  • Did this take place in Bland, Va?

  • o-si-yo oh-gi-na-li. do-hi-tsu? tsa-la-gi-s hi-wo-ni-ha??

  • Thank you for this gift, to the many children, like my self that have no direct link to their heritage but their souls cry out for it. The spirit of our Ancestors and Elders are still speaking into us... raising us up from far and near... reminding us that to Love the earth, and each other is the only way. To honor all things is the only way. May we ride and fly with those that came before us, and learn the ways so that those after us can carry out the passions of our people. Thank you

  • Beautiful....Thank you.

  • thankyou~peace love and respect

  • @iamearthbornami Yes, peace love and respect is what turns the world. Thank you for your lovely comment.

  • wa-do o-gi-na-li

  • @MADKingR Wado. Thank you so much.

  • I am sorry but I don't know when the next pow wow will be in Arkansas. Maybe google and see if you can find it? I hope you get to go.... such a delightful time!

  • I am the great ,great granddaughter of my full blood Cherokee grandmothers.

I have always been able to communicate through the spirit about things.I believe we are 3 part beings made in the image of our creator, spirit, soul, and body.

I want to know more about the Cherokee way of life, as I am being lead into the natural pathway for better health, I want to learn their ways and customs.

    Peacemaker 09 Strong heart

  • Thank you for your beautiful, loving comment here. It sounds as if you have begun the personal journey of a lifetime. All the best to you and may love and light always find you, Suze

  • ty for posting..Rick and I are actually pretty good friends so it's nice to hear positive and good feedback about the events that Rick does

  • Thank you so much for watching this video and leaving a comment here. This festival/pow wow is one of the highlights of the summer. Peace... Suze

  • beautiful! so very beautiful. i would love to participate in a pow- wow . it would be such an honor....but i am hispanic. and to my understanding i need to be a native american, and i have to be in a tribe. :( eaither way...i feel very privilaged just learning more about the native american culture. :D

  • Hey, guess what? Hispanic IS Indigenous! I can't think of a single Central/South American culture that booked passage over here from the Dutch ...lol.

It's not about being an honor, it's about, "This is one of the things we do". Go, have fun, and when the intertribals come up, go dance!

If you like how a particular one dances, take her a bit of tobacco, and ask if she'd help teach you what she's doing and why. Honest questions asked with respect shouldn't ever be refused.

  • Thank you for this beautiful comment. Hispanic culture is indigenous but weren't there many tribal cultures in Central & South America as well? I am not an expert on this! Please correct or amend. IMHO....I do not think that the human species was ever better than when we lived in tribal cultures. It was our finest moment. Peace ~ Suze

  • Hello, thank you so much for this heartfelt comment. Many pow wows are combined with festivals and are open to anyone who wishes to attend. Most dancing is done by native dancers but some dances are open to everyone. I hope you will go to a pow wow... you will not regret the experience. It is beautifully uplifting and sustaining. Peace, love and light always to you ~ Suze

  • wonderful video, thanks for sharing!

  • So glad you came by, so glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you!

  • Very nice music :D Indians are cool ;) 5/5

  • Thank so much for leaving such a lovely comment. Much appreciated!

  • Suuzzee5....thank you so much for sharing this BEAUTIFUL song/sound!!! Great video...I can't describe in words how I felt listening to this video. I love my Native brother and sisters. I'm looking forward to the Pow Wow in Orlando in November.

  • Osiyo,

Thank you for your kind words and for watching this video. The summer gatherings, especially this particular pow wow, are among my favorite things to do. I would love to travel to Orlando in November but cannot do so. Hopefully you will take your camera? :) Suze

  • @papo3332 I just moved from Orlando in January and i didn't hear anything about it or i would have went.Nice music.Do they have it every year?I know they have a Seminole get together that goes on down there sometime.

  • Are the people here are of native ancestry? or are some just dressing up as natives?

