  • The Davy Crockett Myth: New research indicates Davy Crockett and some of the other defenders may not have died as heroically as Hollywood legend has suggested in countless films. Instead, they may have surrendered and begged for mercy, which Santa Ana did not grant: execution. Famous opponents of the Mexican War: John C. Calhoun, young Mr. Lincoln, Henry David Thoreau, William Lloyd Garrison, and Frederick Douglass, claiming it an unjust, selfish, disgraceful, cruel, iniquitous, and immoral war.

  • @thisb3jayjay Not really new research, the Pena account of the surrender has been well known for quite awhile now, Gen Castrillion was the one who interceded with Santa Anna to spare the survivors who according to all sources were killed and died without humiliating themselves. Wheither Crockett was among those men is another question being that Susana Dickenson saw Crockett's body among the other Tennesian Alamo defenders as did Antonio Jose Ruiz who identified the bodies of Crockett & Travis.

  • The reason the Texans fought was because Santa Anna abolished the constitution and made himself dictator.

Only about 20% of Texas were even slave owners. Get your facts straight.

  • im sory but those 6 people that dont like this arnt americans 1 or 2 they have no soul !!!

  • the alamo , west texas , san antonio etc are AMERICAN , they were won in wars against the mexicans ( spanish invaders ) , strange how people claim the 4 southern states should be " GIVEN BACK '' to the rightfull owners ! the invaders who took and lost them ? fuck off mexico, and you should be made pay for your illegals in the USA with free oil , i am a naturalised citizen of the USA

  • @franreilley you're totally right! and we even PAID mexico for the territory we "stole" from it, which was stupidly uneccessary.

  • @crazitaco No, he's actually wrong. And the U.S., to not look like a huge douchebag to the world, paid 48 cents per square mile of land. They paid $240,000 and doubled the size of the entire country. That is a total rip off, and rip off's can be included under "theft."

  • @franreilley You are retarded and ignorant. That territory belonged to Spain. After Mexico won its independence from Spain, they acquired all that land legally. The U.S. sent patrols deep into Mexican territory and were understandably shot at by the Mexican army. President Polk told Congress American blood had been spilt on American soil (which is ridiculous) and Congress waged war. Know your history before you embarrass the U.S. with your ignorance and uneducated rants.

  • @thisb3jayjay , how did it ''belong '' to spain , did they pay full price to the natives for it , the land has been lost and stolen in wars for centuries but you only condemn the war that was won by the states , if mexico controlled the 4 southern states the illegals would just have a bigger trek north , through more sand ,

  • @franreilley Then I guess the same could be said for the 13 colonies. Apparently America isn't a country then because the British never paid "full price" to the Natives who had it before right? Well, then... franreilley has just stated that the United States of America is a false country, a country that isn't a country at all. Shame such a fictitious government is beguiling our tax money! Shall we call for a revolution? Maybe we can create an Alamo of our own.

  • @thisb3jayjay , well thank you , you just copper fastened my point , i am so glad you agree with me , stay well

  • Golliwogg APPROVES of this song.

  • this has nothing on charlie majors version

  • @danbit5

Porridge is on the ball though

  • Funny how no one talks about how the Alamo was all about how the Americans wanted to keep slavery...

  • @juddotoole1972 the Alamo was fought for freedom, not slavery.

  • @elmowantwaffle Read a book. Or if that's too difficult, google the words "Alamo slavery". The Mexican Constitution of 1829 prohibited slavery and the wealthy land owners who had entered Texas from the States were all slave-owers. In fact Bowie had made his fortune in slave trading. They saw the prohibition of owning slaves as a serious threat to their wealth and it was this and not any desire for "Freedom" that prompted their stand against the Mexicans. As I say, go read about it.

  • @elmowantwaffle Freedom to have slaves, ha!

  • this is superb! also check out donovan's version!

  • great video

  • I guess three mexicans have internet access

  • @friday0408

pssss. mexicans defended the Alamo too.

