het zijn gewoon hadels paarden, er lopen hengsten en merries door elkaar heen, de merries worden gedekt door de hengsten en de veulens worden in de groep groot en worden dan verkocht of blijven staan en worden dan weer gedekt.

The wonderful thing about this video is it shows the spirit and determination of human and animal. Not always a positive combination. Those of us who love and own horses can totally relate to the heartbreak of them being in peril and at a loss of what to do. The brave women who make the trip across to save so many are truly heroines.

I watched this a long time ago and I cried and cried and cried. I have taken up horse-riding since. When I read about this rescue in the Reader's Digest this month, I just had to watch it again. The rescue was awesome. It must have been cold and wet and awfully frightening but Micky, Berber and their friends gave all they could muster out of the love in their hearts for fellow living beings! I love you all!

Bullerbyjejen, I'm in the US and it was reported here that the owner had notice to move the horses to higher ground as the flooding was a forseen. The follow up to this which was reported on our LOCAL news that the owner was being investigated for animal negligence. I was asking about what I had heard on the news here and not suggesting anything. Pardon the f%ck outta me.

There's not an awful lot you can do about an overnight storm and rainfall. The owner feels as bad as everyone else. It's in no one's interest to convict the owner. He already lost 18 of his horses.

These horses gained the attention of about 15 million Dutch people, who watch the news everyday and heard about these horses everyday. I'd draw my own conclusions from this. Additionally, these horses are a small pride of the north. It just makes the question seems like a bit of a stab at the Dutch to those who were reading it.

...these horses were never intended for meat...these horses all look remarkably well cared for (especially considering what they'd been through) and many look to be Freisian horses - the pride of Holland. Make no mistake, these were not horses intended for slaughter (just my opinion).

Acctually, the poor unhealthy horse are the only horses that get slaughtered is a myth. I've seen video tape of the slaughter houses, researched the whole issue in depth, and the way these horses look is typical of horses that get slaughtered. Besides, Holland is a major slaughterer of horses
