  • even so i really like the concept of pitting a top player against 'the world' long may it continue

  • a House Divided Against Itself .. the singular figure has the advantage

    - who was it said a bad plan's better than none, some old master like Lasker or Tarrasch i can't recall .. you've got 'too many cooks' here, three super GMs w/ distinct styles and ideas, conflicting plans, danger of changing horses in midstream ..

  • tic tac toe anyone?

  • All nine planets disliked this video.

  • at 16:28, why not move the bishop to d4? you pin the pawn, and can force the rook to move, opening up that file.

  • @P1d40n3 he loses the knight, as well as the fact that the white rook on the b file is protecting the pawn.

  • Very nice analysis. Unfortunately "The World" would be better with just one GM suggestion, since theoretically, each GM could purse with a move a different strategy from the other two GMs thus shuffling from a 20 move calculus for example. But great game non the less :)

  • this is the most perfect game ive ever seen, even better than any bobby fischer´s games, i still think bobby is the best ever, but magnus is really close to that level

  • Fantastic analysis.

  • Great analysis.

  • At 9:00 minutes. Why doesn't white move to h3 and trap blacks bishop that is protecting blacks queen?

  • @jasonpatrickries Because the black bishop can just eat the pawn at h3.

  • @jasonpatrickries After bishop takes on h3 bh3, qh3 will come into effect, planting the queen in the white position and weakening it.

  • very good analysis thanks!!!

  • Knight e7 instead of c6 and then f5. Right? isn't that another way to play?

  • Anyone vs the world is full offailure. Carlson has only his opinion on the best moves and tactics. while the world has thegood and bad voting on moves causing nonproductive tactics and bad moves.

  • According to my opening book explorer retreating the knight to e7 is actually better than back to b8. Black is already in trouble from before he makes this move with the analysis tending to favor white greatly.

  • why he didn't capture the queen when they moved the knight to e8

  • @arsMSDOS oh sorry I forgot about the bishop at g4

  • Why wont magnus play for the world championship in 2012?

  • I enjoy all of Jerry's videos, but his reflexive use of "unfortunately" becomes rather tedious. He must have used it a dozen times to describe this game alone.

I realize the quibbling nature of this, but there is nothing unfortunate about a knight being trapped on the kingside -- it was a combination of poor planning (or perhaps communication) by the World side and outstanding positional play by Carlsen.

Nothing in chess happens by chance; we get what we deserve every time!

  • the world sucks, lol

  • good one! thanks

  • Sorry to say this, and it is with all due respect to Magnus's skills, cause god knows he'd destroy me in a game, but......

Magnus : The justin bieber of the chess world

Bobby Fischer : Michael Jackson of the chess world

  • 8:59

    Why not take the queen?

  • @RexPetrov blacks bishop on g4

  • Nicely done. I really enjoyed your analysis. Will look for more of your stuff.

  • you forgot about the possibility of playing the Grünfeld instead of the kings Indian at the begin, but gj on the video!

  • how does a GM think? does he read and predict his opponent's move accurately, just like a computer searches every possible way to checkmate? is GM a strong attacker as well as defender? does a good chess player score better in math?

  • @Berrymore84 if i knew how a GM thinks, i would be a lot better than i am right now. the different about GMs and computers is that computers of course can calculate much better, but GMs (and other good players) dont have to calculate everythink, because they understand the position and computers dont. If a GM is a better attacker or defender really depends on the GM. every player (GMs and other players) have another style to play and other excellences and weaknesses.

  • @MrMadMungo haha yeah that really makes sense. with years of practices i guess the player can become better but some players gained the title of GM at very young age, i guess this has something to do with their innate talent. my cousin didn't know how to play chess, after i showed him the basic moves he could already beat me in his first game. can i call it unfair? i don't know...

  • Can anyone tell please what programme is he using?

  • what programme does he uses?

  • lol! i was voting in this game.. the world was playing it's pieces all over the place. not following book theories and just plain messy.

  • he looks like a freakin goat!

  • Awesome video...finally someone explains it throughly.

  • at min 15:19 instead of black going king F7, should've went bishop c8:a6 taking the white pawn?

  • Good job JERRY, whatever things they say, they are just watchers anyway. They don't know how to say "thank you for the upload, people have something to watch"

    (PHILIPPINES)

  • Fun stuff! Thanks for posting!

  • blacks play is bad, he cant get ....f5 in then why bother playing a kings indian, blacks limited to queenside play , completely wrong white has the queenside play, ...Nc6, ...Ne7 is blacks start of his problems the knight stays there almost the entire game, the old way of ...Nd7 fishers only reply is where the knight should be played, or ...like you said ...a5 ,..Na6,. great video again,

  • Great analysis, very insightful. It's interesting to see how the complexities of the game of chess get simplified, and yet there is still a lot of depth in the game. Magnus's positional chess style really shines through in this match, and i'm sure in many of his other matches it's visible as well. Good vid.