  • @mino210 "AMERICANS" DEFENDED THE ALAMO! it is the division "taught" for CONTROL, we are ALL "AMERICANS" NOT Mexican American, NOT Japanese Americans, NOT "ANYTHING AMERICANS... JUST AMERICAN! If you are so self righteous to HOLD ON TO A COUNTRY YOU "CAME FROM" TO BE AN AMERICA BUT FEEL A NEED TO INCLUDE IT IN "YOUR" DESCRIPTION.. PERHAPS YOU MAY RETHINK IT AND GO BACK "TO" THE COUNTRY YOU ARE FROM. I AM AN AMERICAN! PERIOD~!

  • @friday0408 I GUESS YOU TOO, FELL FOR THE "BAIT" THE ELITE "CONTROL" PEOPLE IN GROUPS, as soon as the PEOPLE UNITE... the SO-CALLED "ELITE" will lose their power OVER YOU! Using RACES IS A TIME TESTED "tool" they use many fall for it, BUT... A LARGE AND GROWING NUMBER ARE WAKING UP FROM THAT FALSEHOOD BEING FORCES ON US, I SHALL FIGHT "AND DIE"(IF NEED BE) FOR YOUR RIGHTS AS MINE, I do not see "A MEXICAN" or "A WHATEVER"... I see a man or woman. WE ARE MORE ALIKE THAN NOT!

  • @ozzyman1203, The Caps Lock button is to your left on the keyboard, just below Tab.

  • make that three bitches!!!!

  • I listend to this in class I 3>

  • Shit, now I really want Mex food !!!!!

  • Johnny Cash, Neil Young, David Bowie are the best acoustic guitarists of all time.

  • there is no such thing as srealing land, history is a story of peoples migrating to different parts of the planet, overtaking the land previously held by other peoples or cultures, sometimes by slow migrition, sometimes by force, I have no doubt that "westren civilization" as known in the US and europe will be eradicated , replaced by a greater muslim chino empire due to the falling bitrhrates of the west thanks to abortion & birth control and the rising of the muslim / chinese populations.

  • @doyawntsom i agree. i also think this great empire you predict will fall quickly due to one thing.

  • Someday I'm going to understand why people track down videos like this just to belittle Texas pride. I'm not looking forward to it. The celebration of one's folk heroes is not a crime, nor is it something that people should disrespect. To do so is to disrespect an entire culture, which is inexcusable. If this were a forum for historical discussion then it would be ok to question what one might call the Legend of the Alamo. That is not the case here.

    in the meantime:

    Remember the god damn Alamo!

  • Would anyone agree if somebody, someday, releases a song called "Remember 'Wounded Knee'"? (read about "Wounded Knee incident"), about Wounded Knee, many people will say "those rebel Sioux were in North American territory and they were put under control following North American laws". Following the same logic, the Alamo rebels were in Mexican territory (still Mexican by that time) and were put under control following Mexican laws. Please align words with principles, criticize unbiasedly.

  • @LuisGax76 - I think nowaday 'the Wounded Knee' is remembered quite well. The tragedy of Amerindians is quite well publicized now. So I don't see any problem there. When you are talking about the "rebels" - you can also say that Mexican rebelled against Spain. I think that the problem became when Santa Anna wanted to impose more centralistic rule. If he had allowed more autonomy, pobably Texans wouldn't have rebelled.

  • One more thing making many people (including me) "biased" is the conduct of Santa Anna and his personality. Things like the Goliad massacre do not make people like him.

  • @OlenkaWagner You're right. However, there were many other variables involved besides the autonomy issue. Beside the NorthAmerican settlers, there were people, living in Tejas, from many other countries, specially Germans, Irish and Polish, who, by the way, didn't support the rebbelion initiated by the NorthAmerican settlers living in Mexico. Guess why. Best regards =)

  • @OlenkaWagner You are WRONG! Centril rule could not have been enforced because the Mexicans did not have any governing power in tEXAS... Many taxes and laws were left unforced... The MAIN reason that Texas fought was to KEEP THEIR SLAVES! the Mexicans banned the owning of slaves and they would allow slaves to escape. Since farmaing was how the texans earned their living they fought to keep their property/slaves.

