I was really surprised when I checked out your band's website videos that you're not playing guitar. You're a good singer, it just wasn't what I was expecting. Is it hard to not be playing? The guitar player you have is obviously doing well enough, I'm just not sure if I'd be able to do that in your position.

Actually, it's more or less a conscious decision on my part. The world is full of really good guitarists, and it'w easy to leave Your stuff in someone elses hands. But to be a frontman, a real live 100% running around shouter frontman - that, my friend, is larger than life. And I couldn't do that chained to a guitar in front of a mic stand :)

Have you got any tips on where to begin? I've been playing for almost two years and thought it's time for my first solo. I can play the intro of Wolf and Raven at 90% speed( By Sonata Arctica, you know.)

Hi! THanks for Your amazing words, I really can't being to tell You how incredibly wrong You are ;) But thanks so much. The first solos I practised were simple solos, like Ace Frehley and Tony Iommi... then I moved up to Helloween solos, and finally to Yngwie solos, with a lot of emphasis on metronome practice, and then just comfortably, and SLOWLY building speed. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will Your shredding skill. Wolf and Raven is hard! 90% is something to be proud of.

im guessing your DK-2 was modded (hot-rails not stock, neither is the crome floyd....dinky dk-2 comes with a liscened floyd)

i have the same DK-2 with same finish.

Close... Hot Rails are replacements. But back in 2002 when I bought this, they all came with a chrome tremolo. It's not replaced, it's the stock 580LP... But what great guitars, eh? :)

Yeah, if You get one of the new ones the new pickups are sweet... You might want to get a humbucker in the neck position but otherwise they're quite good! :)

You're absolutaly right, most of my shredding patterns are three tones per string anyway, but I do have the capacity to use it (arpeggios etc) - I just almost never do when I'm shredding because I don't write my patterns that way... Shrewdly observed.

Thanks for complimenting me! I work hard on tone, but most of it is just being really clean in Your technique.

My gear is a Jackson DK-2, with swapped pickups (Seymour Duncans all round, PA/TB-2b (bridge), Hot Rails (middle), HR-101b (neck)). I use a POD XT for all of my tones, if You have one Yourself I can send You my patches. I use no amps or pedals.

i was investigating new guitars and proceccors... at last i decided to buy jackson dk-2 and pod xt... but i will not change pickups (should i?)...

That sounds like a good plan! DK2s are amazing guitars. These days, if You buy a new one, it has great pickups from the factory, eventually You can change the neck pickup for a humbucker but the stock ones are fine. I also highly recommend the PODXT - it's great. Happy shredding!