  • @jilow Thanks J-low :)

  • @KoRRRRRRRRRRn Learn how to structure your sentences and spell properly before you even think of commenting on anyone's intellect.

  • @8mikomi8 I read your message and had to respond. When ever i see a comment such as this,I makes me think of how dumb can someone be to expect that simply being able to spell would relate to intellect.Hmmmm.Maybe you don't have any your self to make that analysis. Not saying your dumb, don't get me wrong and sorry if i seem rude but maybe you should not make such comments again.Thanx and hav a nise da

  • Es imposible que todo el mundo juegue contra un sujeto jajaja. que ridículo título.

  • @drexxar100

I've explained my comment before, and if you fail to understand it that's a flaw on your part and not a silly comment on my part. I was merely stating my own opinion. Many others whose job was the same played with more passion, I did believe and I still do. You may have a different opinion than I, but that does not make my post "silly".

  • good stuff jerry! What's your fide rarting old chap?

  • @chessdemigod 22+

  • "Too many cooks spoil the broth".

Now you know why the world lost :p

  • omg

  • I don't like Carlsen in the sense that he takes chess too seriously. The overall point of the game is still fun, and chess can be art in its own way. I think that he plays without risk and very defensively. I think Mikhail Tal had the right idea. Good video again, though. Thanks Jerry.

  • @123ggn You have to take it seriously if you're the number one chess player in the world.

  • @moviecritic6

Chess still is about fun, playing this way is not the way it's meant to be played, I believe.

  • @123ggn It's the way to play if you do it for a living.

  • @moviecritic6

Well that's untrue, there were many great chess players better than he who didn't play that defensively.

  • @123ggn You must not like Vladimir Kramnik

  • How can one dislike this? I dont get it? If you dont like chess videos, dont fucking search for it, and if you do... its impossible to not enjoy. -Great as alwyas Jerry

  • at 9:55 Nc7 was in my opinion a mistake because after f3 Bc7 - Qxd6 White's up a pawn and has a clear advantage

  • Weak defensive play from both sides. The missed a number of opportunities.

  • @brockunc i guess you should try to teach the worlds number 1 ranked player how to do it then.

  • The more there people in one team, the more messed up is the play.

  • ahahahah

  • vs world ???

  • Carlsens head looks bigger than the world.

  • They should have just let the whole world decide with the most popular move.

  • Very nice analysis. Thanks.

  • @corkkyle Thank you. :)

  • nice move, Ne8, it hangs the black queen just a bit:P

  • Jerryyou make great videos but you pronounce too many words wrong and almost every persons name in all your videos. Ohh and the names of the openings. Wtf sooo anboying dude

  • I find 4. g3 to be really annoying in a KID type of game...

I view it as white admitting he fears black a bit... or that white is too lazy to learn their theory (granted, the KID has immense theory).

Obviously Magnus knows his theory, so it was a bit disappointing to see 4.g3

I guess it just seems kind of passive to me.

One of the main reasons I switched my main line 1.d4 defense to the Benoni.

  • after white's knight moved to b6, why didnt black play Rxb6 followed by fxg3

  • Does the suggestions from each GM need to be different? Say can they all suggest the same move?

  • why white play a6 in 15:17? why doesnt black bishop take the pawn?

  • Is "The world" a machine?

  • @Marcello96ITA nope The world is actually The world (everybody)

  • @antonio8332 °o°

  • playing against a committee is a serious disadvantage because the continuity of thought of the single player is unbroken while the concentration of the opposing players is never single-pointed. It's not plentiful ideas that win in chess but concentration.BTW great post, great commentary as always. These videos are a terrific resource, just the right amount of analysis.

  • @leakycauldron1 Agreed. You have a collection of various different minds all trying to coordinate their separate ideas. Must be confusing.

  • the world fucking sucks!

  • I would enjoy this video much more if the commentator would not pronounce the word "Pawn" as "Pon". Really distracting from the content.

  • @billystratford shut the fuck up!

  • @BlackSN8K Ummmmm ............ No.

  • @billystratford fag.

  • @BlackSN8K Someone needs to learn self control..

  • @billystratford And lemme give u a cyber massage while we're at it

  • I think if the 3 grandmasters were; Kasparov, Karpov and Deep blue this game would have gone down a hell of a lot differently :P

  • @8mikomi8 Agreed!

  • @8mikomi8 well you can't really call deep blue a gm, but anand, topalov or fischer would have been good bets too : )

  • @8mikomi8 for your kind information Deep Blue has does not exist anymore..

  • @8mikomi8 I am about 100% certain that most of the world would have been using Rybka anyway to check on the three GM's moves, and Carlsen still won. I am confident that a group made up of Carlsen, Kasparov, and Kramnik could beat Houdini.