  • Hello, Thank you for your interest. All dancers are of native ancestry. This particular pow wow is an All Nations pow wow and festival, open to all tribes to participate and also open to the public as observers. The dancers' regalia is historically accurate and most regalia was made by the dancers themselves.

  • are the people depicted in the video, real natives? i dont hope so!

  • Yes, they are real Native Americans from several different tribes. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. Suze

  • Suze, this is just an outstanding video! I believe Selu watched over this as she is in the cloud from 0:53 to 0:57, I see her form as a bird, we have attended the Bear Island Pow Wow, and know the beauty, and ancient heart of these amazing people and friends. I hope and pray, one day we can get back to where they are and give this beautiful garden, earth, the love and respect she needs, and deserves.

  • Thanks for sharing, really sharing more than you might think, not just a great video and music, more than that, what humans can be, guardians of this planet, Thanks so much...Reg

  • Thank you, Reg...for seeing and letting me know. When we lived in tribal societies and were dependent on one another for our very lives, we worked together, followed the rules, took care of one another and cared what others thought. If we didn't, we died. It was a good motivator, eh? Each of us still has that ancient heart if we just let it beat....

  • this is nice suze x

  • Thanks so much... loved the pow wow this year also. Video upcoming. Those drums get right inside you. x

  • I also wanted to add that I am so glad you posted this. My digital camera lost all my pics from the gathering today (the first one I've been able to attend) and was heartbroken-did a search and found this. This is a beautiful video and you have such a beautiful spirit evidenced by your remarks here! Wish I knew who you are-may have seen you today. I recognize many of these faces from today's festival.

    Please, please post again!

  • Thank you for your lovely comments. So sad to hear that you lost your pictures. There will be one or two videos uploaded from the 2009 Green Corn festival. I would like to tell you when...but I'm not the most well organized person in the world. lol

  • Thanks again Suze, I went back today around 3 pm and, as I'm sure you know, they had cancelled the remainder of the festival. I was really disappointed since I had been looking forward to going back. A couple of other cars were leaving as I was pulling in and a gentleman in the 1st car told me there was a sign up that said it had been rained out. Oh well, at least I have this video by you. I hope to see the 2009 video soon. Thanks again!

  • Yes, I went back after the rains let up and found the same thing... so sad they had to leave and am already looking forward to seeing everyone again next year. There are some 2008 and 2009 Green Corn videos on this fabulous channel ... Spiderwrulf . And she said she has more 2009 videos to be uploaded. :)

  • I was there today and enjoyed it so much! adding this to faves! Please post another one!

  • Wonderful that you could come! It's raining right now and I'm hoping it will stop this afternoon so I can go back today. :) There will definitely be a video posted from the 2009 festival. :)

  • suze, thank you so much for your time sharing this beautiFul gathering...My grandmother was Cherokee from Kentucky...and, so much of my spirit remains in my roots..I love these gathering..the peaceFul flute of Carlos Reynosa was just perfect for the moment..Infinite Stars Audio/VisuaL..♥

  • Hello Sherry...thanks for your lovely, personalized comment here. I love these gatherings also and am looking forward to seeing my friends again in a few short weeks. Carlos Reynosa has a lovely channel here on youtube and was so very kind and gracious when I requested to use his music. Thank you again for coming by! Suze

  • the folksart motivs n flute melodies are same with hungarian, i know ,where is the secret osiyo, laslo,an hun man

  • I did not know that! Thank you for telling me. I love folk music from all around the world. Our music says so much about us all. Peace... Suze

  • wow, it,s great

  • So glad you enjoyed this video. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!

  • These are the "People Who Could".

Love the flute along with the photos*****s.

  • Thanks so much for this lovely comment! Indeed they ARE the people who could. At no time in the entire history of mankind have we been better as a species than when we were a tribal civilization. Peace~~Suze

  • Attended a day of circle dances in north east Nebraska several years back. It was a great day. When I arrived and saw the first dance and the second I thought I'd be bored after 10 hours. But I was swept away and the end of the day and dances came suddenly. It is something I am interested in learning more about.

