I never saw this movie until the mid 90's on TV and I always felt it had some lame/wierd-ass lines in it. I figured it was just because it was an cheesy 80's movie. Looks like I was about half right.
What the fuck?! They edited out the word "stud"? This is too much. I can't take this. 'lol And if they didn't want these things to be heard then why show the film in the bloody day time? Just show it at night when young kids wouldn't be watching. WTF? I feel sorry for America all of a sudden. :/
Swearing is much more allowed now than it was in 1985. However, in 1985 there was no problem with the word faggot in the song "Money for Nothing." NOW, they omit that verse most of the time! Also, for the first time, they changed "faggoty white uniform" to "girly white uniform" in the TV version of "A Few Good Men." Swearing, violence, and drug use are more allowed than ever but you're not allowed to dislike gays, mixed-race couples, or any other deviance promoted by the media.
You've got to be kidding me, ;'god dam', butt wad ect, this was to racy, and now we have Jersey Shore, half the show is BEEEEP! This is funny stuff though, thanks for posting.
"Then, BOOM! We hit the city, baby". That one surprised me because the word "bang" was not used in a sexual context in the original version. As long as words such as "bang" are not used in a sexual context, it is safe for television, in my mind. Then again, this film did have some language that was used in a sexual context.
@Brewchief2002 Actually (in the original) he says 'Malaka' which means 'wanker' in greek. ;) Was the word of choice when I was a teen (you could use it at school without the teachers knowing you were swearing *lol*).
Wow, so glad in the UK we were never subjected to such dreadful dubbing. Great to see the cut scenes though, we never got those here. They should put them on the DVD.
The most hilarious dub on Weird Science EVER was when they dubbed over the words "family jewels" and they replaced it with "flippin gizzards"!!! I wish someone had that one!!!!!
Those edits are as hilarious as the "Son of a Butthead" audio dubs for the TV version of Back to the Future! The funniest ones are in the TV edit of Robocop though.. Thanks for sharing all this but I'm sure there was another clip where Gary originally said he was kicked in the family jewels and it was censored to "in the gizzards" lol... I wonder why Universal/John Hughes (RIP) never included the deleted scenes as an extra on the DVD.
@SuperSammyfish The United States, they have very strict (and absurd) broadcasting regulations about the kind of content you can see on free to air TV. Though even some of the pay channels show hacked up versions like this lol...
Awesome stuff! Thanks for the compilation. I used to see this movie dozens of times on tv and KNEW some scenes were left off the dvd. Funny enough, I thought the scene in the bathroom were they substituted farting with vomiting actually worked just fine! Haha!
there is a new edition coming out in 8-3-2010, I imagine it prob won't have the deleted scenes or missing dialogue, but it would be interesting to find out, hopefully they have the deleted scenes on it
has anyone seen the alternate version of the meeting with Gary's parents? Not just dubbed, but an entirely different scene? I swear I saw it on tv once............
They didn't say it was the TV Series. This is excellent! I watched this movie about a zillion times as a kid and loved the TV version for they corny overdubs...Great Post.
It's funny alot of ppl don't know that TWO actors were killed by a terminator, a predator and an alien! Lance Henriksen, was shot by a Terminator in The Terminator, torn in half by the Alien Queen in Aliens, and stabbed by a Predator in AvP. IMDB FTW!!! gg.
I guess Ripley finishes him off after the Queen Alien rips him in half. But that could be counted as a kill, yes? Paxton plays a cool role in "Slipstream", check it out. gg
I know, right! Nothing tops the infamous Die Hard 2 though. Everyone overseeing that edit, from the writers, to the editor, to that insane stoner voice artist, was clearly taking the piss. (It's been uploaded as 'Dub Hard 2 - Edited For TV'.)
This is cringeworthy! I've watched it numerous times on British TV and we have it with the original audio. I take it this is a version for US TV? I have watched a 'clean' version of Robocop too - and it sucked
Thanks! I'm a bit of a movie freak and I'm always interested in the various edits and versions of movies. Why they didn't have something like this video on the DVD is beyond me, especially since it was printed in 2003.
