Anyway, you're right, these amps are overpriced but you get what you pay for.

@joeb0 Amen! I don't know if you've played the TSL (You said you've been leaning more towards Violin, but might as well ask) but I'm curious to see if there's any major differences/similarities (besides price) that might make my decision concrete. Any feedback is much appreciated!
This amp is great, but can you recommend an amp which has this sort of sound for clean and can get a metal sound out of it? Otherwise I may have to get two separate amps.
I have one of these amps.....they are unbelievable......tone monster....you can get just about any sound your looking for out of them....a true masterpiece from Marshall.....btw....some awesome guitar playing by the guy giving the demo.
Another great demo even to an old road dog like me..lol thanks joe!!! I am buying one.... what tubes are in this one (stock?) I mean brand of tubes..thanks again keith
just one q? why deleted them? dont you cant stand constructive critic... what a such sensitive guy...dont cry dont cry dont cry youre a jimy page, your playing is good your a master, your a genious, is that wahat you want to hear... selfish and dont worry even if you delete this, in your mind cant delete from that...
Did you even read the description of the video? I'm not Rob Math. but the comments section on this channel is made for people like you who will take the time to use a dynamic vocabulary to express their opinions.
I've been a pro player since 1981.I've owned at least 50 amps in my career.I now own 8.The DSL 100 is the best sounding amp ever.Everything else out there is someone trying to improve on that sound.Yes there are amps out there that will scare the crap outta the Marshall R&D staff, but they will never be able to improve on THAT SOUND you get from a DSL cranked.
@lowijkvh Thank you,I also have a JCM2000 DSL100 with a 1960A cab and it has the thickest, best sounding distortion I have EVER heard. The guitar Im playing through it (Fender Jag-Stang) has some of the worst pickups japan could puke up and it still sounds great.I couldnt imagine the sound of this through some good dimarzio or seymour duncans and a les paul or what have you.And you hit the 'deep' button and youre punched in the face with a wall of tone. Its like a plexi on steroids.
@KG739 No to do something like that, you would need an amp switcher and two separate amps. Because both channels use the same power tubes. although, i was just thinkin about that today. I'm surprised an amp like youre describing hasnt been made yet.
I bought a used dsl50 for $350 in December. that's the route I would go. Its a great amp. Most of the tone is "you" anyway. I have a 2203 and while overall better tone, it can't go places this amp can go (extreme clean to high gain). I'd buy an original 800 only if you are stuck on having "that" tone. If you want versatility you will be disappointed IMO.
I've got a TSL100. I think the 100's sound better than the 50's in this series, just my opinion. i'd still love a JCM 800 though. that's the holy grail for me!
I gave this amp head an honest shot today. I think it failed miserably in comparison with a Single rectifier though :( same goes for the Orange rockerverb 50
For the same price you could get a 1987X head!!! I would rather a 1987X to this imo... this is a great head but I dont think that this compares to a vintage marshall. Anyone think this would be better than a 1987X for classic sounds?
no but it is far more versatile and also without an MV control the 1987x is gonna be loud - + you do realise the 1987x is a reissue, not a vintage marshall right?
Great demo my friend and nice playing, very versatile!!But hey, have you eve rthought about a better microphone or maybe camera?I can hear some clipping on the overall sound so I can't really tell what is what!Anyways, great demo!4 stars i guess...
ok....first of all ibanez are real guitars, alot of ppl use them as their primary guitars including paul gilbert. (personally i dont like them tho) and also if u had a PRS before ur dad had a job y would u get a new one? they are the most expensive guitars out ther!clearly u dont kno what ur talking about
AWSUM! Les pauls come through best for me because the point of a marshall is to be chunky but strats sound great as well as teles. but now ur gona say but im a prs player or somethin lol
what on earth are you talking about? if you play the head without a cabinet you will blow the speakers? that seems fairly impossible... i figure before you buy an amp this good try learning what you're talking about :)
maybe you mean that if you turn the head on without a cab plugged in you will blow the tubes or something, yeah...
if it's more than 100 watts you're good, but ask the music store for more information on the cabinet to be sure it will work with the DSL100. dcooper830 would know more about cabinets than I do. He's got dozens of amps.

i just started playing and i have a squire strat does anybody know where i can get a good amp for country/rock thats not outragious im only 13 so ya marshall is just a little to exspencive
You should. These are great amps, really. I regret selling mine. Marshall is starting to make them again, and selling them for $1300 with a 4X12 cab, an absolute STEAL if you ask me.
Looks like they know better than to stop production on a hot selling amplifier these days... The 2000 line is really awesome. I love the JVM series as well...
yeah, i just found it strange cos I've seen a few recent posts on similar videos saying "shame they discontinued them" and I'm thinking "no they haven't, I just bought one, BRAND NEW"
But apparently for both the US and UK markets they're done as people order them. The customer places the order, the store sends the order to Marshall, they build it then ship it over. Means you have to wait a little longer, but it's worth it. Just change the valves, Marshall's ones suck.
seems like all he wants to say is "plexi" and "over the top crunch" lmao. U can tell that he can't wait to crank the gain! great player! great vid thanks
i donno but recently i discovered that marshalls dont sound great unless their cranked....i prefer that kikass bluesy breakup you get from a fender twin...and i dont like buying in to the whole ideology that marshalls are the best and such..just because their promoted so strongly...
love my dsl100. sounds like crap clean...but green channel sounds amazing with the gain button pushed and with a BOSS OD pedal. clean this thing just gets lost in the mix.
this guy rocks. that amp sounds amazing though, i wish i wasn't so broke. they really shoulda used an external mic though. also it's got that digital fuzz stuff on the video. o well.
When you make the sound crunchy or distorted the amplifier boost the signal to get the overdrive sound so it would probably effect the sound volume too(making it higher).
this is probably gonna sound silly but the small box on top of the box are the sold together or seperatly? yes yes... stupid way to put it i know haha
he can kick my beeehind at guitar any day but its a shame the camera's recording wasnt the best :( otherwise it would have been the best video ever lol
I hope no one dogs this guys playing. He seems to be one of the most versatile guitar players I have ever heard. He can play just about every style, even that cool little jazzy deal towards the end.
yeh ive seen both vids like 10 times but he never shows that switch. i dont like the scoop but id like to hear the bass boost. I love feelin that bass from ur amp while ur playin live it really gets u into the song i think :-)
I have this amp and cab. I really like the sound. I play mainly riffy metal and hardcore. I have heard people talk about using compression pedals to tighten up high gain sounds. Can anyone enlighten me on this?
I have that guitar, it's great, if you're looking for some advice, I can tell you... I tested a lot of guitars, including LTD M-1000, Epiphone Zakk Wylde, a Parker Fly, an Ibanez 80's reissue, a Joe Satriani Signature (not the cheapest model, the one that's in between I think) and THE NECK ON THIS ONE WIPED THE FLOOR WITH THE OTHERS!!!
It's the most comfortable neck I've ever played, and the pickups are cool also, but mainly the neck is what made her my choice. =)
Or, you can substitute another cabinet for the Marshall one and often get better quality speakers (although the Marshall speakers are pretty good). Ex, a Traynor 4x12 cabinet for the same price and size as the Marshall: just use it with a Marshall head.

