTKIRK But it has got skill as an artist's concept. This is his view of what represents the northern working class hard life - it's brutal and faceless. But also he couldn't get away from the fact that part of what he was designing had to have that structural and realistic creative ellement that meant it could be built. As I said, if you find it ugly then I get that (it isn't the most pleasing thing to the eye I agree) but that doesn't mean it has little artistic merit.

  • I live in the North, and the Angel is the biggest eyesore imaginable. Don't bother with it people.

  • Ugly, looks like an experimental aircraft gone wrong.

  • You're probably right UK1774. I like the "Iron men" because I can recognize them as men LOL

  • I must not be very artisitic. I hope they used recycled materials otherwise it's just an ugly expensive waste.

  • @PollyEll you actually have to see it in the flesh, so to speak to appreciate it.

  • I think this is a tremendous piece of art but not beautiful enough to call an angel. In my imagination and dreams as a child, angels could only ever represent a perfect form. Birds and many aircraft have truly beautiful wing shapes and I only wish that the Angel Of The North had a wing to compare with them.

  • @MrVideoRater1 It's just occured to me what this creation needs...the wings of a cormorant. Perhaps somebody into cgi could create one? that's something I'd love to see.

  • I love this angel with all my heart! I was there (again) recently, and the feeling when you stand close to it.is incredible! There is magic there! :o)

  • thell proberly look at it in 2000 years time saying this was the start of the new age............

  • its looks great but it looks frickin scary maybe that wasnt what his intentions were but it looks scary to me but very artist i guess in a way

  • Comment removed

  • well... it appears quite sturdy it couldn't have been cheap to build... i mean it must catch a lot of wind the foundation alone would cost a fortune. Its a bit harsh looking rather rusty and skeletal... it makes me want to like it... no.... no... its ghastly really possibly the ugliest landmark in the world.

  • MINT

  • Oh isnt it nice I love this its really big isnt it, and its got arms like as if they were wings ooo really good idea that, it s got no willy though has it I mean where is it? if it had a willy I would call it willy man of the north

  • i don't know y it is so freaking popular??

  • @0509112x Because most people like beauty.

  • It gives me the heebie-jeebies. There you are travelling up the A1, minding your own business, when just after Chester-le-Street, it`s there! Scares me to death.

  • i know i drove past it 2dai for sum reason tit scares the crap out of me

  • I strangely think it looks pretty creepy

  • this statue scares me to hell but its soo beautifull so i cant complain really
