  • at 2:49...what would u recomenend for a 5 string? grow an extra long thumb? :D

  • @ATERIFA Hehe, well, I don't really have 5-string experience myself, but if I was playing a fiver, I'd skip the C (the first one with the thumb) and use the open D string instead of the D on the E-string for the second one. Or just skip both notes all together. But unless you've got really big hands, I think its physically quite a challenge if you want to play it like I did in the video but then on a 5-string. ;)

  • @YertleTheTurtle87 hahahah even then i have clubbed thumbs :O hahahaha. thanks the video man!! they are extremely helpful!

  • Really nice tutorial of you, like this and the other :)

    Good job!

  • Awesome Tutorial! Keep the Groove coming!

  • like it so much.

but i still dont understand the right hand in pattern1

  • @eric52129 Could you be more specific? Then perhaps I can help ;-)

  • U happen to tab this out?be a bit of a swine to write out wid no inlays.darkmosher@hotmail.com

  • amazing dude!! how did you record it? (DI or mic, software used, etc)

  • @porrymdq Hey thanks. I connected the bass directly to the computer through an old sound card that I have. The video itself was recorded using a sony camcorder. When the recording was finished, I removed the audio track recorded by the camera, and replaced it with the audio track recorded through the soundcard. All the editting was done in sony vegas.

  • Very *very* well done!

  • Wow! Thank you SO MUCH for making this video! I don't know how you managed to play that without a score... It's a very diffucult song to learn by ear... Then again, if by any chance you would happen to have some transcriptions, it might help the less talented bass players among us... But thanks anyway!

  • hi could you perhaps transcribe this big issue in pdf

  • Amazing tutorial...thks so much !

  • @Javic2112 You're welcome!

  • You are a beast bro...this really helps...thanks!!! =)

  • @elchuchoglz10 You're welcome ;)

  • Thank u so much:) it has been a pleasure learning from u:) i took me like 8 month before i finished it, but i just keep't going and now i'm done! Thanks! best tutorial on youtube! 5/5

  • @MrAbeo Hehe nice, I'm glad I could help ;-)

  • man! that's awesome!

thanks for the time and effort you spent shearing your talent and knowledge!

I've been playing bass for almost 3 years, and as a lot of people I'm my own teacher; So this material is a real treasure!

Thank you! and keep on working!

    Greetings from Chile! :D

  • @nachojaco You're welcome ;)

  • Hey, odd question---how long have you been playing? I played guitar for 7 years and then got into bass, and have now been playing that for 2. However, I've excelled far beyond a typical two-year player and am now working almost strictly on Vic's stuff, a man whose been playing for 45+ years :)

  • @ThatsFunkedUp Hey I've been playing bass for almost 5 years now I think :)

  • hey can u make tutorial for "us 2" by victor wooten

  • You should be ringing the harmonic on the 12th fret rather than pressing down on the frets themselves. MUCH easier to simply lay your pinky down over the bar :)

  • @SN0MAN1 Yes true, I figured that out after I shot the video unfortunately :)

  • congratulations men! great job!

    greetings from chile

  • @auschwitz899 thanks!

  • Thank you so much

  • @rxjuiuc You're welcome :)

  • Very nice can u please send me the tab ?

  • @basskace1 Unfortunately I don't have a tab for this. You'll have to use your ears :)

  • Perfect man! you're a great bassist! keep goin!

  • @mandel94 thanks :)

  • tanks! it helped alot :)

  • @BassAsLeaders Your welcome ;)

  • Hey Yertle, thx a lot for this video !!

By the way, is there a tab, cause : (7 on the E string while 12 on the D and G string) is hard, my hands are too short ><

  • @NatralKinnzd Your welcome :) Unfortunately I don't have a tab, nor am I aware of any tabs for this song. But I guess you are talking about Pattern 6, right? The stretch you are probably referring to is actually played as 8th on A and 12th on D and G ;)

  • @YertleTheTurtle87

    Thanks a lot ^^

    I was talking about Pattern 1 (8 E - 12 DG) But my problem's solved

Just another question : How do you make the drum sound ? (Just after playing de notes 12 DG) ?