  • @JUDALATION

U.S. has been Mexican slave since 1965 thanxx to the two-party (one-tyrant group) dictatorship in control in DC.

  • @ KFTBXU If there is anyone, it would be Nanci Griffith...

Johnny was amazing, cut from a singularly unique mold...

  • 1 idiot missed the like button.

  • I am proud to be a Johnny Cash fan and mostly proud to be a Texan!!!!

  • ragged old flag was perhaps his best, but i love this one too.he was a true patriotic American, unlike the muslim mafia punk in george washingtons house, and their supporters. these are traitors.

  • Pioneros metiches; mexicanos descuidados.

  • Viva Arizona, this could be your new state anthem. Don't let Santa Ana illegally take over any more of your state. How bout Texas and Southern California, New Mexico and Colorado too?

  • The Man In Black.....I have yet to find another musician that has the same honesty in their music, that Johnny Cash did.

  • @KFTXBU Yes, you're right. I've always thought that. I first heard that ballad about thirty years ago on an old 8-track. Searched for years to find it but had no luck until the internet and things like YouTube came about. What a song, and no one sang ballads like him. Really, they didn't. The next best moving and patriotic ballad that I can think of is The Ballad of the Green Berets, by Sgt. Barry Sadler.

  • @KFTXBU try miroslav ilić

  • @KFTXBU

...and a matchless, deep sound of his voice.

    Z.

  • @zbig57 totally agree wat a voice rip now singing in heaven

  • @verizonviper viva liberty

  • @verizonviper Amen

  • why are their so many wet backs

  • im sure most are smarter then you though (there)

  • Because they want better jobs, I'm full American, although my grandma is Mexican. So still, they just come for work, enough with the wet backs, that is getting old

  • @the1randomdud3 and how about that rancher who was killed by MEXICAN's on his ranch, set up the Marine corp on the boared with instructions to shoot anything that moves

  • @orckiller91 And how about the 50,000 Mexicans assassinated by American troops during the Mexican-American War in the 1840's? What about the north-american provoked incident to start-up that war? What about the expansionist purposes of the Mexican-American War? That land belongs to Mexico, and it was taken unfairly by James Polk. Please...read REAL history.

  • @LuisGax76 I hate mexico so why would I read about it

  • @orckiller91 Because unknowing your OWN history condemns you to repeat it, many times in adverse fate for you. This is not about the Mexican history, but about the existing relationship between two very different cultures and their shared (common) history. Reducing the cultural-understanding gap, leads to peace and respect.

  • @LuisGax76 - but I've read that at least a part of the land was simply sold...

  • @OlenkaWagner The only territory sold was "La Mesilla" (north of Chihuahua and Sonora, Mexico), in 1853, because the American (North American) army was getting ready to perpetrate a new invasion in case of a negative answer (this is, the transaction was done under compulsion). Before that, Mexico lost 55% of its territory with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (if you can call "Treaty" something done under compulsion), which put an end to the Mexican-American War, finished in 1848.

  • @LuisGax76 Pretty sure also that in addition to La Mesilla, your president was willing to sell much MUCH more than that. As far down as Coahuila, Chihuahua, Sonora, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, as well as all of the Baja California peninsula. As much as the Guadalupe-Hidalgo Treat hurt y'all, it would seem your government didn't minding losing more in exchange for money. So be glad it was 55% and 70%.

  • @the1randomdud3 They steal and murder innocent true Americans. If they just want a job than they can become a legal immigrant instead of breaking the law.