Thank you for posting this video and the posts below. I might see you in Bland, VA some day.

  • Hello...thank you so much for visiting my channel and commenting on this video. I know *exactly* what you mean!! I could not stay away from the music and dancing ... and was captivated for three full days. Not the first moment of boredom or wishing to be elsewhere. It was just such a lovely, lively time! Hope you will come to the gathering this year! Please go to indianvillageDOTorg/PowwowpageDOThtm

  • Suuzzee5, Thank you very much for posting this beautiful music and video. I'm sorry to bother you, but I was wondering....I am not Native American, but I have great respect for their amazing cultures, and I would love to learn more about them. Can anyone attend the Green Corn Festival and Powow? I don't mean to be disrespectful at all, I was just wondering. I don't want to act like a studpid tourist, I just want to learn more and experience Native Amerian culture. Thanks=)

  • I am not an expert on these matters, but anyone may attend this festival. It is a beautiful spiritual gathering with some of the loveliest people I have ever met, and it is scheduled to be held each summer in the same small town in Virginia. Last summer I asked about the difference between festivals and powwows. I was told that powwows are closed because tribal business is conducted there, but festivals are open to the public. I hope this is helpful and I hope you will come.

  • Thank you so much for the information, I really appreciate it. Hopefully I will be able to see you there=) Thanks again!

  • You are welcome... so glad I could help out! Yes... I do hope you will come to this gathering. I will be there again this year, all three days. It's pure magic... Suze

  • Please see indianvillageDOTorg/PowwowpageDOThtm

  • Thank you for sharing such beautiful video and music!

  • Thank you for enjoying it and for taking time to comment. Much appreciated! Suze

  • Hey suuzzee5 you think you can do a an video od the Green Corn Dance please. I am doing a Native American Museum in our class. It would be a wonderful help.

  • O'siyo Klu... There may have been a dance called the Green Corn Dance but I do not recall it. What I do have is a lot of dance footage from this pow wow. What do you need exactly? It is going to be put into a video eventually... I just have not done it yet. When do you need it? :) Suze :)

  • Great and well done.

Thank you my friend for sharing !

  • Thank you so much! I visited your channel and subscribed. You have many beautiful videos there. Thank you for your work with the wolves.

  • Wado suuzzee5 for this. I was unable to attend, I am happy to see it here...

GOD Bless & Peace to you and yours

    ~K

  • Thank you so much for your lovely words! Please come this summer! My friends and I are very much looking forward to seeing everyone again. We have invited everyone we know. Peace, love and light always to you... Suze

  • Is the guy at 1:31 wearing a wig? (It shows him later on again towards the end)

Also, how come some of those women were wearing pieces of mens regelia?

    Just curious to know.

  • I wish I could answer your questions but I honestly do not know. You are very observant and I do thank you for watching and for expressing your interest.

  • He sure is ... he is known for coming to powwows and doing just that. He has showed up at many of them "dressed up" so people will think he is truly Native. He has also gotten a group together and is trying to imitate the Warriors of Anikithuwa that we have here in Cherokee. He is making money by copying their songs and dances. He is a disgrace.

  • this is wonderfull..

  • Thank you so much! I appreciate your watching and leaving a nice comment.

  • That was a peaceful sound.

  • Thanks for watching the video. Yes, Carlos Reynosa has a beautiful, peaceful way with flute.

  • Wonderful and thought provoking pictures!

    Truly enjoyed this, Suze! 5+Star's!

God bless, and the very best of wishes,

    my friend!

  • Those are some killer photos!!!

That seemed like a fun event to be at!

Down here there are some Seminole and Miccosukee festivals...This last year I was invited up to Billy Swamp, They do airboats and all that jazz, but the drive and the fact that I'm a hermit, kept me at home!