  • @8mikomi8 No because if the world has to choose from three possible moves it will miss the best ones. The "world" just weakens the grandmasters.

  • @8mikomi8 I'd like to see Karpov, Fischer, and Spassky vs. Carlsen

  • @Lattenkiste

    Fisher? he's dead.

  • @TheCosmicphunk no shit

  • @Lattenkiste :)))))))

  • Awesome!

  • How many people are actually voting?

  • too many cooks

  • Excellent analysis. Keep up the good work.

  • i took part in this game, and i thought it was a bad idea to play this opening against a positional player who seeks to gain space with his pawns

  • "...and the world resigned to magnus carlson"

  • hey jerry did u take part in this game...i mean did u vote or something

  • @knife071 No, I just reviewed it afterwards.

  • @ChessNetwork It looked like a bad Kings indian , its always the case that black must initiate kingside initiative and concede the queens' side earlier .... whether its a gambit with fxe or Nh5 prefer Na6 Nc6 is a bit dull and uncreative, Kasparov's games playing black are better examples

  • magnus noobus

  • @FDGOD74 again you mr "God" ?

Go kill yourself to save the world.

  • WOW!

  • Beautiful.. Nice vid.

  • So many stupid comments here!

I thought I was watching a chess video, but after reading some of the comments here I guess I just entered another random youtube video..

    btw. great video!

  • Hallo Magnus , not only your letter to FIDE in November 2010 shows that you are not any longer the best chessplayer , since November 2010 Viswanthan is also again the chessplayer with the highest rating. Try to beat my worldrecord with mate in 550 here on youtube if you can ... kindly regards from Karlsruhe , Germany

    Lutz Neweklowsky

  • tell carlsen to sign onto ICC and hell lose.

  • @warLock21X the funny things is that you don't know how to write.

  • @juNk8assuLproduction be careful who ur talkin to fukin nub.. actually i do know how to write far better than your pathetic mind can imagine, i just don't need to on youtube, mayb b/c i dont care and im relaxing, i know you need to pretend your smart every second of your life because you lack skill anyways, take a look at this game idiot.

  • @warLock21X fail.

  • @juNk8assuLproduction u fail caz ur mom shitted u out.. stfu u u wate of space

  • @warLock21X caz? learn grammar you piece of shit

  • @juNk8assuLproduction my grammar is far better than your pathetic mind can imagine.. i just don't need to write properly when im relaxing on youtube you fukin tool... i know u need to pretend your smart every second of your life because in reality your a delusional idiot

  • Don't agree on this but i'm not so good in chess. but why not take the queen of black instead of moving horse back ? they can't get white queen after it right>?

  • @deavactus White could have done that instead of Nd2 but of course Black's knight on f6 would then recapture the White queen. So it would simply be a trade. In addition, the Black knight would actually be better positioned on d7, with ideas of coming into c5 with some activity. There is basically no reason for White to make the queen exchange in that situation.

  • @TheSchaef, which is a very good example of the fact that you're strong when you're alone. The average of the masses can never be better than shit. This demonstrates perfectly what collective intelligence is: shit, fair distribution of shit.

  • there was no time to really discuss the moves because the organizers wanted the game to play like an otb match. such is life, but this won't go down in the history books like kasparov's vs the world match.

  • wow, the world played a really bad game here.

allowing them to vote on impression is a terrible idea. there should at least be some kind of discussion involved.

imo, the ne7 was the major problem move and magnus just piled more and more pressure after that.

  • you are a great expositor

    great video, really

  • I don't like world games. Everyone is reading the game differently and has a different plan about what to do. World games would work if there's only one right move I suppose but there's a lot.

  • very helpful videos!! you explanition are clear and very smart! it helped me particulary on the opening theories! thanks dude

  • Hi Jerry, Who is the world No 1. now , Anand or Magnus Carlsen? I thought Anand is the No1. and Do you have any video of Anand Vs Magnus Carlsen? if so please show us. At Last, Whoever is the World No1, I'll always be a Jerry Fan. You are great man.

  • @laypyuzawwinhtut Go to chessbomb. com there enter and go to nanjing. you can find a couple of Anand/Carlsen games there. Also it is a great place to watch tournaments.

  • @laypyuzawwinhtut I think Magnus beat Anand in some tourney last week or so and he's back at No. 1 while now there's there players above 2800 right now which is a bit crazy.

  • @laypyuzawwinhtut I think Magnus is no. 1 again since he beat Anand in a tourney last week or so. I think Magnus came in first in that tourney. But Anand was No. 1 for a short time. Anyway now there are three players in the world above 2800 so the world No. 1 may change hands a lot depending on the play of these people.

  • Haha did the world agree on a resign? Or did the grandmasters give the world only the option to do just that.