  • @futureWestPointhero Really? Do they steal and murder innocent Apaches, Kikapus, Raramuris, Pueblos, Hopis, Arapahos, Cherokees, Comanches, Cheyennes...? (do I keep naming them?). These are the TRUE NORTHAmericans. Now, if you want to include ALL AMERICA (America is the name of AN ENTIRE continent), and all the TRUE AMERICANS then we can include Aztecs, Mayans, Zapoteco, Mixteco, Otomi, Incas (Quechuas) and so on...

  • @futureWestPointhero Tell that to the American employers who hire theit cheap labor. If it was´nt for those employers, there would´nt be that many illegal immigrants ;)

  • jeeze cant ya just listen to music without giving a bad comment on it?

    Woot go Johnny Cash

  • This music is a little piece of the history that builds the heart of my home- Texas

  • Amazing!!!! Cash, The King!!! RIP

  • I do realize that most commentors on youtube are dumbass losers with no morale value and the maturity of a 3rd grader and will respond to this comment with 'f*ck you!" or "youre stupid!"

    but

    Viva la johnny Cash!

  • This isnt about america being better than mexico or vice-versa! its a patriotic song by an awesome guy so that we never forget the people who fought gallanty to the death for their country.

  • @koarules Thats definitely true but America is better than mexico

  • @futureWestPointhero America is the name of an entire continent. So, don't compare a continent versus a country.

  • Mexico sucks. USA #1. :P

  • FUCK YOU BITCH I WILL TAKE A LITTLE MEXICAN LIKE YOU ANYDAY.

    Don't mess with Texas bitches.

  • Ha ! Ha ! Ha !

  • Remember Camerone !

  • @couleur42country Hehehe, good point. And don't miss Santa Isabel, near Parras, in Coahuila (Mexico), there was another great battle of the French Foreign Legion during the French Intervention in the 1860's in Mexico. The French Foreign Legion fought valiantly and fiercely there too. Despite they were outnumbered, they fought valiantly. However, Frenchs behaved with chivalry, and never created a deceiving and convenient distorted myth as the Texans did with El Alamo.

  • Remember the massacre of Vendéens buy the Colonnes Infernales (French Republic) in 1793 !

  • I agree.

  • English fuck head

  • @alblynch And remember the Heroic Children, the Cadets of the Mexican Military Academy in Chapultepec, who preferred to die fighting at the age of 13, rather than giving-away their beloved country to the voracity of James S. Polk!!!

  • this song is haunting i salute the men who this is dedicated.and also to johnny

  • Hei H:ra Stalin Ne Ampuu Sun Äijäjäsi Pois,

Että Jenkitkin Tietäis', Paikan Nimeltä Raatteentie.

  • @goldendoomer Utter bullshit. I would say "for Ambition and for James Polk!" NAIVES AND GULLIBLES, REMEMBER THE ALAMO!

  • @goldendoomer Why do NorthAmericans have ALWAYS to invoke GOD to justify their atrocities like invading other countries, assassinating people and mutilate weaker countries as it happened with Mexico? Would GOD agree with the misutilization of His name?

  • Comment removed

  • @LuisGax76 you need a lesson in spanish history and perhaps read the bible. it's full of war and killing.

  • @goldendoomer And DOES that justify other humans killing their brothers for nothing else than AMBITION? All the Bible is summarized in 10 Commandments, and from these, the specific ones the USA has deliberately forgot to invade other countries have been: (3) "You shall not take the name of the Lord God in vain" (no need to explain). (6) "You shall not murder"; (7) "You shall not steal"; and (10) "You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor". Think about the Mexican-US war.

  • @LuisGax76 Suck it up buttercup, and don`t misuse the bible , after all , Moses was one of the biggest land stealers going, a coniving one at that , European views , not the imaginary North American ones you seem to know so much about

  • @CarpenterTom1 In summary: (1) when you just ran out of valid arguments, you have no more resources than insulting instead of using your reasoning capacity - if there's any - (2) You use the Gospel at your convenience to justify criminal acts. Remember, the one who initially brought-up the Bible to this conversation was YOU not ME. And now that the boomerang came against you...insulting is your only resource? How pitiable.

