Wendy Huber at 2:22 is an idiot. Don't go to UVA. They hire idiots like this. I'm a prime example that the GMAT is NOT a good indicator dear Wendy ... I graduated with a 3.9 GPA and did terrible on the GMAT. The GMAT is math and verbal only at warp speed, what does that prove? obviously NOTHING. B-schools get a kick-back from the GMAT scam. It's sad and such a farce, and to hear idiots like Wendy Huber say that it's an indicator is laughable, she should pull her head out her ass.
Ofcourse it is an indicator. You should almost never discount the GMAT. Like someone else said here, it is the only common factor that evaluates candidates from all walks of life and different geographic locations. While there are always exceptions to the rule - like a fantastic academic student not doing well in GMAT or a bad academic student with a penchant for aptitude tests - the rule remains. It has been proven that the students with better GMAT scores do better at MBA and in life.
I am in Keller Graduated School Of Management and I did not need the GMAT to enter into the program and I am doing pretty well, I think the GMAT is just a stupid thing to make student spend more money in an useless test just to enter into the MBA, ridiculous.
Big employers know that someone coming from a grad school that does not require the GMAT or GRE is l-statistically- ess qualified than the rest of the candidates that have been through the test. Let's be real!
You should be.. I studied all summer and I did horrible. Worst 4 hours of my life. I recommend taking a class on taking the GMAT bc books don't cut it.
It's a mistake to think that. The SAT is a completely different animal. Of course, if you've mastered the topics and skills, then it won't matter what test you take. You'll have a decent score but if not, don't be fooled. It takes work. You shouldn't be afraid though. Be realistic. You know yourself. If you really want to get an MBA and you aren't good at keeping focussed on your own, then you need to fork over the cash for a private tutor or gmat prep class.
The GMAT is important as one indicator of ability, but it by no means should be taken into consideration without knowing other parts of the candidate's profile. I think that the score in isolation only gives a part of the story.
It was a surprising response. As someone who is applying to B-School some 15 years after graduating with my undergrad, I realize it is probably going to be an important evaluation of whether "I have it" or not. It being my ability to study for examinations. Is my study ethic still there?
What is the rationale that the further you are away from undergrad, the less valid the GMAT is? I would think that this would not be the case. I don't think the GMAT should be weighted too heavily, but its interesting to have that info. Good business people do not need to be top on the GMAT, because there is so much more that is important.
I believe he had misspoken. I believe he meant to say that the further you are away from undergrad the less valid your GPA is, considering that the GMAT will likely be the new determent for access into Business School.

Why not call it an IQ-test? That's what it is.

The GMAT is one of the biggest scams around. It predicts NOTHING. I did terrible on the GMAT and graduated with a 3.9 GPA. Hey GMAT, kiss my ass!

For those whose native language is English the GMAT is an IQ test. It should be the ONLY criterion.
martinheideggershut 2 years ago
Math and IQ are separate. You don't "speak" math in day to day conversations so it has nothing to do with your native language.

These admissions people are such doozies!!! They make like $25,000 a year, yet they're so smug about their power and judgements.

Gmat is only a part of the whole admission process.....which includes ur wrk ex,gpa, gmat, recommendation letters, essays ....phew!
the process is indeed scary
styleboy321 3 years ago
I believe that it's actually gmat/work experience (interchangeable), essays, recommendations. Undergrad GPA is somewhere further down the line.

one of my friends got 770 in gmat, he's a grad from top technical intitute...with decent gpa...still he is getting rejections.....
he got rejected from
U-penn
U-Michigan
Columbia
Cornell and few more
I guess he has to settle for 2nd tier schools
the problem might be not great work experience as he's working for an animation company despite being a textile engineer
styleboy321 3 years ago
....or, he got cocky and just sent in his gmat score along with a black application.

Maybe so but if only a few MBA's are applying for the job, then the resume and INTERVIEW will be the deciding factor.

agree. GMAT is like the SAT, just a number. In fact, in abstract I don't think it means much

Thanks for watching BSCHOOLTALK!
I am the host of the show, Judith Hodara.
The GMAT is important as one indicator of ability, but it by no means should be taken into consideration without knowing other parts of the candidate's profile. I think that the score in isolation only gives a part of the story.
Stay tuned!

Is this series still on? It might be useful to have this as a separate channel that we can subscribe.