  • Wait a minute...this is assuming that all three GM's pick three different moves. Why couldn't they just work together and pick just one move??

  • @VitalSigns1 because every move can be a good move, there is a possibility that two GM choose the same move

  • Very clear commentary. I struggle with advanced commentary with lots of lines. Thanks for keeping it simple!

  • god magnus plays like a fucking god

  • Chess is a one on one game, having many people fighting over which moves to make causes black to play without a unified plan. Some of this and a little of that wont do against the best!

  • You know what guys ... In a book a found this written... "probably in maths class u know if Person A does a work in 1 hr ,B in 2 Hrs and C in 1 then all together they could do the work in 24 mins...... but in actual life it takes 1+2+1=5hrs.

This involves mot only mere maths but also psychology, behavioural sciences, economics, sociology etc."

I guess that's what happened here!!!

I guess Having good Pornstars playing against Magnus would have us won!!!

  • The World is pretty fucking Stupid.

  • @austinsemeta Actually Magnus should have played with me n my friends we also represent the world as well!!!

  • I am a KID player and this video is my worst nightmare for black, a slow squeeze from white with no chances whatsoever... :-)

  • Absolutely amazing. I loved the video and the commentary. It was great to see various variations that could occur. Keep up making videos of the masters! I would love to see more.

  • fantastic commentary!!

  • Kasparov needed to step in :) He would never have allowed the world team to get in such a pickle. Gary is still the man :)

  • Magnus is a monster!

  • @lajakl Yeah I wish that upcoming W.C.C. be between Anand and Magnus!!

  • Outstanding explanation of Magnus' mastery. You are an excellent teacher!

  • "The world" means just that: "the world" as representatively as possible. It does not mean "Magnus Carlsen vs The 50 top GMs working together". I think the main purpose of these kind of matches is to promote chess to the public (a great cause!) and not to beat Magnus Carlsen

  • Thanks for the analysis! Honestly, it's good to know the variations that could've been played, but I slept a large portion of the video. Maybe I shouldn't be watching chess videos when I ought to be sleeping?

  • Its not fair that the world has to pick from the gm's 3 moves...so essentially the "world" is those 3 grandmasters...=/

It should be a open game where the grandmasters can give SUGGESTIONS but anyone can suggest any legal move and the move popular move gets played..OR at least pick 3 moves popular moves of the "world" and let the grandmasters vote from them...otherwise this is meaningless IMO.

  • @lazimofo90 I agree w/ your observations on this one. From what I gathered, the match should have been titled, "Carlsen vs. Nakamura", not "Carlsen vs. the World".

I'm not sure why Nakamura had so much influence over the other GM's. Granted, he is a blitz-monster, but outside the U.S., well, "the World" never had a prayer.

  • What a wonderful analysis.Even a retard like me can follow your analysis Jerry.Respect man!

  • i like the emphasis on how certain moves can change the structure of the board down the line... positional play can be difficult to see for beginners (like me)

  • Magnus Carlsen with GM advisors should all them face Rybka 4.

  • Nice analysis man..

i Have played with the world team..

and they play badly againts M.Carlsen..

    Tnx for UP

  • Comment removed

  • Magnus is the future of chess hes only 19 and and has an ELO of 2826. Thats why Kasporov is working with him, he knows Magnus is going places and he wants credit for it lol.

  • Thanks for the upload!

  • Great analysis, thanks.

  • Hello Judit,Maxime and Hikaru better forget your play with 5...d6? ( correct is for example 5...c6! ) or your play with 7...e5? ( correct is for example 7...Lf5 ) . After this two blunders it would have been better to give up the game. You need not Stockfish or Rybka , what you need is the CODE of chess and you will know what beauty in chess realy is. Have a look at my last three worldrecords and you will perhaps understand . You can find them here on youtube.com under the word :NEWEKLOWSKY

  • Can someone explain to me why the world championship was between Topalov and Anand even though Karlsen is supposed to be better ranked? Thanks.

  • @tantzer The World Champion is the person who performs to a certain high standard in a specific set of tournaments, manages to survive the candidates tournament which determines who gets to challenge the current WC, and wins. This person then becomes the WC. The WC has to periodically defend his title -- as Anand did against Topalov. This system has nothing to do with world ranking at all, which is based on a mathematical method of calculating performance.

  • @xiangyik Many thanks, that makes sense. Do you happen to know how well Karlsen has done in WC games?

  • OMG ... I am crying ... He makes it all look so easy!!

  • How come I never hear about these world vs games till it's too late? That game was blown as soon as black brought out the queen's knight.

  • The only thing that this game serves is to boost Carlsen's ego. These kind of games will never be won because there is no real plan being played. I much rather see Carlsen play a really strong computer so that he has to struggle.

  • why is magnus carlsen so much more special then other grandchessmaster, does he like have a lot better rating