  • @LuisGax76 actually i find you humorous, scroll down and see who brought up the bible first , and don`t forget , its only a book, or did that mexican soldier who id crockett tell you differently

  • @CarpenterTom1 : "scroll down and see who brought up the bible first" ANSWER: a user nicknamed "Goldendoomer" wrote me: "you need a lesson in spanish history and perhaps read the bible. it's full of war and killing". And then, I replied to this person about the 10 Commandments...and then you intervention came, when apparently you were clueless about the topic we were discussing. Man...I strongly believe you skipped your analytical reading lessons in highschool.

  • @LuisGax76 are you for real? ,maybe you can update me on whatever happened to Pancho`s manfriend Lefty? I skipped that class as well,

  • @CarpenterTom1 Well, I don't know about Pancho, but I can certainly update you on what happened to Agustín Cholano. Regards.

  • @LuisGax76 no thanks , how about and update on your view of Jim Bowie , or some other hero from the Alamo

  • @CarpenterTom1 The best way to close the gap between two different points of view is to be empathetic with your counterpart, so be sure I'll take a look on the bio of this person. I can't deny (I'm being honest with you) I feel NO simpathy for the Alamo rebels, however, I also believe SOME of them were fighting bravely despite their reasons were wrong (from my point of view). On the other hand, I recommend for you to read the OTHER SIDE of history on the Texan conflict and the MEX-USA war.

  • simple... just to say...

    Remember the Alamo....

  • *Love Remembers*

  • johnny cash said "young Davy Crokett "well he was 50 years old when he died

  • @TexasOutlawHunter09 And by the way...he was not killed when defending the Alamo fortress, as romantically portrayed by many official "historians". If somebody takes the time and attention to read the "after-battle" briefings by Mexican officers, they report the death of a persona called David Crocket by a firing squad TWO HOURS after the battle, being found below a bed (in a house outside the Alamo fortress). He simply harangued his people before the battle and left. Face it.

  • @LuisGax76 its also been documented that a wife of a soldier who died in the alamo as well as a slave both stated they saw David Crockets body among the dead from the battle.

Now think about it , did the Mexican officer check his I.D. , was the fellow hopeing by saying he was Crocket he may be spared from the fireing squad , Why is it so easy to slam a hero , considering Crockets background and history prior , I find it hard to fathom what your say is anything but bunk. Just my humble opinion

  • @CarpenterTom1 Which I.D. should he check? His driver's license or passport? (in the 1830's)? And about my "bunk": I find hard to believe in people who only see ONE SIDE of an episode of history. And for what I've read, you've only seen the NorthAmerican version of it. And I don't understand how a person who helped to steal territory from another country is still appraised as a hero. Maybe because stealing other countries' territory is the "American Way of Life"? Just my humble opinion.

  • @LuisGax76 read twice, comment once , in other words , what i.d? , my point exactly, silly me tho , I forgot , that Mexican soldier was Crocketts ol drinking buddy , so he knew , without a doubt it was him, what a sad little man you must be to have so much anger inside you , and forgive me ,not knowing your view is the only one that could be correct.

  • @CarpenterTom1 Now, it turns out that if I don't agree with you, in your words I have "so much anger inside" of me (these were your words). What an easy and simplistic way to avoid a serious debate. Instead of discussing based in solid arguments, according to you it turns out that I'm a manicheist person trying to imposse my point view. Nice "NorthAmerican way to debate".

  • @LuisGax76 nice use of words, I do wish you understood them better, hardly worthy of a debate,

  • Travis drew the line with his sword, not his gun.

  • it's funny, Johnny Cash used the word sword in the album and in the tv representation.. I wonder why he used the word gun in this live rendition?

