  • IS MIDNIGHT OIL A COMPLETELY GAY BAND,

OR IS IT JUST PETER GARATT

  • The Oils in their heyday can be described in one word: Phenomenal.

  • .....One more day of eating & sleeping... **get that PG reflex dance kicking in** LOVE it!!

  • Peter should dance still!

To be honest I have 4 midnight oil albums and I never really appreciated them. A great band

  • Fuck. The best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry if you weren't there. You'll never experience this ever again. That said, can't some young tech-fuck line up the picture and sound. It'd make an old man who still thinks he'd like to play first grade happy.

  • Just imagine how many insulation batts could be installed at the Capitol!!

Not really needed. This is hot! The best Oils song bar none. Anyone seen Pete

lately? Rumor has it...he's rehearsing out the back of Parliament House.

  • I wish I was alive to see the oils, definitely my favourite band

  • @aikduck - Hi there, well, there's thebreak.net.au ...

  • Brilliant performanceof a brilliant song. Two of the best guitarists in Australian rock music, if not the best. Brilliant rhythm section and Peter Garret as a front man speaks for himself.

  • Yeah !!!

  • They were amazing live. Saw them many times in and around Sydney. Oils still rock!!

  • saw the oils at 'bombay rock' surfers paradise in '82... this was the first song they did... maaaaate, awesome... one of the best bands that i've ever seen... also saw them in '80 at 'royal antler' narrabeen , sydney... goodtimes, goodtimes...

  • Peter is wearing an "Exploding Head" t-shirt. These were put out by the ABC in conjunction with an advertising campaign for their radio station 2JJJ in Sydney and were huge supporters of independent music.

  • Have you EVER seen a mic stand up that high?! ;p

  • SO entertaining! Dance-able, skilled musicians, funny (WHAT is Peter Garrett wearing on his head and WHY did someone throw an egg yolk at it?) AND politically active

  • im 45 yrs old....fuck man they rocked,,,,,they were ahead of there time...i remember being 18 havin 10.1 on cassette in my car ....and havin place with out a postcard tape aswell.....rob hurst was one of the bestt drummers in the world then . !

  • Greatest Aussie Band to ever live

Miles before there time and are severely underrated.

The Muscianship and Power of this band will forever seen to be phenomenal

  • @Brohedia - and SO funny! A dressing gown and a Tibetan cap, at a rock gig. Gold!

  • cool as the best dude

  • Out on their own as one of the best live acts-absolutely brilliant to watch! Moginie is also such an an underated guitarist.

  • as good as it ever was...

during the glory days of music in The Lucky Country...

    if you were there,

you know how bloody good it was...?

  • What an onslaught.

  • Not in sync.....a pity. BTW can I have the same pills.......

  • travel back to the 70/80s and you could get the same stuff :-D

  • Wonder what the pill he pops as he runs out the door is :D

Great clip, pretty rare kinda shit!

  • what a fantastic clip

  • My dad was there working security. I was only 8 years old at the time. But I have an audio tape of the entire gig. It was my first taste of the Oils as a young kid. A great introduction. It's fading for quality having been played so many times over the years.

That's the only disappointing thing about the DVD, it's only 50 minutes long. I want the entire show!!!! Surely there must be more footage of the gig somewhere.

The Oils Live CD should have been a double album. Too much for one CD.

  • drew1974, thanks so much for pointing me to this (too bad the audio's out of sync). The Oils were one of the best live bands I've ever seen. This brings back great memories.

  • awesome - that would be the show to end all shows!

  • What kind of brothers did you have lol>>

  • I was at this concert. As a 15yo it changed my life

  • in what way?

  • This song got me through 13.

  • My favorite Midnight Oil's Song!

  • I was there, up in the balcony on the left side, I was so ripped I thought peter was wearing a yellow shower cap. lol

  • this is the greatest concert!

  • Peter Garret looks like John Malkovich in Colour me Kubrick.

  • Singing song of serrene..... FINDING MY ROOTS and my mate Midnight magic o!l

  • Holy Shit! This rocks

  • Peter Gifford now is making a fortune with his company "Wicked Weasel" selling the skimpiest Bikinis based in Byron Bay and selling worlwide.Funny career path after the Oils but he's laughing all the way to the Bank.

  • Is Gifford actually on stage wearing a pair of old Dunlop tenny's?

  • at 0:19 I reckon Rob Hirst looks like Dustin Hofmann lol.

  • definitely true that they had such inspiration in finding melodies, guitar parts were always a big element in their talent. They made me think of bands like XTC..

  • always came out of an oils concert on top of the world miss the old days 1990 / 2005 for me

  • Peter Garrett

    Best dancer ever-

  • hahah yes he is!!

  • giffo legend !! pete sellout !!

  • i was at the gig in wellington in 1984. yeah i also came out drippping and ears ringing! it was a never-to-forget experience, huge, dancing Peter Garrett steam coming off his bald head... I was 14 and - very impressed. at the time I was in SCANA, school children against nuclear arms. heard him talk in our town hall a few months later, too. great guy.

  • Im sure this was not the first song at the actual gig. The first song was 'Outside World' in which the stage was in darkness except for Pete Garrett who was motionless during the song. This song followed and the crowd was hit by the blinders (lights) and Pete Garrett dancing. And I agree, I loved the Gifford Era.

  • Loved the Peter Gifford era - great bass player. This is pretty tame & controlled for them actually, they used to totally unhinge sometimes. Steve.

  • this track video brings back the best memories.... yehaaaaa

  • That chord after he first sings "what the mean..." sounds awesome - they was it lingers, and changed tone...

  • I was at this gig and the night after. Both nights I came out dripping of sweat as everyone who was there did. My ears also rang for about 3 days. Freaking Brilliant!

  • The problem with being 4 years old in 1982 was that I was too young to be there. I can only enjoy the DVD now-a-days. I saw them in 1990 and although they were brilliant, I'm sure it did not compare to a gig in '82.

  • @nzoz1982 Well, I also have the DVD and it is the best I've ever seen. I've only seen them once and it was when I was 5 and they were playing their music from Capricornia. I still remeber it. Thanks for uploading it and letting me remeber the Oils and how great they are!

  • so fukn jealous.. my first gig was in '87.. was too young for '82.. absolute maniacs on stage

  • @HSVREDSLED doesn't that happen at every concert - fucking NOSTALGIA with the rough edeges worn away eh?

  • Oils forever !!!!!!!!!!!

    Greatest Australian band ever

  • When Im Locked in my Room....

  • also one of my favorites. That Peter Garrett, what a maniac!

  • Wow- what joy this vid brings. More Oils!

  • I couldnt find any videos on youtube with Cold Chisel

    or Angel City?

  • Easy... I've uploaded most Angel City (Angels) and Cold Chisel!

  • I always thought it was one their best songs, too bad recording quality wasn't better here.

  • love it

  • The Oils were the voice for us against everything that pissed us off about issues of the day! Hirst and Garrett, just electric.

  • Great great great. Thanks for posting!

  • no worries.