It's one thing not to want to read or tolerate swearing, but bad spelling? It won't be tolerated!!
That's anal. Anal is a real word. Deriving from "anus". Of the "anus". Anal. It isn't swearing.
That aside the amp sounds good. But all these amps if you ask me are overpriced.

What should I get, this or Guitar Rig 3? Guitar rig has the advantage of letting me easily record through my Macbook.

do you wanna play gigs?
pilotoatomico 3 years ago
you should get the amp of course.
guitar rig sucks at high gain and you only get like 70% of the tone the real thing has. Plus guitar rig has ALOT of noise and needs a computer.
Generaly the magic of tone hides in the details and details are only found in the real thing.

true .
man , get the amp !
GroovyGuitar02 3 years ago
this guy rocks. that amp sounds amazing though, i wish i wasn't so broke. they really shoulda used an external mic though. also it's got that digital fuzz stuff on the video. o well.

I have a problem and I even don't know if it is a problem.
Clean is very quiet. crunch is almost one time louder than the clean chanel ?
So what is wrong or is this maybe normal ?
partyboy93 3 years ago
Yeah I think it's normal.
When you make the sound crunchy or distorted the amplifier boost the signal to get the overdrive sound so it would probably effect the sound volume too(making it higher).
Zolantor 3 years ago
this is probably gonna sound silly but the small box on top of the box are the sold together or seperatly? yes yes... stupid way to put it i know haha
dobby240 3 years ago
I think you can buy the box(head) and the other box(cabinet/speaker) together yes.
But I guess you then have to pay like 100-300bucks more.
Zolantor 3 years ago
great thanks alot :D and ty for no Sass ^_^ most people would have a blast at me for that
dobby240 3 years ago
No problem, just glad to help.
Zolantor 3 years ago
he can kick my beeehind at guitar any day but its a shame the camera's recording wasnt the best :( otherwise it would have been the best video ever lol
dobby240 3 years ago
I hope no one dogs this guys playing. He seems to be one of the most versatile guitar players I have ever heard. He can play just about every style, even that cool little jazzy deal towards the end.
BREAKIT97 3 years ago
I've had one for several years now and its still a keeper...DSL100 takes pedals well, especially the green channel.
Mujabar 3 years ago
Everyone dogs this guy's playing, it only sounds bad cuz the quality of the camera sucks
bobthehobo65 3 years ago
this guitar sounds like crap ... clean SUCKS terrible ...
plug a Gibson or a Fender and you'll have a true guitar tone
MeewHouse 3 years ago
yeah, my turds sound better than you´re playing
LightOfTruth777 3 years ago
now THIS is an amp review. Kinda wish he explored higher gain more but still...phenomenal
freshaustino 3 years ago
Watch part one, he explores higher gain a bit.
charlesandhisworld 3 years ago
yeh ive seen both vids like 10 times but he never shows that switch. i dont like the scoop but id like to hear the bass boost. I love feelin that bass from ur amp while ur playin live it really gets u into the song i think :-)
jwalsh8 3 years ago
does this thing have a footswitch?
WestcoastRemedy 3 years ago
yeh u sometimes have to buy it saperate though. u can get a channel switch and reverb on/off or just the channel one.
jwalsh8 3 years ago
I have this amp and cab. I really like the sound. I play mainly riffy metal and hardcore. I have heard people talk about using compression pedals to tighten up high gain sounds. Can anyone enlighten me on this?
Cheers

What guitar is that? J custom? It would be great if I could find out the model
Zcarbon 3 years ago
if you find out, tell me aswell, thanks
rodletodge 3 years ago
It's the Ibanez RG321F, guys.

so if i buy dsl-100 do i get the head and the cabinet or what im confused
jeff223344 3 years ago
you have to buy em seperate, head or cab, maybe you can make a deal though!
Trisdane 3 years ago
Or, you can substitute another cabinet for the Marshall one and often get better quality speakers (although the Marshall speakers are pretty good). Ex, a Traynor 4x12 cabinet for the same price and size as the Marshall: just use it with a Marshall head.
markus777 3 years ago
Musician's friend and Guitar Center has alot of Marshall Stack deals.
TheGamingGuitarist 3 years ago
It doesnt have an even crunchier sound?
