  • Oh, yeah - never a dull moment in my city.

  • Absofuckinglutely great.

  • Dustin Hoffman explained it in an interview I saw him in. He said the scene was a tough one to get done. He said that they were finally getting it right and they even kind of smiled at each other like "yeah we got it" just when the cab turned in front of them. Dustin said that it was an adlib so the shot wouldnt be ruined..

  • According to the producer Jerome Hellman, the taxi driver scene had been rehearsed and it was done to look like an ad lib. If it were a renegade cab that had broken through they would have stopped filming first of all and they certainly wouldn't have allowed the cabbie to have a line in the movie. And the next line about insurance would have had to have been an ad lib line as well. Movies are not filmed like that so I have to wonder what Dustin Hoffman was talking about.

  • @pjlaner

Could be a marketing ploy by the makers of the film to create some buzz about the film. You never really know whether something that looks adlibbed really was.

I think it was Joe Pesci the actor who said that it's very difficult to adlib in a film. I believe him.

  • Yes, that was not in the script...great improv by Hoffman.

  • perhaps this was for real so the filmmaker could make his film as real as possible?
