almost every rallycar with a sequential gearbox and a rich mixture does bangs like these in every gear change, also the clio r3 does...what I love most in the cosworth or in the wrc (in this case) is that everytime you release the accelerator it sounds like a tank in full throttle...MAGIC!!!

I don`t think you fully understand ALS. It works, when off the throttle, by injecting a little bit of fuel into the intake, and retarding the ignition timing. This causes the fuel to ignite when the exhaust valve is open, and the energy of the fuel is used to keep the turbo spinning, instead of forcing the piston down. This helps in throttle response, as the turbo is instantly "on boost" when you put your foot down again. Dump valves have nothing to do with that at all...

@cossiepowered Ya my bad(had been watching clips all night and had a few beers at that point) the dump valve/ waste gate noise is not actually featured in this clip, not sure if wrc escort had one, seems dangerous for reliability if it had not though? More modern rally cars make a loud chirping noise when lifting of the throttle and this is most definatly 100% the waste gate loosing surplus pressure, most notable with Subaru's, not sure its more common to a flat four boxer engine layout

This is the antilag spraying fuel late into the combustion cycle with exhaust valve open for the best part of the duration of the spray. This way you can keep the turbine blades spinning at high speed and thus when the throttle is pressed down and timing returns to normal you get instant boost

@charmand79 Ya no probs:) As I said I was watching a series of rally clips and was answering someones question about what was that bird like chirping noise being constantly made by I think it was a group n mitsi evo, and left answer here in this clearly non related, fuel exploding in red hot exhaust pipe noise clip but thats what watching clips after a night out with the lads drinking beer will do, shag it, t'was no big deal
