  • If he's showing how fast he could play it then he really did a good job...however if he is towards the melody side..he needs to slow down a little more to espress such emotions and feelings as how chopin would have wanted it..

  • different people play different styles

  • Really good!

  • i cannot play this piece but i fashioned my own chopin waltz from this piece among many others and this is not the style of chopin. this version of the song lacks the grace it deserves and i hope i dont hear any other chopin waltz pieces ruined this badly

  • what is his rush? I didn't hear anything...

  • Chopin dedicated this song to a rothchild.

  • Jeez... if I tried to dance to this "waltz" I'd wind up in the hospital. Too fast.

  • he is nervous?

  • 12 people is jealous of his skills!

  • You can tell some old fart who thinks he has a refined music taste, from someone who says something like:

    'he should play it slower'

its just a masculinity thing - 'Oh no, I dont have the technical ability to play it that fast, therefore it must be musically wrong.'

Having said that, what I would consider perfect speed for this song, is one where during the ascending scale, every note is actuated but sounds like scuttleing (light footsteps). This is admittadely marginally too fast.

  • @100flobby well, you're just a 'know -it-all fart'.

  • Wow...just wow...I had to stop half way. He's just passing those notes as if he didn't care. Such beautiful melodies missed.

  • in terms of the piece he good do better on the difficulty level. i havent left elementary school yet and im playing this better then him.

  • He's so good!!! Kind of boring, but...

  • He did well on the piece but if he's gonna play it that fast the middle part of the song 1:52 should the same tempo cuz it's kinda weird that it started fast but why slow down, to some ears he's interpretation is good but think he ain't readin the Italian words written on top of the sheet music that modifies how fast the notes will be played.

  • Waaay too fast...

  • i love him

  • Incredibly played..

  • i really like this , even though it's a lot faster than the first recording that i listened to . but i love how in the main theme , it's really legato then its staccato . that's an interesting way to play it !

  • Blechacz is better!

  • this performance shows one thing, hes got fast fingers. But the song was not meant to be played at that rythmn making it sound retarded.

  • Your "too fast" comment is right on: I saw him in the early 60s play Beethoven's 5th piano concerto in Detroit - where he finished before the orchestra!

  • isnt the guy at the beginning rocky's trainer in 1 2 and 3 lol

  • Very good skill and dynamism. It is absolutely an impressive performance. However, I do not think he interpreted this piece properly; in other words, he is tone is too active or energetic, especially the beginning part.

  • im high

  • His interpretation is so similar to mine! I don't really like the hopping part in the beginning. And yes, the tempo a bit slower.

  • ....it's supposed to be a waltz, yet he plays like it's a race.

I don't like it :/ I can't imagine people capable of waltzing to this

  • youuu play allegrooo ... you havee to play itt sloww,.... coz' you have to feel itt

  • Bah. It was clean, but he played it way too fast and though there are dynamics, there are no emotions. Even in the rubato part it's just like. Plain and boring.

  • Too fast, and the first bits shouldn't be staccato

  • He's technically brilliant but the whole thing is too rushed - hear Artur Rubinstein!

  • incredible, but i play it better

lol joke, check out my waltz in c sharp minor vid on my channel :)

  • gah!!!!!

    he plays it too quick.

Some of the best Chopin players are Rubenstein and Rachmaninoff, do check their recordings!!!

  • wheres the emotion and passion in part three?? O.o

  • way tooo fast

  • I'll go ahead and echo everyone's sentiment: that it's not as inspired as it could be.

  • maybe he would be better playing mozart or clementi, chopin's not his thing

  • it's to fast...he plays without soul...

  • i love the song but dont like his style :(

  • As long as he enjoys what he is doing, and he finds beauty... in his playing, well good for him.

  • of course he's good... but he's boring. he plays is too fast, he has no emotion in it either. he should play it slower...

  • its supposed to be played fast

  • I agree with you. There was no contrast in dynamics and the speed contrast didn't seem to show that much.

  • @Bobogojo Slower is unoriginal; let's just say that's what most people who are trying to sound professional would do. This guy actually has class and plays with true experience.

  • @Bobogojo youre are absolutly right :)

  • I'm obsessed with how he plays this song.

  • mee too. he played in a different way. compare it with waltz c sharp minor in nowadays

  • @Flyleafsoup it isnt a song :P its a dance

  • Every pianist have their own style

  • I think if people could play it as fast as he does, then they can say that they are just as good as he is.

  • he goes to fast. enjoy the piece go slowly and get more feeling in it, he is not a bad pianist

  • boring pianist

  • I agree. no offense to him, of course he's an amazing pianist, but i didn't enjoy is performance, a tad to fast in some parts. I feel this piece should be played slowly and somberly in the first parts, and quickly and fluidly in those second parts.

  • I had a few contacts with Lorin in the 1960s. His mother was a key influence keeping him working on a gift that he clearly had then, and has honed into virtuosity.

Practice does make perfect, but it helps to have an ear for music, a dedication to playing it well, parents who support the efforts, and focus. I agree with DeDeutschmann on the clarity of the parts. Lorin not only plays the piece beautifully, but he adds expressiveness and touch that make the music come alive as truly artistic.

  • What impressed me most, was that the different characters of the 3 main parts of this waltz have been seperated very clearly and musically!

I think that it was sometimes a bit too fast, particulary in the end, but this is a question of interpretation. So I can only say: Well done!