    Awesome, I'm glad I came by after I read your comment....Five stars.....Eloy

  • O'siyo Eloy ... Thanks for your kind words. Much appreciated! You can go to a pow wow and still be a hermit... :)

  • Awesome vid.

  • Possibly the last Earth friendly nation ever.

what a terrible price you had to pay.

It makes me feel ashamed to be a European.

  • O-siyo ... Thanks so much for watching and for leaving such a sensitive comment. I would not want anyone to ever shame in their heritage. Our forefathers did what they did, and we are not responsible for their actions. There are, however, tribal cultures and earth friendly nations in existence right now who need support and help ... That is something we CAN do. :)

  • brilliant, just brilliant

  • You are way too kind... Thank you so very much!!

  • this is so beautiful miss blossom proud to call u a low low of the highest standards

    Md

  • It's all about the respect.... You got lots of that...is why you like the viddy. :) Thanks for your kind words, my brother... Bean

  • Thank you for this beautiful video with beautiful music

  • Thank you for this lovely comment, Herman... much appreciated! Suze

  • This is beautiful Suze. Thank you for sharing your boundless insight and your wonderful ability to portray a page of history with such love.

    Lindy

  • Wado, Lindy... I cherish your friendship and love the poem that you shared here. It is beautiful and very timely. As always, your comments and insights add greatly to the understanding of this video. Suze :)

  • Forced to retreat from their homeland, victims of genocide.

Starved of mortal freedom but never of their pride.

Reduced to near extinction, yet their backs are broad and strong

They are the spiritual mentors, of a paradise, that we've but touched upon

    And their kingdom comes anon.

  • They tilt their heads with pride and wear the sun upon their face,

And feel the gentle breeze of freedom, lift their feathered, spiritual race

Aloft a world of ignorance, they soar with plaintive call

And a thousand years of wisdom, is soon to spiral in freefall.

Thy, kingdom come, our Brothers, all

    A kindred spirit

  • This poem was, not written in judgment! The spiralling wisdom, in freefall is the gravity of what we face if we keep taking. I wrote it many years ago, when I was inspired by a people whos only wealth, was the riches of nature in this beautiful world, yet in their humble wisdom, they understood the need to give to the earth, as the earth had given to them.

  • We must learn to use their wisdom to survive, or we will know a day when the sparkling gems of winter, glisten no more in the morning sunlight and the heady perfume of spring flowers, will be history, that our children can only read or dream about.

  • A very beautiful tribute to the most honorable & wonderful people who bring peace, grace & respect to our earth in so many ways.

You have captured their beautiful & proud spirits in this very powerful video.

    Hearts & Silver Stars

    With Love & Many Blessings,

    Donna

  • Thanks so much, Donna. Am so glad you enjoyed the video! It's always great to see you!!

It was a great honor for me to get to film these ceremonies and to be given permission to post the images. There are two more videos in process... :) Thanks again! Suze

  • This is truly beautiful! The visuals, the dress and colors and the craftsmanship are amazing. The music is uplifting and floats on the senses like a soft summer breeze. Thanks so much for sharing...Peace,Reg

  • Hey man ... thanks so much for coming over and watching this video. This was one of the most beautiful three days I have ever spent and I'm looking forward to seeing all my brothers and sisters again next summer when they return. Your comment here... perfectly beautiful! Hugs!! Suze

  • Suze, a beautiful tribute to a most noble race of real human beings. So much power, strength and grace in each unique individual. The beadwork and traditional clothing is quite astounding. The flute conjures feelings of being in nature surrounded by the spirit of a proud people who respected and protected the Earth we all share. They lived the same way for thousands of years practicing a sustainable lifestyle. I feel we have much to learn from them today. Thanks for sharing. Liz

  • Liz, you always have the most wonderful things to say on people's videos! Thanks so much for your positive and uplifting words. I appreciate your sentiments and agree with everything you said. I don't think there ever was a better way of life than tribal societies. Peace... Suze