    =p

  • @NatralKinnzd You mean in the first part? Take a look at 1:37, it's all in the right hand ;)

  • Been looking for a video like this for a long time.. Thanks a lot.. of course i wont be playing it right on note for note like him because that which is written and played by someone like Victor Wooten should not be attempted to replicate, but with some of the patterns in this video i can now make my own version , Thank you!

  • @CreativeSoundProd I'm glad I could help :)

  • holy shit! i wish i would have found youre video before i figured this out myself.

  • @smurftaco69 haha thanks man :) But on the other hand, you learn a lot when you figure it out yourself ;)

  • Fantastic work, thank you so much. First time heard this tune I knew I wanted to learn it, and you my friend have helped tremendously!! Have you read "The Lesson" book by chance?

  • @joquid124 You're welcome :) I have 'The Music Lesson' as an audio book, so I have listened to it, rather than read it ;-)

  • amazing great work will be learning this soon thank god for people like you

  • @smirk369 You're most welcome ;)

  • Beautiful ! You have it nailed ! But.. how do you get that fantastic percusive sound?

  • @rcoleman1024 thanks :) As for the sound, I guess it's mainly because of the bass and its tone. I find that of all my basses, this one suits the song best, because of its sound. However, if you have the possibility to add reverb, then you might wanna do so ;)

  • I love seeing people figuring a song out and sharing. it is so very helpful....

  • @nexusvision you're welcome ;)

  • one day... one day after 8000 hours of practice ( hit that mark :) ) i will be able to attempt this. it's such a beautiful song! :)

  • Sorry, hey again I posted on the wrong video by mistake! On part 1 after the thumb slap (right after the double stops), do you right hand mute or left hand mute or what? Thanks a lot!

  • @Murreh Yes I simply rest the fingers of my fretting hand on the strings :)

  • @YertleTheTurtle87

Ah, that's what I thought - thanks for your quick response!

  • Comment removed

  • fantastic, i was looking for video lesson of the lesson. :D

thank you very much for your work on this!

  • @olagerius you're welcome ;)

  • Wow, this is great! Thanks a bunch!

  • @tsup77 You're welcome :)

  • @YertleTheTurtle87 Hey, I just got back from seeing Bela Fleck and The Flecktones, since you are a Wooten fan I thought you would want to know what an AMAZING show it was, got him to sign my copy of The Music Lesson =)

  • @tsup77 Nice :) Yeah I still have to see Flecktones. I hope they'll come to Europe soon. It's still on my to-do list ;)

  • it's very usefull.. thx man.. thank u very much

  • @bogorbombastis No problem. I hope it helps ;)

  • Hey Jan,

  • great job man!

  • @jtmup thanks. I hope it's useful :)

  • @YertleTheTurtle87 YES MAN!THANKS

  • @YertleTheTurtle87 YES MAN!THANKS!

  • Great Stuff.

The part between 1:09 and 1:24, is it not included because it's too similar to pattern 2? i was looking for the slight difference with the tapping there :)

  • @bragoen Yes I left that part out. Mainly because it's a small improvisation around the main chords of the song (the ones shown in pattern 1). I tend to play that part slightly differently each time I play the song. But basically the part from 1:09 to 1:24 is similar to pattern 1, but played in a different way (at least on the studio version). So yea you're right, there are some differences :) Personally I like to do down-up strums (with dead notes) and double plucks there.

  • Awsome job Friend!! Great Sound!! Peace and Blessings!

  • wow man this is so impressive your progress has went to a whole new level keep it up

  • @Checkmate20k thanks!

  • wow man this is so impressive your progress has went to a whole new level keep it up

  • Is this standard tuning?

  • @RLSell1992 Yes, E-A-D-G.

  • Hey Wonderful Job!!! do you have a partiture to play it?

  • @agusnavce Thanks! No unfortunately I don't have it. I also think writing it down would only make it less clear. But my suggestion would be to use your ears, and slowly try to play along. Keep rewinding the video and see which notes I'm fretting/plucking. I really believe that learning something by ear is eventually much more beneficial to the learning process as a whole :)

  • Thats cool and very catchy.

  • thats my sunday practice sorted! brilliant! skill' ace' good ears' i hear it all now' big thumbs up! thankyou so much for your posting this, G minor? what do you root it to?

  • @exacly9989 Thanks, I hope it helps :) The main pattern is indeed rooted in G.