  • I think this was in DC and a command performance for the president. Either that or some big event for a bunch of "high hats". I guess he just got caught up in the moment and forgot the lyric. I wondered that too, but I've heard several different versions of this tune and none are exactly alike.

  • jimmy, you and texas, 2 words, NOBODY CARES!

  • was für ein klasse Lied !!!!!!!!!!

  • Listen to him, REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!!

  • i love johnny cash, but i love Texas More

  • dont forget "TEXAS IS OURS " during the 20th century we were invaded by only one leader "PONCHO VILLA" they still want the southern states and we must oppose the invaders and cut off their support system which is welfare and an anchor baby law , i am an immigrant who obeyed the law and as a proud voting citizen i simply demand that everyone obeys the laws of our great land, thank you for allowing me to live in your country and GOD bless AMERICA!

  • And God bless you too! It's wonderful to see an appreciative immigrant that loves America as it is, warts and all!

  • Texas is ours!

  • @JesusismySavior7707

    TEJAS (with "J") is MEXICAN.

  • @dubbigot Totally AGREE!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!! (Considering the fact that AMERICA is AN ENTIRE CONTINENT, comprising Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Panamá, Perú, Colombia, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador, etc...

And by the way, the name of the guy you just mentioned is "PANCHO", not "PONCHO" ("Pancho" is a nickname for Francisco, and "Poncho" is a nickname for "Alfonso").

  • @LuisGax76 , thanks for the info , learn something new every time i log in , stay well and keep passing on knowledge ,

  • @LuisGax76 Actually it´s two continents, if I remember correctly - North America and South America...

  • @Bukfan1 Hi Bukfan, it is the same continent, and WE ARE ALL people from the same continent (America), with divisions just in nomenclature terms...North, Central and South. Best regards.

  • @LuisGax76 I get your point! But officially there´s seven continents:

Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia. Europe, NorthAmerica, South America ...

    Best regards.

And PANCHO VILLA invaded NEW MEXICO (Columbus), not Texas. Please, stop reading comics.

  • @LuisGax76 Perhaps he was referring to time spent in El Paso, Texas?

  • @Blademaster865 Mh, I don't know if he's referring to that specific period. There's a very interesting picture (Google it, and it will surprise you). This picture shows Álvaro Obregón, Pancho Villa...and John J. Pershing. The surprise for me is: Obregón defeated Villa in the battlefield, and Villa made a fool out of Pershing during the "Punitive Expedition" when Pershing tried to chase him unsuccessfully. Keywords: "Pershing, Villa, Obregón, picture". The Getty archives have a nice one.

  • @LuisGax76 LOL, ; D

I have seen that photo many times, the original at Ft Bliss in El Paso, Texas.

  • @Blademaster865 Great!! For me, that pic is a great paradox...who could imagine it? Each one of three main guys in that pic "chased" each other some years later!! Greetings.

  • I love this song.

  • Hey Fatts1, just to let you know, America was not fighting at the Alamo. The Mexicans were attempting to quell a rebellion started by the TEXANS who were not part of the U.S. at the time. As well, the Texans lost that battle but ended up winning the war.

  • Comment removed

  • Fatts1 shut up. Go work in my fields now.

  • You really must learn your history.

  • I play a CD with about 5 different versions of this song over 18" Cerwin Vegas pushed by a Mackie M14oo amp everytime a neighbor of mine has a loud obnoxious quinceanera. I live in California and this occurs quite often. In most circles signs of prestige and wealth are Mercedes Benz, beautful homes... in the latino community all you have to do is have a loud DJ or band and Mr. Bouncy for your kid's B-day party.

  • any mexican who dont get it, we kicked your asses for awhile then you won and killed all our men when we surrendered

  • Yes remember the Alamo....... The 141st / 36th, "Remember the Alamo", liberated the part of France, in 1944, where I live... We love them, Merci !!!

  • The French have long memories, praise be. Vive la France.