  • Suze, Thank you for your kind words. It's fun to reach inside and really try to express what I feel. I resist giving a generic comment. It is such a blessing to meet creative people and see/hear their work. I have much respect for anyone who tries to share their voice. I believe artists need support not criticism. You, too, seem to share that belief. Yes, I believe tribal life is the only sane and sustainable solution. Thanks for being our wonderful friend, sharing your beautiful videos. Liz

  • You are the heart of YouTube, Liz. Thank you for all the beauty that your channel adds to the world.. and thank you for all the encouragement you provide to artists of all types. Wish we could clone you.... :)) Hugs!! Suze

  • *blush* Suze, I couldn't do it without you. xxoo, Liz

  • Very atmospheric and harmonic pictures in combination with this nativ pipe ... o - i like it pretty much. Thank you a lot for posting

  • Wonderful, thanks for posting Suze!

  • Thanks so much, Evelyn! So glad you enjoyed this video.

I owe you a letter...have not forgotten you!

There's no sipping tea on the back deck these days... lol ... freezing cold and raining...

  • Well your favourite season is approaching, is it not? ;)

Glad you mentioned the letter - but please don't feel obliged - I know what it's like, one simply doesn't always get around to replying.

    Greetings from Holland Suze,

    keep well!

    Evelyn

  • Winter + cameras = a good team! :)

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

    Best... Suze

    Folker

  • {{{Folker}}} Always so wonderful to see you! You have been putting some fantastic music out here lately. Thank you for enjoying this video and for your wonderful comments. The Green Corn ceremonies were a treat for the eyes and the ears... but mostly they were a treat for the heart.

  • Much respect from Indian Plundering Massachusetts. 5 beautiful ***** for this beauty! Peace♥

  • Thank you for your wonderful comments and for all those stars! The same thing could be said about every state in the Union. The same thing has happened to all the beautiful tribal societies all over the world. If only we still lived in a mutually dependent fashion the way tribes do, our planet would still be clean and healthy and our world would not be crumbling down around us.

  • Lovely, Suze! I, too, feel a connection to the Native way of life. We attend at least one PowWow a year. One of Canada's largest is held at Wikwemikong, a 20 minute drive from where I reside. They are quite the spectacle - haunting and rythmic - glorious dress and colours.

I will send this to my friend Chirogirl, who just discovered her Cherokee heritage.

  • O'siyo Suze! Thank you Chuck for sending this video...and thank you Suze for bringing it to us----just wonderful and very thoughtful!!! I want to be there next year. If anyone knows the dates, or contact info, I sure would appreciate it.

    Yvonnedaquadoa,

    Danadagovhi

  • O'siyo Yvonne!

I am so glad you enjoyed this video...it was a joy and a pleasure to make. There will be two more videos coming on this same pow wow. Hope you will come next year...that would be awesome! The pow wow was held in a tiny little town in the mountains. It will be held from July 24-26, 2009.

    Danadagovhi

  • Thank you for such a lovely comment, Chuck. Thanks also for sharing this video with Yvonne. Sounds like the pow wow you attend is a beautiful one. I have never spent a more spiritual and beautiful three days than the ones I spent with the wonderful people who hosted and danced at this pow wow. I cannot wait for them to return next year! Maybe I will also get to a Northern Circle one day...

  • Wow, Suuzzee, you are amazing. :)My hand is getting tired reaching for those five stars on your vids. hehe

    Rocket

  • Hi there Rocket... thanks for your kind words and all those stars. They're going to do the same ceremony next summer in the same little town. This is a Southern Host Drum (Southern Circle) and there are pow wows closer to you, although they would be Northern Circles up your way. I haven't been to a Northern Circle and would love to go to one sometime. I encourage you to go if there is a festival/pow wow close by. Awesome music and wonderful people. Great food too... vegetables ... lol

  • Great job with the video Suze:) They have a similar pow wow here in Carolina every year! It was kinda far for me to go, but I think I will go next year:) Very interesting! 5*****

