Sometimes birth control fails, even if it is conscientiously used. Sometimes rape or incest causes pregnancy. Sometimes even by a step father or guardian - making parental consent laws wrong. Ultimately it's no one's business except the pregnant woman herself. She's the one who has the decision. She's the one who has to live with it. Religious morality has no place in public policy. Given that Roe v. Wade's days are probably numbered RHAPP is a prudent step that sends a real message.

Parental notification laws, various conditional abortion bans, restrictions on abortion are all incremental attempts to ban the procedure by degrees. Ultimately the choice of whether to continue a pregnancy or not is between a woman (or girl) and her doctor. No one - not even a parent - should have veto power. It's not a question of religion or morality. It's a question of fundamental rights of a woman over her own body.

Hey aplatinumangel: ridiculing of the video simply betrays your ignorance of the issues.. The Bush's Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act was upheld by the Supreme Court in a 5-4 split decision on 4/18/07. Google "Gonzales v. Carhart". If Roe is struck down (with this court a reasonable possibility), each state must pass its own laws allowing or forbidding abortion rights. The NY Reproductive Health Act is a proactive act to ensure NY women's abortion rights and to send a clear message.

Hey Josh, I can be called many things, but ignorant about RHAPP is not one of them. You're obviously a Spitzer fab since that was his ridiculous rationalization. RHAPP does not codify Roe v. Wade as suggested. It makes abortion UNSAFE - there is NOTHING safe about having someone that did not graduate medical school perform surgery outside of a hospital. The bill writers know that - that's why they ALSO decided it will no longer be a crime if a woman is killed.

RHAPP does not protect the right of a woman to make an informed decision with her doctor (what doctor??) What woman for that matter? RHAPP makes it legal for a 12 year old girl to have an abortion performed on her at the direction of AN ABORTION PROVIDER, that is not her (or anyone's) doctor - and her parents will never know about it. If this is what you want for YOUR kids Josh that's one thing, this is sickness to unleash on New York's children - they deserve better than this.

RHAPP states that Abortion and Contraception will be a FUNDAMENTAL right for females (not women, females). That destroys the possibility of passing a law to guarantee PARENTAL RIGHTS in raising minor children. But Josh, I'm sure you're going to tell us that Planned Parenthood can do a better job of raising children than their parents can. It's not like Planned Parenthood KILLS kids as a business... oh, wait a minute, YES they do!