  • Good morning, Jane. Thanks so much for kind words and starry things! :) I highly recommend that you go if you can. I was glued to the ceremonies for three straight days. Never heard more beautiful music or met a more beautiful group of people. I look forward to attending again next summer. As a musician, I think you would love the experience of participating in a festival/pow wow. Suze

  • Wonderful video. And I love the flute music. Thank you for posting the link to Carlos Reynosa. 5*****

  • Thank you for your wonderful comments and for all those stars! Carlos Reynosa's music is brilliant and he was very gracious and generous to let me use this beautiful flute piece. "Baby Blue" is a song he wrote for his sister.

  • Great shots, Suze! And what more perfect music to remind us of the legacy that still thrives in those mountains.

  • Thanks for your kindness, Moosie. Carlos Reynosa was very generous and gracious to give permission to use his beautiful flute music. This is a piece he wrote for his sister.

  • Thanks Suuzzee - reminds me very much of my Celtic ancestors 2500 years ago.

  • Hi Mace...thanks for stopping by. The Celts (Irish) and Native Americans actually fit together quite well in their view of many things... Lots of similarities...

  • suuzzee5.

That was truly fantastic, yes the Native Americans have a certain magic very hard to define!

Thank you for this wonderful video!!!

    5*****

    Rick

  • Thank you, Rick, for this wonderful comment you have left... also for all those stars!! I think that tribal cultures have magic because they are in tune with the spirits and the natural rhythms of the earth. Their way of things, the old ways, suits me well. :)

  • A wonderful video... great pictures and music!

And many thanks for all the information.

    5*****

I've always had great respect for the Native Americans, and their wisdom and harmony with nature.

Peace for all them, and may come peace to the world.

  • Hello Isolde ... Thank you for such a wonderful, wonderful comment and for all those stars! The old ways are always more in tune with wisdom and harmony and nature than modern ways. I stand along side you in my prayers for peace.

You certainly have an interesting channel. I'm going to go over and check things out a bit. :)

  • " Stand tall as the tree, live strong like the mountain, be gentel as the Spring breeze, keep the warmth of the Summer sun in you're heart; and The Great Spirit will always be with you"

  • Suze, this video is nothing short but amazing. The photo's you captured and the music all captures the true essence of this event. It's almost as good as being there in person. The music is so beautiful and, in a way, so haunting. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video with us. 5 stars and in my favorites

  • Mark, your comments mean so much coming from someone with your natural talent...thank you!! There are 1-2 more videos coming, both motion rather than stills...but will have stills in some places. They're roughed out now.

Yes, this native flute is beautifully haunting. It keeps me centered. Carlos Reynosa was very gracious to allow the use of his music for this video. I am so grateful to him and to the folks at the pow wow for letting me use their images, as well.

  • Very nice video Suze! I remember going to powwows as a kid and being in complete awe. It was such an alluring and beautiful experience. I'm from a different region, so the sights were different, but this still brought back found memories. Thanks for the recollection!

  • Hello Josef, thank you so very much for such an inspiring comment. I'm so glad this video brought back some good memories for you. I go to native festivals and pow wows whenever I can. I agree with all that you said... complete awe... alluring... beautiful experience.

I see that I have missed some recent videos from your channel. Will go catch up on you this morning. :) The share function not working is driving us all a little crazy.

Peace and light, my brother... Suze

  • Good morning, Daniel ... thank you so much for watching and leaving such a terrific comment. Great to see those stars, too! Jackson was one of the worst but he wasn't the only one who messed things up. Wonder if we'll ever get to a point of national leadership where we're not out there killing other people...

  • Heyya dawg... Thanks so much for stopping in and watching this video. I have one more, maybe two, videos to do for this pow wow ... dances, prayers, honors for fallen warriors. I am also part Cherokee and am very proud of that heritage.

The last song you did is awesome, man... it's the best...you sound great! I missed it until now...shares not working right. Peace, love and light always to you... Suze
